imagine in a few corners of this community, the old familiar wrangling of “Ain’t nothin’ to do here” is still uttered. To the credit of many hardworking souls, courageous dreamers, and proud civic minded folks, that mantra truly doesn’t apply anymore. The season of PLENTY (events, that is) is upon us. Get your calendar out and mark some of these dates down.

IREDELL IREDELL LIVING LIVING •• MAY MAY 2017 2017
May 4, 5, and 6–Theatre Statesville presents The Tom Dooley Project at the historic Iredell County Courthouse. You probably know that Tom Dooley, the man of musical folklore, was tried and hung in Statesville. Theatre Statesville will recreate bits and pieces of Tom’s trial—a little tidbit of history is that the prosecuting attorney was none other than North Carolina’s Governor Zebulon Vance. To get tickets please go to www.statesvilletheatre.com. May 12, May 26 and June 9–The first three of nine concerts in the Piedmont HealthCare Friday after Five concert series will be in beautiful downtown Statesville. These events typically draw a crowd of 2,000 people plus, and you might want to be part of it. There is probably no more scenic downtown venue in North Carolina. We are delighted to note that RadioJacks kick off the season with covers of recent hits. On May 26, we bring back one of our favorites, Divided by Four, to serenade us with deep soul and jazz. We feature one of the most sought after bands each year on June 9 with Statesville’s own, The Catalinas, a MUST for everyone. May 13–Join us for the Third Annual Troutman Chair Front Porch Fest in
downtown Troutman. Could there be a better place to kick back your heels in a rocking chair from Troutman Chair and enjoy the food, family, crafts, music, and soul of this great community? We will be up and running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with two music stages, great food, vendors, and lots of smiles. No charge to attend, but you have to smile. May 19 and 20–Full Bloom Home and Garden Show will be held at the old Sears building at Signal Hill Mall. This inaugural event will feature vendors that help make YOUR dreams come true. Are you interested in having your yard designed to stun passersby? Are you considering remodeling your home, adding a hot tub, or refinishing your deck? Are you hoping someone can help you put some reality to your dreams? The Full Bloom Home and Garden Show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, with free admission. For more information, please go to www.statesvillechamber.org or call 704-873-2892. The brevity of this column does not allow me to embellish anymore that relates to further events. To learn about more festivities for your heart, soul, or mind, please go to www.statesvillechamber.org or www.downtownstatesvillenc.org. If you’d like to post events on either of these calendars, please feel free to submit. We are truly a community that’s always looking for ways to kick up our heels. Join us as we celebrate Statesville, Troutman, and Iredell County.
