L.L.Bean Waxed Canvas Maine Hunting Shoe Since opening up shop in 1920, Eddie Bauer has made some of the best outdoor gear around, and the new Eddie Bauer Heritage Collection ($25-$700) celebrates that, uh, heritage with modern interpretations of classic pieces from the company’s Sportsman, Upland Field, Fly Fishing, and Aviation lines. Each article blends old-school styling and quality with modern fabrics and construction techniques to create outstanding re-imaginations of outdoorsman essentials.

ColdAvenger If you’re planning on training up for Winter X Games 15, do yourself a favor and protect your face and respiratory tract with the ColdAvenger ($50-$60). This advanced cold weather mask employs a patent-pending ventilation design to mix inhaled cold air with exhaled warm air, keeping the temperature inside the mask up to 40º to 60ºF warmer than the outdoors, while still allowing for easy breathing during exertion and keeping your face dry. Sure, you’ll look a little like a Star Wars extra while wearing it, but that’s a small price to pay for warmth.

Leather Vessels With a legacy dating back to ancient times, Leather Vessels ($22-$200) are painstakingly-handcrafted cups, tankards, flasks, and bottles, each made with highest-possible level of detail and accuracy. A few more contemporary designs are available now, and will soon be joined by strict medieval reproductions of reallife vessels, some of which were studied by the creators at the Museum of London. So pick one up, fill it with some Mead, and toast to a time of kings, queens, knights, and shockingly bad hygiene.

Nike N98 Jackets Finding a track jacket that looks as good on the street as it does in the gym is a tough feat, but Nike’s made it easier with its new line of N98 Jackets ($75 and up). Consisting of the National N98 Track Jacket, Laminated N98 Track Jacket, and NSW Collection N98 Track Jacket, this new collection updates some of Nike’s classic designs with modern details like dri-fit technology, waterproof and windproof breathable Gore-Tex composite materials, laser-bonded seams, reflective piping, flat-knit ribbing, double-welded zippers, athletic fitting, and double-knitting for maximum comfor t.

Nau V i ce B laz er As the weather warms and we transition from thick coats to slimmer jackets (okay, maybe not yet, but soon), the Nau Vice Blazer ($225) is there to keep you looking stylish through the spring. Made from wind-resistant, recycled poly/organic cotton fabric treated with a DWR finish to provide water repellency, the Vice offers a vaguely military-chic look, with shaped cuffs, button-close lower front and left chest pockets, a rear right-side zippered pocket, and a tall collar that functions equally well down or popped.

Fossil Com pa s s Watch Mixing hints of Chuck Taylors with miliSimple and utilitarian, the Fossil Compass Watch ($75) forgoes complicated chronographs and other functions to offer a rugged timepiece featuring a straightforward olive green dial with 24-hour markings, an olive green canvas strap, water resistance up to 5 ATM, and, of course, a compass stitched directly into the band.

Cole Haan Air Ashby Oxford Plain, simple, and yet surprisingly dignified, the Cole Haan Air Ashby Oxford ($160) is a solid all-day dress shoe option, transitioning well from khakis or chinos to nicely tailored denim. It features a genuine crepe sole for natural cushioning, a plaintoe design, a hand-burnished leather upper, leather and fabric lining, and concealed Nike Air cushioning for maximum comfort.

MY GOODNESS TEN FACTS ABOUT ST. PATRICK’S DAY’S MOST POPUL AR DRINK This March 17th, millions of pints of Guinness will be lifted to millions of lips in tribute to St. Patrick. How much do you really know about the most popul ar beer from the Emerald Isle? You know that it’s dark, it’s delicious, and most importantly: it’s Irish. But what else? This St. Patrick’s Day, enchant the bar with some fascinating facts that are so entertaining, they can only come from the l and with the gift of the Bl arney.

There really was a Guinness.

Unlike so many American beers (sorry, there is no Meister Budweiser, Mr. Pabst, or Sir Red Dog), Guinness is named for an actual man. Arthur Guinness was born in Celdridge County in Kildare, Ireland in 1725.

Arthur signed a really long lease.

In 1759, there were already sixty breweries in Dublin, but Arthur Guinness must have known the run-down one he leased would lead to prosperity. He signed a lease for 9,000 years. Not only that, but he got quite a bargain: about $65 a year.

Guinness wasn’t always Guinness.

Though the beer you’re hoisting now carries the name of Mr. Guinness, the early brew that most closely resembled today’s dark stout was called West India Porter.

Waterloo could have been won.

What does Waterloo have to do with stout? According to an old Guinness advertisement featuring a testimony by one of Wellington’s injured soldiers, Guinness helped speed his recovery. If only all of the soldiers had access to Guinness, history might have been altered.

Dark beer is for mourning.

The popular Black Velvet cocktail, made with Guinness and champagne, was invented by a barkeeper in 1861. After the death of Prince Albert Victor, he proclaimed that even the champagne should be in mourning, and added Guinness to the patron’s glasses.

EARLY drinkers were tougher.

At least the makers of Guinness must think so. Modern versions of Guinness Draught and Guinness Extra Stout are brewed weaker than they were in the 1800s.

You can grab a Guinness in China.

In 1997, the first Irish pub was opened in China. O’Malley’s in Shanghai naturally serves Guinness on tap.

It’s not just for St. Patrick’s Day.

The average consumption of Guinness is approximately 10 million pints a day, worldwide.

That harp is real.

The harp logo featured on each bottle is actually the harp of Brian Boru, an Irish king from the 11th century. The actual harp itself is on display at Trinity College in Dublin.

Guinness is not vegetarian.

Several beers use a process involving isinglass (a fish product) to help filter the brew. Guinness is one of them, making the beer for carnivores only. Doesn’t knowing a little more about the history of Guinness make it taste just a wee bit better? This year, while you’re hoisting one for St. Patrick, be sure and have at least one more for the man who made your refreshment possible. Drink a toast to Arthur Guinness.

BenQ Joybee G P 1 M i n i P rojec tor Carry a cinema in the palm of your hand with the BenQ Joybee GP1 Mini Projector ($500). Powered by a DLP display chip and BenQ’s 3LED backlighting technology, the Joybee GP1 offers a projected image up to 80 inches in size, with 858x600 resolution and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. LG M INI While it’s more of a feature-phone than tr uly “smar t,” the LG Mini ($TBA) may be enough to satisfy those with less ambitious mobile cravings. Centered around a 3.2inch, 16:9 touchscreen, the Mini of fers 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi, A -GPS, a built-in FM radio, microSD s torage with music and video playback, a 5 megapixel camera with advanced face detection, and several social-focused applications like Social Networ k Connect, a Social Networ k Feed, and a Social Address Book .

Canon E O S R eb el T 2 i And so the DSLR wars continue. The Canon EOS Rebel T2i ($900) is the latest salvo from Canon, offering a number of improvements over the T1i it replaces. Highlights include 3.7fps shooting, ISO up to 6400, an 18-megapixel CMOS sensor, 1080p video at both 30 and 24 fps with full manual exposure control, an iFCL 63-zone dual-layer metering system, a 3-inch LCD, support for SDXC memory cards, and a 9-point AF system. If you’re already a Canon shooter, or simply want to save some money, the T2i also comes in a body-only package for $800, giving you $100 to put towards a better lens than the middling 18-55 kit glass — in fact, it’ll pretty much cover Canon’s base 50mm f/1.8 prime.

New features include updated “here and now” pricing, an electronic game pod that keeps track of players’ money — via electronic banking cards — and also provides sound effects and song clips that correspond with events in the game.

Dual commentary tracks, and a second disc with a handful of documentaries and other special features round out the set.

ADVISE neither is running 20 miles in one day. Learn the facts about health by figuring out your body type first, then researching the best and safest way to become healthy for that type. Sometimes it’s best to use good judgment in your endeavors. If you’re feeling queasy from eating a certain food, then don’t eat it or try it in smaller amounts. If you’re feeling extremely worn out after a workout, then take a break or try an easier approach. 4. Getting healthy should not be unenjoyable. Dieting and exercising can come with a negative image of toiling hard at the gym with sweat pouring mercilessly down your face. That’s just a stereotype, of course. With a positive attitude, getting healthy can be a lot of fun. Instead of going out to the same restaurant for lunch, cook a wholesome, home-cooked meal for you and your friends. Walk with your dog or a companion through a nice setting that you enjoy like at a park or on a beach. With a companion at the gym, try some new, interesting exercise steps using medicine balls. Soon enough, incorporating these fun, healthy habits into your daily schedule becomes easier and your plan will experience greater results. 5. Most importantly, never go off your diet by going on a few splurges! Going out for a quick fast food run, devouring an ice cream sundae,

n endless stream of diet and exercise plans exists for significantly overweight people and their extremely healthy counterparts to take control of their health. These plans vary in popularity from recent diet fads like The Fat-Free Diet, which reduces fat so that you become less fat, to the relatively obscure ones like Cortislim, which reduces weight by reducing the stress hormone cortisol.

overweight. Eat the correct amount of carbs, proteins, and fats according to basic nutritional guidelines and the needs of your body type. Adding nutritional supplements helps, but they should not be used as a substitute for food.

Whichever diet plan you choose from the hundreds, the bottom line is that it needs to work. The best diet and exercise plan works by personalizing it to your body’s needs and your daily schedule. The tips below will help you personalize one so that you reap the full health benefits for your body. So in the most effective, most painless, and (hopefully) most fun way possible, you will finally get the life that you want.

2. Getting healthy should not be too easy. Many dieters are guilty of taking the elementary route to health. They assume that if they’re moving every day, like walking to the fridge or through the park, then they’re exercising every day. On the contrary, your body functions on a complete level in one day, which involves a wide range of your muscles. So including anaerobic exercises into your routine provides a better benefit to your body on a whole.

1. Your diet and exercise plan should not be too difficult. Overworking your body should be the biggest concern of your plan because it leads to consequences that can topple those of being

As for exercising, read guides from experts before plunging into a grueling, daily weight training regimen at the gym. Otherwise, you’ll develop more troubles beyond extreme soreness a few hours later.

3. Learn the facts about health and don’t set unrealistic goals. Losing a large amount of weight in one week is neither practical nor healthy and

or slacking off for a few days enacts disastrous effects on your health. Then you’ll run in circles trying to lose the weight that you gained from the splurges on top of the weight that you’ve had at the start. This new behavior of “taking breaks” in between work can quickly build into bad habits and some may be hard to break. To prevent yourself from splurging, think of all the work and sweat that you had undergone for days, weeks, or months. Then think of that work becoming undone in days just so you could relax or “feel good” for a moment. For countless dieters, including those at a stable weight, following a diet and exercise plan is not easy. It involves discipline, patience, and motivation to do it and keep it up in the future. Although getting healthy the right way takes a lot of hard work, it does not have to be a chore. The next time you get up in the morning, take the steps above to your best abilities so that you reap and sow your health with plentiful results.

Images of Nikki Jane are courtesy of VIVID Nikki Jayne is a statuesque 22year-old blonde from the north of England who has had a life-long interest in the performing arts. She became a Vivid Girl in 2008.

Born in Manchester, England, Nikki attended high school and college in the historic town of Wigan, and there she formed a bubbly, outgoing personality that led her to pursue studies in the perform-

ing arts. While holding down her first job out of school in advertising sales for a local newspaper, the 5’10” blueeyed beauty also competed in kickboxing matches and was a part time model. Nikki was modeling evening gowns in the UK when she was discovered by an agent and was introduced to Vivid Entertainment executives. “The first adult movie I ever saw was Vivid’s ‘Last Girl Standing’ and I was very impressed by the actresses,” says Nikki. “I realize what a

lucky break it is for me to become a Vivid Girl.” In addition to her acting career, Nikki’s passions include traveling and spiritual pursuits such as astrology, numerology and tarot card reading – which, she says, has confirmed that she has lots of sexual and erotic energy. She has recently visited Brazil, Thailand, Africa and India and looks forward to seeing more of the U.S. “I come from a very open-minded family and they’ve always been supportive of my decisions,” Nikki says. “My

aunt was a stripper and she probably inspired me because I always wanted to do something where I showed off my body. I’m probably a classic Gemini with both naughty and nice sides.” She is attracted to men who have “some sparkle and who are capable of lighting up a room when they walk in.” She’s taller than many of the men she dates, but she says that “really doesn’t matter as we’re both the same height when we’re in bed.”

Making money online is possible if you have enough patience, time and determination.

t’s not that unusual for an Air Force veteran to retire with a vision of what he wants to do with the rest of his life. But any vet that follows through on it like this needs another medal. Richard knew he wanted this bike. No one made it, but “he could just see it.” He made several drawings, but most importantly, it was the vision. His daily ride is an ‘07 Harley Softail Custom, but he wanted something that had that clean bobber look, yet updated. Bobbers are striped-down, without bags, without windshields, without even turn signals. The rake and angles sets them apart, a sort of sport bike but with a raw attitude. He calls it Bobster because it’s a Sportster that’s in a bobber style. Rich found on the Internet, with only 5 miles on its odometer, an ‘03 Harley 883 Sportster, and he first removed and sold everything the bike didn’t have to have to motivate him along the road. Then he set about the modifications, doing as much of it as he could all by himself in his garage. He cut the stock frame in half and (using a jig) welded up a hard-tail section, removing the shocks. It was originally not a soft-tail, but it had hidden shocks to look like a rigid. Now it is a rigid. The welding lid came down again since he had to make the frame wider to use this beefy 200 mm tire (Metzeler 200/50-18) on the back. That also meant he switched to a belt from its chain drive in order to run the wider tire - you can’t exactly bend a wide drive belt out to the new width. He used a DNA springer front end and then fabricated all of the foot-controls, including a footclutch for his left foot. It’s now shifted by hand. He did this so he could run a suicide-shift, of course. Why? “Because it’s cool. Not a lot of people are riding rigids with hand-shifts.” No, and there could be a reason, Rich! But think about it, isn’t this pure bobber? You wouldn’t feel right installing an iPod in a Hummer H1 and Rich wanted a suicide-shift with his Bobster. Not so crazy after all.

Rich also made his own exhaust system and handlebars. I wonder if they teach you this kind of world-class metal-shaping in KC-135 Crew Chief school. He took the perfectly good, if not perfectly great, Harley motor and it’s a 1250 motor, thanks to Axtell jugs and associated hardware, all rebuilt by Rich himself, including re-jetting the carburetor. What was the hardest part? “Waiting for parts!” he said. Actually, he can be a bit too modest. Things like those beautiful Frenched headlights don’t come in the mail. He spent hours grinding and bending, polishing and welding. To set the angle and rake just right, he set it up two inches under-stock. That gorgeous leather seat (on the bike) was custom-made by Xian Leather in Long Island . Xian wishes he’d been asked to fit Mary’s corset instead. Rich is looking not so crazy, suicide shift or not. At its first show, just last month, it took Second in Class at the World of Wheels. Better yet, Rich gets to ride it! Nearly-new, beefy Harley motor, smooth ride, aluminum frame, lowslung, classy old school style with just enough chrome, not crazy indeed. As they sing in the Air Force, “Off with one hell of a roar!”

ask her... If you’re in a sexless marriage for the sake of the children, should you pursue an affair? This is a really hard one. A sexless, passionless marriage can be incredibly lonely, frustrating, and hurtful. But as painful as it is, lack of sex is almost always a symptom of underlying trouble, rather than the cause of your marital strife. See, the frequency a couple has sex is often a relationship barometer. No sex usually means that something is wrong… the problem is that once it goes on long enough, the lack of intimacy can also become a problem in itself. The bottom line: If you care about fixing or saving your marriage, an affair is not the answer. If you think things are bad now, wait until there’s no trust left at all. Your kids will pick up on that anger and hostility, if they haven’t already. How can I last longer in bed? Long answer: Stop worrying about it. Just as with penis length, this is one of those grossly overrated sexual prowess and success markers. A survey of sex therapists found that the “ideal” time for penetration is between 3 and 13 minutes. I think they’re right, although I’ll go one step further and say that I don’t care at all how long you last during penetration, as long as you’ve spent ample time frolicking and laughing and passionately kissing and rolling around with me before it happens. Sex is not defined by how long the penis can go in and out and in and out and in and out of the vagina. That’s boring. Sex is about (say it with me): exploration, finding what makes each other happy, giving and receiving pleasure, enjoying

each other. With or without penetration.

How can I escape the friend zone? The more condensed answer is that it’s a process. If you’re already in it, you need to stop spending time with the woman. Get a life of your own, find things that interest you, work on your wardrobe and body, and join new organizations and clubs. You’ll become a more interesting person, you’ll stop playing no-sex-attached-boyfriend stand-in, and you’ll meet new people—women included. All of this will make you more desirable—she’ll begin to see your potential as more than just “friend” material. To avoid falling into the friend zone from the beginning, you need to be up front about your feelings with the women you like. If you’re attracted to someone or want to date her, ask her out. She’ll know from the get-go that you’re interested in more than just her mind. And here’s the catch: Don’t go on dates with her that aren’t specifically labeled dates. The women I’m pursuing often tell me I’m too nice. How can I develop more of an edge? A: Stop playing the friend. Women have enough of those to lean on, and they (probably) don’t sleep with any of them. I’m not saying you should be a jerk, but if you limit your availability - and show a woman you have a life - it certainly won’t hurt. That means not dropping everything each time she asks for your help or company. Make your intentions known from the beginning. Tell her you think she’s a great woman (even a beautiful one)

and that you’d like to take her out on a date. If she’s not interested, that’s okay - you have other things going on. Ultimately, sexy is a man who’s direct, confident, and independent. Master those qualities and your kindness will be an extra perk, not what defines you. Circumcised or uncircumcised, and why (assuming they’re both equal in size)? I personally couldn’t care less. It makes absolutely no difference to me, as long as the man in question is an attentive, affectionate, generous, exciting, passionate lover. Some American women think uncut penises look strange, because the majority of American men are circumcised and they’re just not used to the aesthetic. And I’ve heard a few of my girlfriends complain that it’s more difficult to perform oral sex or manual sex on an uncircumcised man, because the penis is more sensitive. But I’m pretty judgmental of women who let these small differences get in the way of a potentially great relationship... all women are different and require different touches and pressures and speeds to feel pleasure, so why should we expect all men to be the same or to enjoy the same things? Seems lazy and immature to me. Bottom line: You should NOT worry about whether the woman you’re with prefers cut or uncut. If you’re devoted to exploring her body and mind, and focus on bringing her pleasure, she should feel lucky to have you, foreskin or otherwise!

2010 Volkswagen New Beetle Convertible

Bentleys of the Future Royal College of Art

No matter the time of year, nor the weather outside, the New Beetle convertible stays stylish while keeping the inside comfortable and dry with a three-layer cloth top that features a heated glass rear window. When placed in the up (closed) position, the top helps keep road noise down to a minimum in the cabin. The top is power-assisted for quick and easy lowering, and tucks away directly behind the rear seat for a vintage look. The soft-top also includes a semiautomatic power roof and a wind blocker. As an added convenience in the convertible, a driver-accessible, extra window switch makes lowering and raising all four side windows simultaneously a simple task. The seating positions in both the sedan and convertible models are covered in V-Tex, with a choice of black, cream or white colors to best complement the New Beetle’s exterior and the personality of its owner (select color combinations unavailable). Heated front seats are standard on all models, along with a leather parking brake handle and shift knob, a telescoping, three-spoke padded steering wheel, the Easy Entry System with the front seats for improved rear passenger entry, and one-touch up and down automatic windows, with pinch protection, for both the driver and passenger sides.

Royal College of Art students create exciting new concepts for iconic British manufacturer with state-of-the-art software (Crewe, England. 1 February, 2010) Some of the world’s best young designers from London’s Royal College of Art (RCA) have created a series of remarkable ‘Bentleys of the Future’ designs in a unique partnership with the famous British company. Eighteen Vehicle Design Course Masters students have spent the last few months studying the work of Bentley’s leading designers, including Head of Exterior Design Raul Pires who played a key role designing the company’s new Mulsanne flagship. Drawing on Bentley’s proud design heritage. they have sought to develop a range of striking and futuristic car designs. Now four of the RCA students have been shortlisted to refine their designs with Pires and his colleagues with a winner and runner-up both being invited to join the Crewe-based company for a six month secondment in the Bentley design studio. Professor Dale Harrow, Head of Vehicle Design at the RCA explained: “Working with Bentley has inspired these young designers to create a coupe for the 21st Century that embraces the latest aerodynamics technology. The Vehicle Design Course attracts postgraduate students from across the world and it has been fascinating to see them make a connection with a British marque that has such a distinguished heritage.”

Also at the tail, the refining engineers have invented something extraordinary in order to perfect the visual appearance of the Aston Martin. 911 GT3 R Hybrid Celebrates World DebuT

Stuttgart. Exactly 110 years after Ferdinand Porsche developed the world’s first car with hybrid drive, the Lohner Porsche Semper Vivus, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is once again taking up this visionary drive concept in production-based GT racing: During the Geneva Motor Show, a Porsche 911 GT3 R with innovative hybrid drive is making its debut, opening up a new chapter in the history of Porsche with more than 20,000 wins in 45 years scored by the extremely successful Porsche 911 in racing trim. The innovative hybrid technology featured in the car has been developed especially for racing, standing out significantly in its configuration and components from conventional hybrid systems. In this case, electrical front axle drive with two electric motors developing 60 kW each supplements the 480-bhp four-litre flat-six at the rear of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid. A further significant point is that instead of the usual batteries in a hybrid road car, an electrical flywheel power generator fitted in the interior next to the driver delivers energy to the electric motors. The flywheel generator itself is an electric motor with its rotor spinning at speeds of up to 40,000 rpm, storing energy mechanically as rotation energy. The flywheel generator is charged whenever the driver applies the brakes, with the two electric motors reversing their function on the front axle and acting themselves as generators. Then, whenever necessary, that is when accelerating out of a bend or when overtaking, the driver is able to call up extra energy from the charged flywheel generator, the flywheel being slowed down electromagnetically in the generator mode and thus supplying up to 120 kW to the two electric motors at the front from its kinetic energy. This additional power is available to the driver after each charge process for approximately 6 - 8 seconds.

The engine also is 102 pounds lighter than its predecessor, delivering a better power-to-weight ratio, improved fuel economy, acceleration, handling and steering precision. “Cutting weight to improve performance is a tradition among hot rodders,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby American. “It might not be as sexy as adding more horsepower or bigger brakes, but shaving pounds off of a car is the single smartest move you can make.” The new engine uses state-of-the-art Plasma Transferred Wire Arc (PTWA) liner coating, a process that applies a 150-micron composite coating that contains nanoparticles on the internal surfaces of engine cylinder bores, replacing cast-iron liners typically used in aluminum engine blocks. The Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation honored the inventors of the Ford-patented PTWA technology with the 2009 National Inventor of the Year Award. This is the first Ford application of the technology, and it offers improved overall performance and durability, along with functional benefits of reduced friction between piston rings and cylinder bores, improved heat transfer due to increased surface contact area and a weight savings of 8.5 pounds compared to a typical steel-sleeved aluminum block. A mechanical roughening process provides higher material adhesion for the spray coating.

35,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which melts a steel wire that is fed into a rotating spray gun. Using atomized air, the melted steel wire is blown into a specially machined surface of the aluminum-block engine cylinder bore. In the process of melting and applying the metal to the surface, the steel wire oxidizes, creating a composite coating consisting of both iron and iron oxide. “Ford’s Global Research and Advanced Engineering looks to all industries for advanced technologies – and this comes from aerospace. It’s the same technology you would find on aircraft engines,” said Glenn Jorgensen, SVT powertrain team leader. “We’ve invented a coating as a replacement for cast iron that delivers improvements in power and performance and fuel economy.” The new engine also has its roots in the iconic Ford GT. The new 5.4-liter engine is an evolution of the GT engine, with improved block structure through the use of a unique bulkhead chilled process and six-bolt billet main bearing caps. This new advanced engine will exceed Ford GT performance with its traditional supercharger technology. “The Ford GT has solidified itself as one of the world’s most coveted supercars. To make improvements to the engine from this supercar and make it available in a Mustang is impressive,” said Kerry Baldori, SVT global performance vehicle chief functional engineer. “The aluminum-block engine is robust and strong enough to produce the performance numbers and durability our customers demand.”

Wheaties Fuel If your Lucky Charms leave you short on energy before lunchtime rolls around, give Wheaties Fuel ($5) a shot in your cereal bowl. Developed with the help of Peyton Manning, Kevin Garnett, and Albert Pujols, Fuel packs 200 calories in each serving, with whole grains for energy, five grams of fiber to curb hunger, calcium and Vitamin D to help with bone growth, and 100 percent of five B vitamins to help your body release the energy stored in food, giving you a strong base on which to start your day.

Kent Mustache & Beard Comb Keep your facial hair in check throughout the day with the Kent Mustache & Beard Comb ($9). Saw cut and handmade in England, this diminutive comb -- just over 3 inches in length -- is small enough to keep in your pocket for mid-day grooming, and is gentle enough to use on both the face and scalp.

Radius First Aid Box Spor ting a lust-wor thy design, the Radius First Aid Box (€50-€90; roughly $70-$125) gives you an excuse to keep your emergency medical supplies within easy reach. Made from stainless steel and nylon fabric, the Radius is available in “Home” and “Professional” styles, the former meeting the din 13164 standard for private use, with the latter meeting the more robust din 13157 standard, good for up to 25 people.

Baxter Safety Razor Join the wet shaving crowd with the Baxter Safety Razor ($60). With a classic polished design, textured grip, and double edge blade, the Baxter is a nice way to get into the world of wet shaving, and comes complete in a black gift box with a pack of starter blades and an instructional card.

Creed Private Collection Tabarome It’s not very often we cover a product that isn’t going to be made anymore, but that’s precisely the case with Creed Private Collection Tabarome ($405). Because the quality and quantity of natural ingredients needed to make this rich, peppery, citrus-y scent no longer meet the standards of the Creed family, no more Vintage Tabarome will be produced, making the remaining stock, taken from the private supply of Creed’s President and encased in a shatterproof spray bottle wrapped in embossed caramel Italian leather, all the more desirable.

Proraso Shaving Cream Get a clean, close, and refreshing shave with Proraso Shaving Cream ($11). Made with eucalyptus oil, menthol, and glycerin, Proraso promises to soften even the heaviest of beards, leaving you with a smooth shave and well-moisturized, nourished skin.

St. Patrick’s day and general “Irishness”.

1 2 3

The actual color of St. Patrick is blue. Green became associated with St. Patrick’s Day during the 19th century. Green, in Irish legends, was worn by fairies and immortals.

St. Patrick did not actually drive snakes out of Ireland; the snakes represent the pagans that he converted to Christianity.

The very first St. Patrick’s Day parade was not in Ireland. It was in Boston in 1737.

In Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day, people traditionally wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps. Children wear orange, white and green badges, and women and girls wear green ribbons in their hair

Many young people dye their hair green for the special day.

9 10

Most Catholics attend mass in the morning and then attend the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Wooden truncheons, which have been carried by Irish police since the 1800s, will finally be phased out this year, and replaced by lightweight retractable batons. The truncheons, with notches, fancy carvings and names cut into them, were often passed down generations of gardai.

11 Many people wear green on this holiday to avoid being pinched.

12 13

34 million Americans have Irish ancestry, according to the 2003 US Census. That’s almost nine times the population of Ireland, which has 4.1 million people.

Many bars in the United States, and abroad, serve green beer to celebrate St. Patty’s Day.

In Seattle, there is a ceremony where a green stripe is painted down the roads.

In Chicago, on St. Patrick’s Day, the rivers are dyed green. Mayor Daley is also of Irish descent. DESIREMAGAZINE MARCH 2010

One traditional Irish cure for a hangover was to be buried up to the neck in moist river sand.

Some American towns have “Irish” names. You could visit: Mount GayShamrock, West Virginia; Shamrock Lakes, Indiana; & Shamrock, Oklahoma;

Shamrocks are worn on the lapel on this day. *

The phrase, “Drowning The Shamrock” is from the custom of floating the shamrock on the top of whiskey before drinking it. The Irish believe that if you keep the custom, then you will have a prosperous year.

Lucky Charms, a favorite cereal brand among many, young and old, was created in 1963, with its popular mascot, Lucky the Leprechaun. Its jig is a memorable tune for many, including the young at heart.

The harp is the symbol of Ireland. The color green is also commonly associated with Ireland, also known as “the Emerald Isle.”

Nine of the people who signed our Declaration Of Independence were of Irish origin, and nineteen Presidents of the United States proudly claim Irish heritage -- including our first President, George Washington.

One estimate suggests that there are about 10,000 regular three-leaf clovers for every lucky four-leaf clover. The Irish flag is green, white and orange. The green symbolizes the people of the south, and orange, the people of the north. White represents the peace. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the highest number of leaves found on a clover is 14. There is no death penalty in Ireland. The name “leprechaun” has several origins. It could be from the Irish Gaelic word “leipreachan,” which means “a kind of aqueous sprite.” Legend says that each leaf of the clover means something: the first is for hope, the second for faith, the third for love and the fourth for luck.

Capricorn: December 22- Jan 19 You have opportunities to engage in pleasurable social and romantic activities, which gives you a sense of wholeness and emotional well-being. You may take a renewed interest in your creative or artistic endeavors, as you come up with very unique and different concepts. You can alleviate any former differences with a loved one now by revitalizing the relationship or looking for new ways to approach everyday situations. There may be several opportunities for various recreational and entertaining times with someone you love. This is also a good time to redefine what you value and desire in your partnerships. When discussing concerns with your mate, you are able to relate to their viewpoint with a greater sense of fairness at this time. If your mate or partner is troubled by anything, you can have a very special healing effect on them now. On another level, you and your mate can begin constructive joint ventures now, for instance, combining your unique talents and abilities on a project or making sound investments from your personal assets and financial resources. Aquarius: Jan 20- Feb 18 This is a good time to undertake projects which bring out your natural talent and creativity. If there is a new skill or craft you wish to develop, now is the time to plan and strategize ways to realize your ideals. You may have an opportunity to join up with others who have similar creative and artistic leanings, prompting you to gain more confidence and faith in your abilities. Your physical and mental vitality is at a high point, and thus affords you with the will and determination to be your most productive. Pisces: February 19- March 20 Trying a different approach may improve long-standing or current problems in relationships and private matters at this time. A more liberal outlook on the complexities of life may give you more understanding of your own and other people’s deep-rooted needs and issues. You may have greater ability to emotionally detach yourself from a situation and gain new perspectives on healing old wounds or be of guidance and inspiration to someone who is in need of assistance. Humanitarian or social awareness may also increase during this period, and you may become involved in group encounters or activities which stimulate your innermost beliefs and philosophies. Aries: March 21-April 20 You find it stressful to balance needs for freedom and independence with needs for love and intimate companionship. You really behave quite oddly or aloof right now which will put others off considerably thus affording you the space you need, but at a cost. You are also attracted to the exotic, offbeat, unusual, or bizarre at this time. People or things which might offend your senses at other times now arouse your appreciation and interest. This will not be a boring time if you can help it! But it is apt to be a tense time if you are in a close, bonded relationship. Taurus: April 21-May 20 An intense emotional or sexual attraction, a very revealing, intimate encounter, or a powerful desire to be close to and share your deepest feelings with someone is very likely now. Emotions and issues in a close relationship that have been brewing beneath the surface for quite awhile come to the surface at this time, possibly in a very disruptive way. All of your relationships intensify and you need to be aware of your tendency to act in a rather compulsive, demanding way towards others. Mental clarity, discrimination, and your ability to separate fact from fiction is diminished now. Miscommunications and an inability to formulate your ideas coherently are likely. Your mind wanders, and this can be a time of creative reverie or daydreaming. Avoid making binding contracts at this time. Gemini: May 21- June 21 Personal gains may come through professional or influential connections This is a very pleasant period of your life, with many enjoyable social gatherings, entertainments, parties, and festivities. You find it much easier than usual to smile and extend good will towards others. Don’t hold back your feelings; use this time to develop the habit of a positive, loving, optimistic attitude towards life. This is an excellent time for dancing and singing with others. If you are too shy to sing with others or openly share with others in other ways, now is a good time to break down this timidity and rigidity. This astrological influence is not extremely powerful, so don’t sit back and wait for all of these things to happen of their own accord. The opportunity and impetus for these changes is definitely there, but it is up to you to bring out the best that is possible.

Cancer: June 22- July 22 Your love relationships are harmonious and fulfilling now. If you are not currently involved in a love relationship, but would like to be, then this may very well be the time when your “love drought” ends. Don’t become too narrowly focused on this possibility, however. This is an excellent time for meeting people of many different life styles and forming many different kinds of friendships and acquaintances. These relationships are just as rewarding and important as the closer and more romantic ones, for one of the benefits of this astrological influence is that it provides the opportunity and ability to share close feelings with people of many different walks of life. Leo: July 23- August 23 This is a good time to travel, especially to places you’ve never experienced before, where you will be exposed to new ideas and different ways of looking at the world. Studying new concepts is also favored; your ability to understand abstract ideas and your desire to grow intellectually is strong now. Anything that broadens your world appeals to you at this time. You are interested in the big picture and have less attention and interest in details. You are inspired creatively, artistically, or spiritually at this time. Your imagination, intuition, and psychic sensitivity are high now, and you find yourself wanting to paint or listen to music, daydream, or fantasize rather than concentrate on practical matters. Virgo: August 23-September 23 You may need to concentrate more diligently on work at this time. Your performance can be lacking in both focus and inspiration because of confusion or anxiety about your work obligations. Other people may attempt to undermine or frustrate your efforts, leaving you prone to deception and disappointment at work. You may discover you are sacrificing your own personal interests with regard to your work or intimate relationships. The reverse is also likely, as you might choose to retreat from heavy responsibilities and commitments and take a more emotionally detached or aloof approach to your work or personal relationships. Libra: September 23 - October 23 You begin to take on a more direct and forceful attitude in your nurturing and protective role toward family members. You become deeply involved in the activities of people you are responsible for, defending their actions, projects, and ambitions. If you have children, you will feel very protective of them now, especially if you are the primary caretaker. You may be interested in improving the dietary habits, nutrition, and general well-being of those in your care. You must learn, however, to share the decision making and authoritative role in your home and find other creative outlets to release your powerful energy and drive. This is an excellent time to be out and about. There are significant opportunities to make connections, exchange information, and to learn something through a meeting or chance encounter. Letters, phone calls, and conversations that you initiate are productive at this time. Scorpio: October 23- November 21 This is a favorable period in which to focus on your career ambitions and professional responsibilities. A fortunate opportunity can arise for you to assume a more administrative or leadership position in your organization. Contributing to social causes or working with public agencies will be rewarding and beneficial to your career pursuits and worldly ambitions. If you are unemployed or searching for a new career direction, this is a good time to seek favors from those in positions of authority. Your reputation may be highly regarded and respected by others now, and your interest focused on achieving social and business success. Sagittarius: November 23 - Dec 21 You may take an all-or-nothing approach to your work or personal endeavors. You can be very clear as to what your own intentions are and may be ready to sacrifice anything to accommodate your plans and goals. You might have an eager interest in gaining control over your professional pursuits; however, you could behave more forcefully than you realize. In your restless quest for meaningful work and personal fulfillment, you can easily be intrigued or enticed into an unfavorable situation by a colleague or co-worker who has hidden motives. Thoroughly investigate the true intentions of people who try to exert pressure or influence over you. Be aware of individuals who may be dishonest or attempt to misrepresent themselves to you. They might take advantage of your services or abilities and try to get you to engage in underhanded activities. On the other hand, personal relationships may entail heavy obligations and commitment now. If you insist on having your own way, problems will arise in this area. Compromise on your part may be called for if you have been avoiding responsibility or intimate relating.
