_________________________ A Bit More Reserved__________________________ A few weeks since my last notes, but not a very good time in terms of results. We travelled to Great Bentley two weeks ago, with a good enough squad to compete. After losing Sam Simms and then Harvey Rothcell to injury, we drafted in Ricky White, who got injured in the warm up! Not the best preparation. With our usual centre half Harry Windred going in goal we re-shuffled at short notice. But for brief switch off, leading to Bentley taking the lead, we had a good first half. Franky Selwyn and Ross Brazitas really standing out. However, the second half didn’t live up to the same expectations and despite some half chances, we conceded a couple of soft goals and ended up losing 3-0. In between our next game, both Harry Windred and Billy Latto were called up to the Border League rep' side. Unfortunately Billy missed this due to holiday. But Harry helped them to a 1-0 win (I am not biased, promise). The hope is to see some more players recognized in this squad. Last Saturday saw us take on high flying Stanway Pegasus. A side that narrowly beat us a month or so ago. It was great to see Sam Simms return in goal. But with six regular players missing, four of which were midfielders, we once again had to re-shuffle and to be honest, it was always going to be a tall order to compete. The start was great, the impressive Rob Pratt opened the scoring within 30 seconds - but within 5 minutes, we found ourselves 2-1 down. Whilst I didn’t feel we disgraced ourselves, asking several players to play out of position against a very strong side led to a 5-1 defeat. The positive was a full 90 minutes for academy player Theo Sanderson, who was up against one of the leagues better players. So some injuries building up, notably right back Matt Bedford, who could be out for months now. But a few back for our next game against Lawford. I was pleased to re-sign Mark Palmer from Harwich & Parkeston, who will push for a first team place and add experience to our midfield and I hope to add one more player - hopefully in time for the Lawford game. Last thing to say, despite the home defeat, it was softened by the excellent result our A side had at Pegasus. Gavin and Richard, clearly doing a fantastic job and slowly turning around a young team.

The Player’s Sponsorship is an area of additional revenue for the Club, and provides a chance for an Acorns’ supporter to be identified with a player. We would like all the First Team squad and the First Team Management Team to be sponsored for this season. If you wish to sponsor a player please ask for a ‘Players Sponsorship’ application from a club bar staff member or ask Derek Murr. A Player can be sponsored more than once!

The cost to sponsor a player for Season 2019/20 is £100.00.

Every Wednesday and Friday at 11:00am you can join us for a slice of the beautiful game at a slower pace. Our Walking Football coaching sessions are aimed at the over 50’s for both males and females to provide exercise, improve skills and just have a lot of fun! No running or slide tackles….PLEASE!! We meet up and play on the 3G pitch at the Memorial Ground between 11:00am and 12:00pm every Wednesday and Friday. Each session involves training under the watchful eye of James Martin our FA Level 1 Coach. We are always looking for some nifty over fifties to rediscover their competitive side and join our team. We compete in friendlies, mini tournaments and are they will be competing in the >50’s, >60's and >65's Divisions of the Essex Walking Football League next season. If you think your footballing days are over – then

think again! Sessions are £4.00 per person. We’re now averaging over 24 per

session!

To increase attendances at our grounds, the Thurlow Nunn League, in conjunction with its clubs and its sponsor, Thurlow Nunn, is promoting the need to turn matches into a more family-orientated entertainment in a familyfriendly environment. The League understands that football is a game of intensity and passion. In the heat of the moment, frustrations grow, tempers can be lost and there is an urgent need to share your feelings with others. The League also understands that, in that moment, you may use language that others may not feel is appropriate in a family setting. Nothing will send parents and/or grandparents heading quickly for the exits with their youngsters, never to return, than a constant stream of foul language. All we ask is that you keep it down for the kids. Thank You. Thurlow Nunn League

**Leyton Athletic pulled out of the League – lack of a ground share

____________ ‘The Gaffer’s View From The Dugout’ _____________ Welcome everyone this afternoon to the Memorial Ground and a warm welcome to Alex Salmon and his Burnham Ramblers squad. Since the last time we spoke we have travelled to League leaders Lopes Tavares and were in First Division Knockout Cup action against Holland FC. Last Saturday we travelled to East London with a few hardy souls on the bus. It ended in a 10 defeat but I strangely thought it was our best performance of the season across the whole game. We created enough chances to get a goal but just lacked the quality to get us there. A big thank you to the supporters who came over. On Tuesday we faced Holland FC and it was fantastic to get back to winning ways. To come back from 1-0 down showed a great attitude from the boys. This afternoon we face a Burnham Ramblers side we have played twice already, they are a tough opponent and both games have been tight affairs. We have a few of the usual missing today but we are happy to give some of the lads who have been patient their chance. Enjoy the game. Come on you Acorns!

Teddy

__________________________Burnham Ramblers__________________________ The first record of football being played in Burnham dates back to 1895. Out of this Burnham Ramblers came to be formed in 1900. For 27 years the club used four different grounds until they moved to Wick Road. The ground was gradually improved and extended over the years and, after many successful seasons as a junior club, gained intermediate status in 1960. The club then progressed further to gain senior status in 1985. Prior to 1985, Ramblers played in many competitions and won several honours, including reaching the Essex Junior Cup Final on three occasions and the Essex Intermediate Cup Final in 1981, losing to Leytonstone & Ilford. The club’s greatest venture was completed when after years of preparation we moved to our current ten-acre complex. This includes three pitches and a training pitch. Over the last few years we have improved our facilities even more in preparation for promotion from Step 5 to Step 4. In 1988/9 Ramblers had their greatest success to date when they reached the last sixteen in the F.A. Vase, but lost 1-0 to Southern League Bury Town. In 1991/2 we reached the last 32, losing at Newport (lOW) 3-1. In 1997 the club won its first senior trophy when we beat Stansted 2-1 in the Harry Fisher Cup Final. Since then we have been runners up in E.S.L competitions eight times. Three players made it into full professional football, Fred Wolfe to West Ham in 1911, Gordon Brasted to Arsenal in 1953 and John Warner to Colchester in 1988. A major blow in 2000 was the untimely death of our Chairman Gordon Brasted. With the demise of the Harry Fisher Trophy, we were delighted to replace it with the Gordon Brasted Trophy in the Essex Senior League, a fitting memorial to Gordon. William (Billy) Hannan took over as Chairman in 2003, Billy remains as our chairman today. 2003 – 2006 Mike Everett became 1st team manager. The season started better than hoped reaching the 2nd Qualifying round in the FA Cup and the 2nd round in the FA Vase but failed to reach expectation as the season progressed. Season 2004/2005 finishing runners up to Enfield Town by just one point in the league and just missing out again on promotion, reaching the Gordon Brasted Final and losing to Waltham Abbey on penalty’s, winning the Tolleshunt D’Arcy Cup beating Stanway Rovers 2–1 in the final and semi-finalists in the League Cup. Work was completed on the ground in 2005 in readiness for promotion to Step 4 with the inclusion of three new turnstiles and new perimeter fencing. 2006 - 2008; Derek Robinson takes over as 1st team manager for the start of season 2006/2007, Derek resigned as 1st team manager in October 2008. 2008 – 2010 Garry Kimble took over 1st team manager with Clive Day as his Assistant/Coach. on 11th April 2009 the Ramblers won their first Senior Trophy for 12 years winning the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy beating Enfield 1893 2–1. Season 2009/2010 finishing third in the ESL and losing in the League Cup final for the second year running. The club was successful in the Tolleshunt D’Arcy winning a close final beating Witham Town FC. Season 2010 - 2011 saw Keith Wilson step up from Club Captain to take over as 1st team manager assisted by David Patient. Winning the Gordon Brasted Memorial Cup in extra time 4–2 against Eton Manor FC and finishing seventh in their first season was a great achievement. Season 2011 – 2012 Keith Wilson and Dave Patient remained at the helm and kept most of last season’s players, finishing a credible 4th in the league and reaching the semi-finals of the Gordon Brasted Memorial Cup and losing finalist in the League Cup and Tolleshunt D’Arcy Memorial Cup. Season 2012 – 2103 again Keith and Dave retained most of last season’s players with a few experienced additions, finally the club achieved its best ever season as CHAMPIONS of the Essex Senior League leading the premier division for most of the season finally winning by nine points then to go on and complete the double by beating Enfield 1893 8-2 in the Gordon Brasted Final. Keith promised the club promotion within three years and kept to his promise. As ESL Champions the Ramblers have been promoted into The Ryman Isthmian Division 1 North for the 1st time in its history and looks forward to playing at Step 4 of the National Pyramid for season 2013 2014 retaining the services of both Keith Wilson (Manager) and David Patient (Assistant Manager), this coming season they will be looking to keep most of last season’s winning squad but with some experienced additions plus they have strengthened their back room staff with the inclusion of two excellent coaches Adam Munn and Lee Elliston. Season 2013 – 2014 Keith & Dave keep a good part of last season’s winning squad and had a sound start to life at Step 4 of the National Pyramid playing in the Isthmian Ryman Division 1 North, finishing 17th in our first season Adam Munn and Lee Elliston joined the coaching staff, Lee left to manage Woodford Town in November, he was replaced by the experienced Leon Woodford. The most successful manager in the clubs history, Keith Wilson decides to leave the club on 6th July 2014 and after four years of stability at the club sees lots of changes with Lee Elliston leaving after only two weeks as 1st team manager. The club is proud to announce the launch of The Burnham Ramblers Youth Academy under the directorship of Dave Thompson and Leon Woodford. We have three teams Under 16, Under 17 and Under 18 in the Eastern Junior Alliance, plus the newly formed Under 21’s playing in the Ryman under 21 League for season 2014 – 2015 Season 2014 – 2015 Bertie Brayley takes over as 1st Team Player Manager on Friday 1st August just one week before the start of the new season he is assisted by Leon Woodford as 1st Team Coach. With just four League games remaining of the 2014-15 season, Bertie Brayley resigned and Keith Wilson returned as 1st Team Manager together with David Patient (Assistant Manager) and John Pike (Coach) retaining the services of all three for the 2015-16 season. In 2017–18 the club finished second-from-bottom of the Essex Senior League and were relegated to the new Division One South of the Eastern Counties League.
