TRANSPORT IN MELBOURNE Melbourne’s grid layout makes it an easy city to navigate, with most attractions within walking distance. Transport options include train, tram, bus or bike.

Tickets and Fares myki is an easy to use, reusable travel card that is your ticket to travel on Melbourne’s public transport network, and some regional train and bus services across Victoria. To get started, either purchase a myki Visitor Value Pack or a myki card. myki Visitor Value Pack Includes a ready-to-use myki card with enough myki money for one day’s travel in Zones 1+2 and discount offers to make your trips around Melbourne easy and enjoyable. Top up your myki with enough myki money for any further travel. myki Visitor Value Pack can be purchased from: PTV Hubs, Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square, SkyBus terminals at Melbourne Airport and Southern Cross Station, and selected hotels and accommodation providers. myki card Choose either a myki money or myki pass product that suits how often you plan to use public transport, and then top up with funds as required. myki cards can be purchased from: PTV Hubs, over 800 myki retail outlets including all 7-Eleven stores, train station ticket offices, myki machines at train stations, and premium tram and bus stops (full fare card sales only), and onboard the bus ($20 max). Types of Transport Around Melbourne Free Tram Travel in the CBD and Docklands There is a Free Tram Zone in Melbourne’s CBD and Docklands. Travel on trams within this zone is free and you do not need to use a myki card. However, if your journey starts or finishes outside the boundaries of the Free Tram Zone, you must touch on your myki at the reader to make sure you have a valid ticket. You can also ride the iconic W-class free City Circle Tram (number 35) that will take you on a historic tour of Melbourne’s CBD, complete with automated commentary. Trams Explore the city and inner Melbourne by tram. All tram stops display maps, timetables and route numbers that correspond to the number on the front of the tram. If you are travelling only within the Free Tram Zone on a tram, you do not need to use a myki card. If you are travelling beyond the Free Tram Zone, don’t forget to touch on and touch off at the start and end of your journey with your myki card. Trains and Buses Melbourne’s train and bus networks will allow you to explore the outer suburbs of Melbourne, accessing schools, universities, hospitals and shopping centres. Should you wish to travel further out within Victoria, use the V/Line service to visit regional towns and significant attractions. Don’t forget to touch on and touch off at the start and end of your journey with your myki card. SkyBus SkyBus is a cost effective and easy to use bus service that runs express between Melbourne Airport and Melbourne’s city centre, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Melbourne Bike Share Melbourne Bike Share provides an affordable transport option for travel around Melbourne. There are 51 bike share locations across the city and bikes can be rented for as little as $2.90. It’s compulsory for all bike riders to wear protective helmets and these can be purchased from 7-Eleven stores. melbournebikeshare.com.au

EastLink Tollway EastLink is a 39 kilometre automated tollway that connects the Eastern, Monash, Frankston and Peninsula Link freeways. There are no cash tollbooths on CityLink or EastLink so to pay the tolls you must either open an account before you travel or buy a pass.
