488 Broadway, New York, NY 10012 Size: 502 m2

How can design provide consumers with a provocative experience which might raise their awareness of animal rights and help end the use of fur as a fashion prosthetic?

Made with AutoCAD, Rhino, Photoshop

“For Autumn/Winter 2015 – 2016, 73% of the designers showing during collections in New York, Paris, London and Milan included fur in their collections.”

http://www.fur.org/fica-facts/

“Warmth was the number one reason given by consumers when asked why they own a fur coat.”

FICA - Fur Information Council of America

“Most fur comes from China where animal protection laws are virtually non-existent.”

“Fur Sales on the Rise” Shimon Shuchat - Friends of Animals (international animal advocacy group) July 5th, 2016

Tourists Spending

Global Pop.Growth Rate Declines, Mink Production Rate Increases, which reflects the increasing demand for mink fur.

International tourists spend four times than domestic tourists, therefore the value of 488 Broadway is to let international tourists serve as fur awareness information carriers and bring their experience back to their country.

Inspired by the survey, Retail Exhibition with Free Lounge serves as an attraction in the SoHo district

A program is proposed which incorporates exhibition and retail. The initial attraction is an offering of free mobile phone charging and a place to rest from shopping in SoHo. One enters the space through the NorthWest through the revolving door on the west facade, 5 different sized cages are apparent, stepping into the space, close to the edge of the cage, one sees rescued minks rambling around the space. The next cage contains the latest PETA vegan awarded clothing. The film cage informs the occupant on the brutality of the fur industry. One may charge their phone within the charge and rest in the cage, the point of view of one held captive. This shift in perspective hopes to increase awareness of mistreatment and end our unnecessary use of fur as a significance of luxury. The project is prototypical and may be deployed in cities where fur is regarding as a fashion trend rather than a necessity. An explorative approach is designed to arouse fashionable people’s conscience on animal rights.

This is a high-end residential apartment located in downtown Brooklyn. Peter is a National Geographic photographer, his spouse Lucy is a college professor. Their 3 years old son Jack enjoys to play around with his toys in the house. Because Jack is little, a well designed space that allows his parents to see him all the time is fundamentally critical. While parents are focusing on their own things they can ensure the safety of Jack, thus feeling secured. At the same time, if little curious Jack is having any questions, he can always interact with his daddy or mommy.

By understanding brass qualities and by applying the material system of scoring, creates form, flexibility, and reflectivity, it eventually leads to unique design with this unconventional approach. In this case, brass reflectivity is present in the space to enhance gallery experience. Reflected brass light resonates with the audience and creates a unique experience apart from other traditional galleries.

Analysis of the three artworks forms three unique elements: rectangular plane shape, intersection, and recession (can be interpreted as a form of influence). These elements then serve as inspirations in creating filter panels that could influence Sotheby's office design.

As layers of panels are being added together, they form visual intensity, which result in changing opacities, thus generate display surfaces and patterns for lighting effects.

After realizing that students spend an average of 60 hours a week working in interior design studio, it fundamentally important to have a place in the studio allowing students to feel comfortable taking a power nap or stretching in order to relieve some physical and mental tension. The napping area provides privacy and comfort needed to relax, while the stretching area provides space to perform some essential physical stretches. The recharge station is fabricated with folding and rivet techniques on recycled aluminum sheets.
