Lets see what some students have to say regarding the haze. Joon Yong The haze should stay in Singapore Longer. I don’t want to wake up early and go to school. Having lessons at 8am is tiring. I just want to rest at home for longer holidays so I won’t have to study. Daren Koh The haze has really been troublesome to my asthma. Having asthma and the haze are not two things that can go well together. I just hope it stops soon so I don’t have to spend money on masks and maybe doctor. Also, it’s really trouble some to travel around with the haze. Liu Sijie The haze should just leave us alone. It’s irritating enough that Singapore is already so hot, the haze just makes us hotter. They should just try to stop the haze as soon as possible before it gets worse. I don’t want to suffer from this heat anymore.

Ms Yogurt & Pizza This week we interviewed one of our many food stores in Makan Place. Ms Yogurt & Pizza this shop is known for its delectable pizzas and yogurts along with its innovatiive ideas in marketing itself. So in the interview we find out more about how the marketing methods used by Ms Yogurt & Pizza. What time of day are you most busiest?

What types of marketing strategies do you employ?

In the afternoon, during lunch hour probably around 12-2:30

We have the cards that we give out which enable you to get a free pair of glasses after 15 cups of yogurts. Also pizza goes for 1 for 2.50 but if you buy 2 the price is 3.80. We also used to tap into social media but however we stopped that.

Which gender is more likely to patronise your store? Hmmm, mostly i think it’s female, cause of our shop design is mostly pink. Which is more on the feminine side. On our loyalty card rewards are also named “Miss Glasses”. Therefore we are more likely to attract females.

What difficuties do you face in everyday operations? It’s usually just the low shoppers traffic during the holidays and off-peak hours during school days.

How do you think these marketing strategies help you? I think the loyalty cards help encourage return visits.

Why did you stop using social media?? Oh, cause it takes alot of effort to maintain, i also do not make regular changes to my food thus, it will be difficult to update my pages everyday.

Hello, It’s me, your despicably handsome villainous hero, Gru. Last week, my minions gave me some intellectually lacking questions but as your hero, I’m obliged to answer them against my will..

ASK

GRU

Q: Dear Gru, I can never get good results! Could you please give me some advice? Q: Dear Gru, I’m really fat and I envy skinny girls but I can’t motivate myself to exercise! Please help!

G: Of course! Here is my personal secret to success..

G: To motivate yourself, read fitness magazines and imagine

2. Find a calm and relaxed place to study. Choose a place in which you feel comfortable in, is spacious and is free from distractions. Find a group of friends who are motivated to study and arrange study sessions. Never call out Dave he loves to distract!

yourself having a much slimmer and fitter body. Developing the right attitude is important as being fit requires making changes to your entire lifestyle. It is important to set a goal and schedule to exercise and follow it. Cardio exercises such as Walking, Jogging, Cycling. Even climbing a flight of stairs will help! Why not join the minions in the 69th annual Minionathon! Lastly, it is important to eat clean! Avoid fast food and look for healthier alternatives!

Here are 5 steps to guide you along! 1. Schedule your time. Set reasonable timings that you can follow easily. Include time for exercise, relaxation, leisure, family, friends or minions... If you plan ahead, you’re likely to have time for everything! (Including having fun!)

3. Take regular breaks! After every 40 minutes of hard work, take a 5 to 15 minutes break! Have a walk, stretch, grab a snack or drink, or simply stare out of the window for a very brief daydream. 4. Eat well. A balanced diet is extremely important! Vitamins and minerals will keep your mind and body in optimum shape. In order to stay awake and alert, take fruits and vegetables! 5. Set your goals. Write down what you want to aim to achieve each day and do daily.. Like stealing THE MOON.

Q: Dear Gru, I feel that there’s not enough time each day to complete daily work. It’s making me really stressed out, help!

Q: Dear Gru, I love to eat, but I don’t want to get fat! Any suggestions on yummy yet healthy food?

G: Planning each day can help you accomplish more. Keep a to-do list, putting important tasks at the

G: Here are some healthier alternatives for you!

top. That’s how i managed to commit so many crimes around the world! Connect with others! Spend time with positive people who enhance your life.... Like my minions! Dave, Billy, Larry, Tim, Bob, Mark, Phil, Stuart, Kevin and Jerry! Set aside time to do something you enjoy - Cycling, Jogging, Reading, World Dominating~ Most importantly… GET ENOUGH SLEEP PLEASE! 

Instead of soft drinks of caffeinated drinks, try making smoothies. Try making a glass of Banana smoothie! But don’t mention bananas in front of the minions please. They go crazy if you do that. Chips! Avoid them at all cost! Select healthier alternatives like carrot or cucumber sticks! Carrots helps in maintaining healthier skin like mine while cucumbers aids in weight loss and digestion If you’re craving for something sweet, take fruits instead! Orrr you can try some of my X-69 Serum. I’ve been finding testers for those.

What’s On Your Mind ?!? In Singapore, the amount of trends that people set are sky high. In spite of this, one might still ask: “What’s trending in Singapore? Why should I follow the trend? Will following this trend do me any good?”

Trends In Singapore s d o o G d e d n a r B

1

Carrying branded goods? Yes? No? I don’t know? Most people might think they’re not carrying branded goods, but in actual fact, THEY ARE! Think I’m wrong? Look in your wardrobe or your shoe rack, you’ll be surprise at the number or branded goods you actually have in there. There really is nothing wrong in wearing/carrying branded goods, be it for a party, a night out, or even just a simple Why Branded Goods?

Branded Goods are NOT just for the rich. It gives you a better image. Not just at work, but in school as well. General perception of seeing others wear branded goods will be that person has good sense of fashion or the person presents himself properly, and puts in the effort to dress up.

Will It Benefit You? The answer to this question really depends on you. If you need it, buy it without regrets. If it’s just a desire, or you just want to flaunt it off, you should really consider it carefully as it costs a bomb to actually purchase this products. One might just regret after purchasing it!

2

Prices

Singapore is one of the world’s most money orientated country. As a Singaporean, what we care about most is money. Money makes the world go round. Everyday, we just pull our long grouchy faces and ponder over where our money has gone, or which galaxy we threw our money into. Paying taxes? Spending to pamper ourselves, or just spending on food. It has been integrated into our lives that we need to save as much as we can, and buying stuff 1 Save 22 App when there is discount is Smartphone App which helps you compare prices from different shops without a doubt, the best 2 Try Samples/Freebies thing in the world.

Tips to save money!

Have you been saving recently? Look around you. What have you bought recently? A bag? A t-shirt? Or maybe a bottle of perfume? How much have you spent? Have you been saving up? I bet you haven’ t. Look at them. Most of the things that you see are bought on impulse and you don’t really need them. Now I know how you feel. You must be feeling annoyed by what you have done and you want to throw all of those away.

Try Product to see whether it’s the one you want to buy Be a smart and informed customer

3 Say NO to Taxis Taxi’s cost you a bomb. Take the convenient public transport instead 4

Buy branded goods online instead Buying branded goods online only cause fraction of their usual price. Check vintage/thrift stores for pre-owned items

5

Try social groups like GROUPON Daily deal website that helps you find new places to eat or shop. Highly likely to discover new things.

If you haven’t already realized, the last important trend that we are most aware of is health. We have all at least once thought of exercising or eat healthy! It’s either one of the above. Why would you tell yourself all these? Is it from influences from fit looking male in magazines or anorexic female models? Maybe it could be from adverts from the television to remind you to eat healthy? Any case, being healthy and eating healthy has become part of our daily lives

Q: Which country did you visit and what made you sign up?

Q: What was the most memorable experience from the trip?

-A: Vietnam, Hanoi! I love travelling and wanted exposure to hospitality in different countries. Travelling with friends of similar interests sounded like a good idea!

-A: I took an overnight train to Lao Cai, where there were 2 sets of double decker beds in each cabin. It was really cosy! However, there was a rat found in the neighbouring room, ew! I also enjoyed the back-of-house tour to Melia, a 5 star hotel – the front of house looked so different compared to the back of house.

Q: Did you face any difficulties during the trip? -A: Since we were foreigners, some shopkeepers or cab drivers will overcharge. Once, the cab driver wanted to charge us 5 times of what was stated on the meter. Fortunately, a bellboy came to help us! Language was a barrier too!

Q: Would you recommend study trips to your friends? - A: Yes, the trip was really an eye-opener and it helped me to visualise things better! An out of classroom learning experience was something different
