“My kids have been coming to camp for ten years. They’ve always had a great time. Thanks to the staff there for all you do!”

General Information Dear Friends: Some of my fondest memories as a child are of attending United Methodist summer camps. Camp played an important role in in my own spiritual development and love of nature. While many things have changed since then, one thing has remained very much the same: United Methodist Summer Camp Programs and Retreat Ministries in Michigan remain as one of the most effective ways of introducing a child to a life of faith, and for helping children and adults grow in discipleship. Surrounded by fun and games, and the beauty of God’s creation, our summer camp programs provide a safe place for young people to be themselves, to be heard, and to freely explore the questions they have about their faith. Parents are always amazed by how much their children grow in faith and character in just one week at summer camp. This year, consider creating fond memories for you and your child by registering for a camp program. With you in the work of Jesus Christ,

Deborah Lieder Kiesey Bishop, Michigan Area

61

Summer is right around the corner! How will your child remember 2014? Will they think back on the new friends they met? Will they recall learning a new skill like canoeing, rope climbing or camping? Maybe this will be the year they remember developing a new love of nature and a new relationship with God. All of these special memories are possible for your child when they attend a United Methodist Camp in Michigan. This year we are pleased to offer the combined camps and outdoor retreat ministries of the Detroit and West Michigan Annual Conferences in one catalog. These 9 camps offer facilities and activities for every age group and interest, from elementary to adult. While each camp and retreat offers a unique experience, our programs share common values; to provide a fun, safe environment to experience nature and God. Camp does change lives and that is why our campers ask to come back year after year. How will you remember the summer of 2014? Find out by registering today!

Bay Shore Camp

Camp Michigamme

It’s been more than a century since a group of local families pooled their resources to secure a site for summer camp meetings on the shore of Saginaw Bay - the beginning of Bay Shore Camp. First order of business? Tear down the grandstand and repurpose the lumber to build a Tabernacle, where preaching and praising would make the rafters sing. The Tabernacle built so many years ago, still stands in the middle of the grounds as a strong symbol of camp’s faith. It is now surrounded by a variety of facilities that enable Bay Shore Camp & Family Ministries to operate year-round. There is still a camp meeting every summer as well as 16 youth camping sessions, retreats, conferences and a four-day Gospel music convention in August.

Located in the Upper Peninsula, the mission of Camp Michigamme is to utilize their beautiful natural setting and the spiritual resources available to help persons of all ages come into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ to the glory of God. We invite you to be a part of their 90th season of worship, play, music, Bible study and fellowship. When you become a camper at Camp Michigamme you become part of a legacy that began back in 1922 when a group Methodist leaders set this place aside for God’s holy work. Friendships are made here that can last a lifetime. Faith is shared in powerful and life changing ways. This is not just a good place to be; it is a GREAT place to be and we hope to see you this summer. For more information

Brrr…come with us as we travel to the coldest reaches of the north on our Polar Expedition. We’ll encounter penguins, polar bears, and some other interesting characters as we learn how Jesus’s love is COOL!

Christ’s love transforms lives – from fishermen into disciples, illness to health, lost to found, guilty to forgiven. This camp combines Biblical teachings, sports, crafts, drama, amazing worship, and fun – to transform lives.
