Sunday June 10th Join Del Rio for this fun & educational wine club party. This year we will be providing a technical course on wine tasting and varietal education taught by our winemaker, Jean-Michel Jussiaume. The course will conclude with the Golden Nose Competition and a winner will be crowned with bragging rights for another year. Be sure to purchase your tickets early! Complimentary wine club pick up to follow.

Join the Del Rio team this summer as we bring together wonderful gourmet food and our exquisite wines in the romantic setting of the Del Rio Vineyard. You will be surrounded by the beautiful vines as you dine on food prepared by the Jacksonville Inn and sip wine from the very vines with which you dine. It is essential for the understanding of a terroir, to be able to taste your current vintage against the previous ones. This pleasant exercise helps me appreciate the quality of my winemaking and foresee the improvements to be made in the future. In addition, wine longevity is an excellent indication of the grape’s quality and winemaker’s skill. Tasting through a flight of Pinot Gris, I am extremely pleased to see that with age the wine gains weight and depth without losing its freshness. June Recipes - Veggie Delights for Summer Grilled Eggplant Ingredients 4 Servings 1 large eggplant 3 large tomatoes, to match the diameter of the eggplant 0.4 lbs Bulgarian feta, crumbled 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves juice of half lemon 2 garlic cloves ½ extra-virgin olive oil Kosher salt Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Directions Cut the eggplant crosswise into ½” thick rounds. Lightly season them with salt and leave them for 30 minutes on a side to let the water come out of the eggplant. Once ready drizzle some olive oil on top of each slice and grill them on a lightly oiled grill rack for 2 -3 minutes each side. Blend the basil leaves with 4 tablespoons olive oil, lemon slice,2 garlic cloves and 1 teaspoon salt in an emersion blender until smooth. Cut the tomatoes crosswise to 1/4” thick rounds. Lightly oil the baking pan. Arrange 4 eggplant rounds side by side. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of the basil-garlic mixture on top of each one, then generously sprinkle feta crumbs. Top each with tomato rings. Add another layer of eggplant, basil spread, feta and tomato rounds and top with the rest of the crumbled feta. Preheat the oven to 400F. Drizzle some olive oil on top of each stack and bake for 15 minutes.

Asparagus Gruyere Tart Ingredients

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. On a floured surface, roll the puff pastry into a 16-by-10-inch rectangle. Trim uneven edges. Place pastry on a baking sheet. With a sharp knife, lightly score pastry dough 1 inch in from the edges to mark a rectangle. Using a fork, pierce dough inside the markings at 1/2-inch intervals. Bake until golden, about 15 minutes. Flour, for work surface 1 sheet frozen puff pastry 5 1/2 ounces (2 cups) Gruyere cheese, shredded 1 1/2 pounds medium or thick asparagus 1 tablespoon olive oil Salt and pepper

Remove pastry shell from oven, and sprinkle with Gruyere. Trim the bottoms of the asparagus spears to fit crosswise inside the tart shell; arrange in a single layer over Gruyere, alternating ends and tips. Brush with oil, and season with salt and pepper. Bake until spears are tender, 20 to 25 minutes.

With an amazing combination of great people, amazing wines and a beautiful setting, I am extremely happy to join the Del Rio team as Brand Manager. I’m truly proud to represent the winery’s portfolio and looking forward to expanding our presence throughout the U.S. I bring over 15 years of wine experience to Del Rio and have worked in both the distributor and supplier arenas in various sales management roles. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science degree while lettering in varsity baseball for four years. I have two incredible children that I adore and I enjoy running, hiking, traveling and eating great food. I am a recent Oregon transplant and am constantly amazed at the grandeur the state offers, both in wine country and otherwise. My current favorite wine is the 2010 Del Rio Pinot Gris that seems to pair perfectly with just about everything!
