What I’m Into Chad Cox, 37 Why you should know him: Cox is an author, photographer, storyteller and the organizer of Story Mob, a quarterly storytelling event where anyone is invited to share a five minute story. The story must include a set prop (this month it’s a suitcase), and a panel of local storytellers judges and awards the winner a cash prize. The last good book I read was: “The Space Between” by Kali VanBaale My favorite storyteller is: Maureen Korte The key to a five minute story is: Find the exit ramp as quickly as possible. Rambling is boring. _____ is a site I visit way too often: This site promotes critical discussion on local art and fills a much needed gap in our community. My favorite bookstore is: Beaverdale Books. What a tremendous supporter of local talent. My worst habit is: Working at all hours of the night. Sleep is overrated.

See Cox tell his story by using the LifeInAction app.

On a weekend night you might find me: Reading poetry to my kids before bedtime. A song I haven’t been able to get out of my head lately is: “Little Talks” by Of Monsters and Men. After a Story Mob, I like to: Head next door to open mic at Open Circus (an open mic by the Des Moines Social Club) from 9 p.m. to midnight Thursdays at Java Joe’s. My hope for the new Des Moines Social Club location is: To see Des Moines Social Club become a premiere art institution that fosters social change and revitalizes the city.

Story Mob When: 7 p.m. Wednesday Where: Des Moines Social Club, 400 Walnut St. Cost: $5 Info:
