WHY ARE MY EYELASHES FALLING OUT? This is a question some of us find ourselves asking, when we're facing ourselves in the mirror. See, eyelashes are just like the cells in the human body. As old cells die, new ones will rise up. But if you're one whose lashes have a rapid rate of falling out and a slow rate of growing back, that's a problem. There are a lot of reasons why your eyelashes might be divorcing you, you'd do better to fast identify the cause of your eyelash lost. Here are a couple of reasons why:

MASCARA USE You know that thing people say, 'wearing makeup to bed is not bad'. Well, wearing mascara to bed is even worse. I understand wanting to just collapse after a long day but take time to wash the makeup and mascara off. The friction of the pillow against your eyelashes damage your eyebrow. And waterproof mascaras should be a no-no. If you use them and find yourselves losing eyelashes and don't know why, that's why.

RUBBING TOO HARD When you're not gentle with the process of your makeup removal around the eyelashes and on the eyelashes, your eyebrows might find that abusive and decide to leave you... into the sink.

DOING IT WRONG If you're a fan of false lashes and lash extensions, this could be another reason because you might be removing the additions very wrongly, hence, eyelashes loss.

BLEPHARITIS It is the inflammation of the eyelid due to an infection or allergic reaction. If you have this, it's the reason you're losing your eyelashes.

ILLNESS There are so many diseases that involve rapid hair loss. If you're sick, check for the effects of the illness - if hair loss is among the effects, now you know. You can also check the effects of an illness by visiting the doctor.

EYELASH CURLER Using this puts traction on your hair and pulls your hair out.

EYELASH GROWTH CYCLE One thing you need to understand about eyelashes is - like every other thing, it has a process. So, don't be alarmed when you look at yourself in the mirror on that Saturday morning and notice you've lost an eyelash with an evident evidence resting on your cheek. Fun Fact: Every hair on the body actually has a growth cycle. They completely replace themselves every couple years.

EYELASH FUNCTION You might look at eyelashes like they're just a beauty feature, but their importance goes past that. It could be said that they're designed to protect our eyes from whatever it may be that might find itself in the air and floating towards our eyes. You could also call Eyelashes, sensory hairs, because when dust or dirt is about to get into the eye, they reflexively shut close. The upper lid of the eyelashes has about 90 to 150 lashes on it, and the bottom, between 70 and 80 lashes. And they are mostly just 10mm long.

GROWTH PHASE The growth phase is also called the anagen phase. During this time is when the lashes are growing actively, and it goes on for a period of 30-45 days. Each lash grows to a specific length and then stops. But only about 40 percent of the upper lash and 15 percent of the lower lash can grow together at any one time.

TRANSITION PHASE Also called the catagen phase. This phase is when the eyelash stops growing and the hair follicle shrinks. When an eyelash falls out during this time, it won't grow right back because the follicle needs to complete the catagen phase so as to move to the next one. It takes two to three weeks.

RESTING PHASE Also called the telogen phase. This phase takes more than 100 days before the eyelash falls out and a new one begins to grow. During this time, it's quite normal for some lashes to fall out. It takes four to eight weeks to fully replace an eyelash.

HOW CAN I PREVENT EYELASH LOSS? Use an oil based makeup remover to gently remove the makeup around the eyes. You could hold a cotton round against the lids for a few second to loosen the product. Check with your doctor whenever you're ill to know the effects of it. Stop sleeping with your mascara on. For false lashes and lash extensions, when trying to remove them, do so gently or use a “Q-tip doused in an oil based cleanser to lose the glue at the lash line before pulling them off . If you want to use an eyelash curler, heat the curler up first with a blow dryer, gives what you're trying to achieve a better result.

HOW TO MAKE MY EYELASHES LONGER, THICKER, DARKER AND STRONGER?! Regularly brush your eyelashes. You can also add a few drops of Vitamin E oil to your eyelashes. This prevents them from shedding. Apply Conditioner to your lashes before bed. Eat vitamins. Let them be part of your daily consumption. Vitamins such as vitamins B, D and E help the Eyelashes stay strong. Stop using eyelash curlers. They weaken the lashes. Massage the eyelid area and near the lashes as this helps to increase blood flow and circulation making your lashes grow.

A study done, found that in 86 patients who used lavender to treat hair loss, over 44% saw significant hair growth. And when the two are mixed together, it is soothing and nutrient rich, plus it’s antibacterial and antimicrobial. But you could also use the coconut oil: It is safe to use in and around the eyes. Remember, it is only oil. Oil is painless and it will clear soon enough. Another advantage of coconut oil is, it gives your eyelashes the appearance of being longer and fuller - like a mask, only you can tell who's under it and makes them eyelashes shine. So, instead of using Mascara, use the coconut oil instead. Among its many benefits, it also reduces protein loss in the hair. For those that didn't know, lack of protein in a hair makes it look damaged. But healthy amounts of protein in the hair makes it grow faster and fuller.
