Road Trip & Raising Reading Expectations-High School Supporting all students so that they meet the more rigorous reading expectations set by the Colorado Academic Standards means that we Middle School Language Arts educators must deepen our knowledge of rich, complex, high-interest text! This Road Trip will include a visit to Bookies located in Denver, where participants will engage in a facilitated book chat with Bookies resident expert in secondary fiction and nonfiction. Participants will explore their own background knowledge related to grade level appropriate text and extend their knowledge of available adolescent literature and text with the new more rigorous learning expectations in mind. Participants by school will have an opportunity to align their current text selections to ensure appropriate alignment and identify which texts will be a new best fit for their students. Participants will meet at Mountain View High School and be ready to leave for Denver @ 7:45am. This class is open to all high school Language Arts teachers and Media Librarians in the district.
