Statement 12 categories. 29 countries. 690 submissions. Vienna had much to offer during these one and a half jury days. Almost twice as many entries than in 2012 required our full concentration and attention. A clear picture formed gradually in intensive talks, with priorities, opinions, and decisions taking shape. The multitudinousness of the jury served as a finely meshed filter in which also the quiet works got caught. What else has remained? In Corporate Design, powerful visual identities impressed us not only with their convincing graphic elements, but also with their wonderfully humorous and narrative concepts. The organisers and hosts won us over with their charm and nonchalance, while the Joseph Binder Award presented itself on the constant level of high quality it has displayed for several years now. What is so remarkable is that this is a pleasantly fair and renowned design competition. For at a time when many design awards have degenerated into mere marketing platforms or virtually outbid one another in treating participating designers with impoliteness and presumptuousness, this Austrian design prize has lost nothing of Joseph Binder’s original idea.
