Delamode News The newsletter for Delamode employees | Issue 3

All the latest news from across the Delamode Group

Message from the Chairman and Group CEO Time is flying by with this being the third edition of the Delamode newsletter. It is very encouraging to see the developments within the business as reported from edition to edition, despite the tough economic conditions across Europe. We have experienced lots of challenges over recent months, not least with the weather conditions, particularly in the Balkan regions, making transport operations very difficult. The wet conditions in the UK has also affected retail sales, which subsequently drives lots of other business sectors and of course the banking crisis is making it ever more difficult for our customers and suppliers in all countries. With this in mind, credit control features very highly within all business units. Fortunately, we

have good credit control colleagues across the group and are managing well what would otherwise be a very challenging situation. What’s more, it is important that we provide support by working within our credit control polices and offering assistance to our colleagues in resolving queries that might delay payments. We would like to welcome a number of new colleagues who have joined Delamode across the Group and congratulate many of you for the good performances, some of which are illustrated in this edition. As always, we would like to thank you for your input with this newsletter and hope that those of you that have yet to contribute will do so in future editions.

The contract will also soon be extended to include factory collections and export services to Hungary.

OBI praises service levels during difficult conditions Earlier in the year Romania was faced with some of the most severe weather conditions that the country had seen in recent times. In spite of the extremely low temperatures and constant snowfall the Delamode team operating the OBI Romania logsitcs contract were highly praised for the efficient operation of the company’s Far East imports, especially during the period of

tretious weather conditions. The main objective for me is to manage groupage consignments from Italy to Lithuania. The office has a great atmosphere and there are many opportunities to help me improve in my role.” What keeps you busy outside Delamode? “ I enjoy relaxing and like visiting the countryside when the weather is nice, I will often take a good book along with me. My favourite author is Mario Puzo - I have his whole collection. Like most Lithuanians I am an avid basketball fan and often play with friends. Unfortunately at the moment I do not have much time to play because all my free time is spent writing my bachelors paper. ”

Due to the natural growth of the business the company is quickly outgrowing their current premises and has decided to relocate to a new office in the city of Vilnius. As part of the process a new distribution and collection partner has been appointed. This enables Delamode Baltics to offer its customers an enhanced and highly reliable national service that includes 24hr distribution throughout Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

In this issue we take a look at the Forwarding team in the UK who are amongst the consistently top performing departments within the Delamode Group of companies. The Delamode UK freight forwarding department was originally formed in June 2008, starting with 2 members of staff. The initial role of the department was to develop non-core services for the business. Four years later the department has significantly evolved and offers global transport solutions for road, air, sea and rail customers. Managed by Mark Mitcham, the department consists of a further 4 staff members Ewelina Maskell, Monika Langstaff and Eunice Parrack. To support the growing department Jade Desmond has also recently joined the team, providing administrative support duties - “welcome to Delamode Jade”. Each employee bringing to the department their own unique expertise and experience in freight forwarding. As part of the department’s function it provides comprehensive expertise in full load and part load services, groupage, express transport, out of gauge, ADR cargo, customs, cross-trade, pick & pack and project work solutions. In the next issue the focus will be on the Groupage Department in Romania....

The team is also extremely diverse and supports other Delamode departments with the procurement of equipment, as well as offering help and advice where required ” said Mark Mitcham on the strengths of the department. The department has also formed similar collaborative relationships with its suppliers, which helps play a vital role in ensuring that Delamode offers a first class service to its customers at all times. “ Despite the current economic situation we have a pleasing number of promising opportunities in the pipeline and if they come into fruition will aid with the future development of the department. This is very encouraging and makes me look positively towards the future as I can see the forwarding department going from strength to strength during 2012 and beyond ” added Mark Mitcham on the future aspirations of the department.

Delamode Balkans exhibits at Beotruck event Delamode Balkans recently jointly exhibited with DKV Euro Service at the 50th International Beotruck fair in Serbia. Beotruck is the leading commercial truck fair in Serbia and is held every two years. The event was seen as the ideal platform to launch the services of the newly formed company and provided a good opportunity to promote our association with DKV as their official partner for Serbia, Montengro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the week-long event the team worked extremely hard in networking with delegates, whilst also exploring new business opportunities. We also opted to have a strong brand presence at the event to help increase the profile of Delamode Balkans – this included branded flags, flyers, marketing materials, promotional items and also a 7m x 5m billboard advertising the services of Delamode and the DKV Card, this will be situated at the venue for a 6 month period. To help entice visitors to our stand we held a business card draw, offering a top of the range 42” LCD TV as the winning prize. The winning business card was drawn out on the last of the day of the event by the General Manager of the Serbian Transport Association, a special VIP attending the event.

Delamode trailer plays starring role in Channel 4 series Once again a Delamode trailer has been used as the main prop in the production of a TV programme. On this occasion the Delamode branded trailer appeared frequently in an episode of ‘The increasingly poor decisions of Todd Margaret’, a Channel 4 British / American sitcom. The sitcom is about American, Todd Margaret, who bluffs his way into an apparently great job opportunity, heading up the sales team in his employer's London office. All he has to do is sell several thousand energy drinks before his boss arrives. This should be simple, apart from the fact that he knows nothing about British culture and nothing about sales. Matters are further complicated when he ends up lying continuously to cover his ignorance and spectacularly fails to impress Alice, the first beautiful girl he meets, while Dave, his British co-worker, takes full advantage of Todd's situation. Todd's increasingly poor decisions frequently land him in big trouble, offending the majority of the British population and a great sporting institution along the way.

Delamode Bulgaria service updates....

8

New Turkish partner….

Spanish line performing well….

Regular service to Germany....

In February the company commenced a weekly groupage service from Turkey with its new partner, Hilal Trans. The trucks are loaded in Istanbul for shipments destined for Bulgaria and other European countries. The service also includes express van shipments with timed deliveries.

The Spanish groupage line has now been operating for over 1 year and is proving to be very successful. At present Delamode Bulgaria has 1 truck leaving Spain a week, with this likely to increase in the near future due to the regular traffic and good service levels achieved.

Despite strong competition Delamode Bulgaria has established a regular service to and from Germany and Belgium, a service that has now been in operation for 18 months.

The competition for traffic from Turkey to Bulgaria is extremely high, however the team are confident that the service will increase further and are working hard on developing the line.

The Spanish partner has also proven to be extremely flexible and can be relied upon to find a solution whenever a difficult situation arises.

On average 2-3 groupage trucks are being achieved on the import (Germany/Belgium to Bulgaria) and export lines (Bulgaria to Germany/Belgium). Working with their nominated IFA partner the company are working hard to develop these lines further.
