SS. Peter and Paul Parish Pastoral Council Minutes of Meeting May 16, 2011

Present: Liz Aderton, Mary Beth Brummond, Jim Cannon, Gabriella Dubsky, Paul Gallo, Tom Gavin, Kristine Gorecki, Tom Lupinacci, Ruthy O’Malley, Tom Rogers, Margie Sznajder, Fr. Milota, Jane Bowers, Tom Boler Absent: Brendon Heffron, Dolly McCarthy Guests: Steve Keeley, Jerry Buch I.

Opening Prayer Liz Aderton called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. and Fr. Milota led the opening prayer.

II.

Approval of April Minutes The minutes of the April 26, 2011 meeting were approved on a motion by Jim Cannon, seconded by Tom Lupinacci.

III.

Approval of Agenda The agenda was approved with the following change: addition of Election of Officers during an Executive Session at the end of the meeting, on a motion by Tom Gavin, seconded by Tom Lupinacci.

IV.

Open Forum Fr. Milota said that Steve Keeley has won the election. He has asked Tom Stone to serve on the Administration Commission; and asked that Tom be kept in our prayers as he undergoes a procedure on Friday. Jerry Buch was introduced; he is the incoming representative for the Administration Commission. Bob Wold will be the representative for the Religious Education Commission. The representative for Parish Life has not been appointed yet.

V.

Commission Reports A. Teen Update Gabriella Dubsky said that there is a teen social coming up and that the teens next focus will be on the Acts of the Apostles. B. Administration 1. Second Read 2011-12 Budget Tom Boler reviewed the second read of the budget noting the changes since last month. Some of the changes are due to the move of Adult Evangelization from the RE budget to the Church budget. The School budget is based on 600 students and

they were able to lower the tuition increase to 5.7%. With the approval of an additional $100,000 from the Development Committee, they requested that a School surplus be used toward their subsidy for the next year. There were no changes to the RE budget from the first read. A motion to approve their second read of the budget was made Tom Rogers, seconded by Tom Gavin. Motion approved. 2. Fiscal Year to Date Financials Jim Cannon reviewed the April financials. He noted that Church collections’ trend is to drop now through the end of the fiscal year. Most of the surplus remaining in the School budget will be spent in May. RE budget variance is mostly due to one less staff person than budgeted. C. New Evangelization Tom Lupinacci distributed an update on their work. He said this is the last week for Gifts of Finest Wheat. Additional overviews of the Mass changes will be scheduled closer to Advent. We had 640 attend Scott Hahn’s presentation. D. Worship No report. E. Christian Service Tom Gavin said they will meet next week. F. Religious Education Tom Rogers said their last meeting for this fiscal year was May 2. The Council had previously asked about the number of RE participants; he distributed a list with that information. Deacon Ron thought the First Communions, which were all in one day, went well. RE and the Church are now on the same computer database. G. Parish Life No report. VI.

Old Business A. Neighborhood Meetings These have been put on hold until fall following the capital small group meetings. B. Capital Campaign Fr. Milota said that the leadership is in place for this campaign; with Mike Sznajder as chair. Ray Jones will oversee lead gifts; Pete Vanderhaten will oversee major gifts and Kathy McHugh special gifts/broad efforts. We also have consultants involved. There will be a major push throughout the Parish the end of September on this campaign.

President’s Report Liz Aderton said it has been a privilege to be able to serve.


Ss. Peter and Paul Parish Pastoral Council May 16, 2011 Page 3 VIII. Pastor’s Comments Fr. Milota thanked Liz for her service and leadership to the Council and to the Parish Life Commission. He thanked Jim Cannon for his many years of leadership to the Administration Commission; Tom Rogers for his positive input and work in reconstituting the RE Board; and Ruthy O’Malley for her great service even though it has been short; and everyone for their work on the board – it is beyond what one person can do and it is appreciated. IX.

Executive Session The Council went into Executive Session to elect officers for the 2011-2012 Council.

X.

Closing Prayer The closing prayer was given by Tom Lupinacci.

XI.

Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 8:44 p.m.
