MOSAIC BYZANTINE STYLE With the triumph of Christianity and the consequently building of Christian Churches over the centuries, mural mosaics became one of the highest expressions of sacred art. The masters at Demetz Art Studio keep this tradition alive and can create marvellous depictions of Christ Pantocrator in Byzantine style, as seen on this page. The art of mosaic lived its time of prosperity during the IV and VIII century. Some of the most famous masterpieces can be seen in Rome, Constantinople, Ravenna and Venice.

LAST SUPPER

Classic paintings, such as in this case the Last Supper by Philippe de Champaigne, can be used as an inspiration for the realization of a wall mosaic. This, thanks to a millenary tradition acquired after long and accurate experience achieved. Here the mosaic is made of tesserae, which are small pieces of brilliant coloured glass, ceramic, enamels, or even genuine 24 carat gold on glass, cut in a cubical or other regular shape and then applied one next to the other keeping a precise spacing between them. All this procedure is made by hand.

A great advantage of a mosaic is that it can be installed outdoor, the elements such as sun or rain do not affect the colours. In fact, we can still admire mosaics that are more than thousand years old. Even if they are underwater like the beautiful Roman mosaics in a bay near Napels in Italy. It can also be done in a modern way by combining it with a sculpture custom cast in bronze. Together with your architect, builder or designer we will elaborate the best realization and easiest mounting solution. Also, we can ship it completed and already mounted on a panel with a stainless steel frame: as this 18 ft (5,5 m) high and 6 ft (1,83 m) wide masterpiece.

Great architects and famous liturgical designers have taken more and more interest in this millenary expression of art, proposing mural decoration to embellish and enhance religious buildings. Large wall mosaics are made with the so called “reverse application”. They are glued on the reverse side onto paper in sections which will then be mounted by our professional installers directly onto your church’s front or indoor wall. These numbered sections get applied onto the wall by using a thin-layer of adhesive cement and finally the paper gets removed.

MOSAIC ROMAN STONE

The “Roman technique” is another form of mosaic decoration. It uses tiny pieces of marble or stones in different colors. These have the advantage of being much harder and durable. They are especially suitable for flooring or harsh outdoor exposure thanks to their hardness. But still, they have their own charm and timeless beauty. © copyright Demetz Art Studio All right reserved

MODERN MOSAIC Artistic tessera (Latin: “cubes”) are still being produced by hand, one piece at a time, individually. The colors are melted together with glass in a furnace. Then the liquid outcome gets flattened out and cooled down before it can finally be cut into many small pieces. All this is done by hand, thus making the glass tessaras extremely valuable.

Another aspect besides its beauty is the great advantage that there are neither size nor shape limitations when using mosaic. Whatever you wish to cover with mosaic is possible. The aesthetical effects that can be reached do not find almost any limit. Our artists will be able to fulfill your needs. Š copyright Demetz Art Studio All right reserved
