variety of models of multivariate modulated Markov price processes. The principal novelty of presented results is based on consideration of multivariate modulated Markov price processes and general pay-off functions, which can depend not only on price but also an additional stochastic modulating index component, and use of minimal conditions of smoothness for transition probabilities and pay-off functions, compactness conditions for log-price processes and rate of growth conditions for pay-off functions. The volume presents results on structural studies of optimal stopping domains, Monte Carlo based approximation reward algorithms, and convergence of American type options for autoregressive and continuous time models, as well as results of the corresponding experimental studies.

Global Affine Differential Geometry of Hypersurfaces

This book draws a colorful and widespread picture of global affine hypersurface theory up to the most recent state. Moreover, the recent development revealed that affine differential geometry - as differential geometry in general - has an exciting intersection area with other fields of interest, like partial differential equations, global analysis, convex geometry and Riemann surfaces (in the complex- analytic sense). The d-bar Neumann Problem and Schrödinger Operators

The topic of this book is located at the intersection of complex analysis, operator theory and partial differential equations. First we investigate the canonical solution operator to d-bar restricted to Bergman spaces of holomorphic L2 functions in one and several complex variables. These operators are Hankel operators of special type. In the following we consider the general d-bar-complex and derive properties of the complex Laplacian on L2 spaces of bounded pseudoconvex domains and on weighted L2 spaces. The main part is devoted to compactness of the d-bar-Neumann operator. The last part will contain a detailed account of the application of the d-bar-methods to Schrödinger operators, Pauli and Dirac operators and to WittenLaplacians. Higher Smoothness in Banach Spaces

Nonlinear Second Order Elliptic Equations Involving Measures

Krichever–Novikov Type Algebras

This book is about the subject of higher smoothness in separable real Banach spaces. It brings together several angles of view on polynomials, both in finite and infinite setting. Also a rather thorough and systematic view of the more recent results, and the authors work is given. The book revolves around two main broad questions: What is the best smoothness of a given Banach space, and its structural consequences? How large is a supply of smooth functions in the sense of approximating continuous functions in the uniform topology, i.e. how does the Stone-Weierstrass theorem generalize into infinite dimension where measure and compactness are not available? The subject of infinite dimensional real higher smoothness is treated here for the first time in full detail, therefore this book may also serve as a reference book. Petr Hájek, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague, Czech Republic; Michal Johanis, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.

This book presents a comprehensive study of boundary value problems for linear and semilinear second order elliptic equations with measure data, especially semilinear equations with absorption. The interactions between the diffusion operator and the absorption term give rise to a large class of nonlinear phenomena in the study of which singularities and boundary trace play a central role. Moshe Marcus, Technion, Haifa, Israel; Laurent Véron, Université François Rabelais, Tours, France.    Keywords Elliptic equations; Boundary trace; Singularities; Large solutions; Subcritical nonlinearity Language English Date of publication 4th quarter 2013

Theory and Applications

Krichever and Novikov introduced certain classes of infinite dimensional Lie algebras to extend the Virasoro algebra and its related algebras to Riemann surfaces of higher genus. The author of this book generalized and extended them to a more general setting needed by the applications. Examples of  applications are Conformal Field Theory, Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten models, moduli space problems, integrable systems, Lax operator algebras, and deformation theory of Lie algebra. Furthermore they constitute an important class of infinite dimensional Lie algebras which due to their geometric origin are still manageable. This book gives an introduction for the newcomer to this exciting field of ongoing  research in mathematics and will be a valuable source of reference for the experienced researcher. Beside the basic constructions and results also applications are presented.

Splitting Schemes

A Concise Dictionary

Applied mathematical modeling is concerned with solving unsteady problems. This book shows how to construct additive difference schemes to solve approximately unsteady multi-dimensional problems for PDEs. Two classes of schemes are highlighted: methods of splitting with respect to spatial variables (alternating direction methods) and schemes of splitting into physical processes. Also regionally additive schemes (domain decomposition methods) and unconditionally stable additive schemes of multi-component splitting are considered for evolutionary equations of first and second order as well as for systems of equations. The book is written for specialists in computational mathematics and mathematical modeling. All topics are presented in a clear and accessible manner.

Algebraic geometry has a complicated, difficult language. This book contains a definition, several references and the statements of the main theorems (without proofs) for every of the most common words in this subject. Some terms of related subjects are included. It helps beginners that know some, but not all, basic facts of algebraic geometry to follow seminars and to read papers. The dictionary form makes it easy and quick to consult.

Nonlinear Systems with Stochastic Fluctuations

Planar Dynamical Systems

Spherical and Plane Integral Operators for PDEs

Together with Higher Education Press

Together with Science Press

This book considers some typical nonlinear dynamical systems with various random noises. It presents the reviews about nonlinear and stochastic dynamics, with some historic background and recent developments. Theoretical and numerical approaches will be carried out for some typical nonlinear dynamical systems. It is written with a wide audience in mind and presents basic techniques for readers to learn and investigate stochastic dynamics. This book serves as a reference book or textbook for students and researchers in mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology and social sciences, and other professionals who are interested in the subject and help them quickly get into the field and ready for studies.

This book presents in an elementary way the recent significant developments in the qualitative theory of planar dynamical systems. The subjects are covered as follows: the studies of center and isochronous center problems, multiple Hopf bifurcations and local and global bifurcations of the equivariant planar vector fields which concern with Hilbert‘s 16th problem. This book is intended for graduate students, post-doctors and researchers in the area of theories and applications of dynamical systems. For all engineers who are interested the theory of dynamical systems, it is also a reasonable reference. It requires a minimum background of an one-year course on nonlinear differential equations.

The book presents integral formulations for partial differential equations, with the focus on spherical and plane integral operators. The integral relations are obtained for different elliptic and parabolic equations, and both direct and inverse mean value relations are studied. The derived integral equations are used to construct new numerical methods for solving relevant boundary value problems, both deterministic and stochastic based on probabilistic interpretation of the spherical and plane integral operators.

Brownian Motion

Elements of Partial Differential Equations

Kompendium der Diskreten Mathematik

An Introduction to Stochastic Processes

With contrib. by Björn Böttcher

Stochastic processes occur everywhere in sciences and engineering, and need to be understood by applied mathematicians, engineers and scientists alike. This is a first course introducing the reader gently to the subject. Brownian motions are a stochastic process, central to many applications and easy to treat. René L. Schilling and Lothar Partzsch, Dresden University of Technology, Germany.    Keywords Markov process; Transition semigroups; Brownian paths; Strassen’s functional law of the iterated logarithm; Skorokhod representation; Stochastic integrals; Itô’s formula; Stochastic differential equations Language English Date of publication 2nd quarter 2014

De Gruyter Textbook 2nd revised and extended edition

This book presents a first introduction to PDEs on an elementary level, enabling the reader to understand what partial differential equations are, where they come from and how they can be solved. The intention is that the reader understands the basic principles which are valid for particular types of PDEs and learns some classical methods to solve them, thus the authors restrict their considerations to fundamental types of equations and basic methods. Only basic facts from calculus and linear ordinary differential equations of first and second order are needed as a prerequisite. The book is addressed to students who intend to specialize in mathematics as well as to students of physics, engineering, and economics. Pavel Drábek and Gabriela Holubová, University of West Bohemia, Czech Republic.

Nonlinear Programming

Stochastik für das Lehramt

Zahlentheorie

An Introduction

[Stochastics for Teachers: For Study and Schools]

This book is an introduction to nonlinear programming, written for students from the fields of applied mathematics, engineering, economy, computation etc. It deals with theoretical foundations as well as solution methods, beginning with the classical procedures and reaching up to “modern” methods. Several examples, exercises with detailed solutions and applications are provided, making the text adequate for individual studies.

Keywords Optimality conditions; Convex opti-

mization; Linear and quadratic constraints; Penalty

Students of the teaching profession view stochastics as difficult to understand and complex. This book provides a clear, precise, and structured introduction to this material. It includes many descriptive examples, such as games of chance, which help promote understanding. Thus, the textbook is not only an ideal accompaniment to courses as an introduction to probability theory, but also optimally useful for designing a clear school curriculum.

Geophysical Modelling of the Polar Motion

Polar motion is an important geophysical process, and difficult to understand given the various parameters involved. But it is of key importance to our climate and climate change. Understanding and modeling also has implications on key technologies such as space geodesy and satellite navigation. Additionally, long term polar motion has close links to decadal climate change and ice cap development. It also reflects the global circulation in the hydroatmospheric layers and the internal properties of the Earth. Therefore the topic is of primary interest for geophysics as well as climatology. Non-perturbative Effective Interactions in the Standard Model

For an adequate description of real physics nonperturbative effects are inevitable. This book explains how these effects may be obtained in the framework of spontaneous generation of effective interactions. The method is based on N.N. Analysis of Fracture Mechanics in Graded Materials Together with Higher Education Press

Mechanical responses of solid materials are governed by their material properties. The solutions for estimating and predicting the mechanical responses are extremely difficult, in particular for non-homogeneous materials. Among these, there is a special type of materials whose properties are variable only along one direction, defined as graded materials or functionally graded materials (FGMs). Examples are plant stems and bones. Artificial graded materials are widely used in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, biological engineering, and electronic engineering. This work covers and develops boundary element methods (BEM) to investigate the properties of realistic graded materials. This book is a must have for practitioners and researchers in materials science, both academic and in industry. Optofluidics systems technology

The Rocket into Planetary Space

At the cross-roads of biology, microfluidics and photonics the field of optofluidics allows for quick and compact solutions for medical and biochemical sensing and manipulation. This book is concerned with the ingredients for a polymer-based platform which is able to culture and pattern life cells for a sufficient period of time, enables the integration of photonic devices, and provides means to integrate electronic readout.

For all being interested in astronautics, this translation of Hermann Oberth’s classic work is a truly historic event. Readers will be impressed with this extraordinary pioneer and his incredible achievement. In a relatively short work of 1923, Hermann Oberth laid down the mathematical laws governing rocketry and spaceflight, and he offered practical design considerations based on those laws.

[Basic Concepts of Physics: With Insights for Humanists] Mit Einblicken für Geisteswissenschaftler

Dominik Rabus, Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, Ingelfingen, Germany.

Hermann Oberth (1894 –1989) is being considered one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics.

This book aims to span the cultural differences separating the humanities from the natural sciences. In his exposition, the author goes well beyond the typical level found in popular science presentations. There is a separate chapter devoted to the mathematical fundamentals needed for understanding many concepts in physics.

The theory of relativity is among the most familiar theories in all of physics. Although its direct implications for our daily lives are practically negligible, it has continued to generate great fascination. This book offers readers with an interest in physics and basic knowledge of higher mathematics a lucid and understandable pathway to understanding the theory of general relativity. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Holger Göbel, Helmut-SchmidtUniversität, Hamburg

High Energy Particle Astrophysics

[Laser Physics: Physical principles of laser light and its interactions with matter]

Bearb. v./Rev by Christopher Witte, Martin Diestelhorst Übers. v./Transl. by Kurt Müller

High Energy Astrophysics is one of the hottest topics in astrophysics & astronomy. It studies processes in objects that release very energetic radiation (e.g. X-ray, gamma). The goal is to understand the very structure of matter, the development of stars, and the fate of the universe itself. The book is based on a tested lecture and has a focus on experiments and observations. A modular structure allows to adapt it to individual courses‘ needs.

The German translation of this classic of theoretical physics is now available in a further revised edition. This renders theoretical electrodynamics even more  comprehensible than before. Unique to this textbook of electrodynamics are the incomparably large number of calculated examples and special cases and the many exercises at the end of each chapter. John David Jackson, University of California, Berkeley, USA; Kurt Müller, Technische Fachhochschule, Berlin; Christopher Witte, Technische Universität, Berlin; Martin Diestelhorst, Martin-Luther-Universität HalleWittenberg, Halle (Saale).

To reach a deeper understanding of laser physics, this textbook carefully reviews the necessary basic principles of classical electrodynamics and quantum mechanics. Understanding the subject matter is facilitated by highlighting specific examples and through brief summaries. The 2nd edition includes additional exercises with complete solutions, assuring optimal exam preparation. [Thermodynamics: From Dewdrops to Solar Power Plants]

This graduate textbook covers contemporary directions of non-equilibrium statistical mechanics as well as classical methods of kinetics. With one of the main propositions being to avoid terms such as „obviously“ and „it is easy to show“, this treatise is an easy-to-read introduction into this traditional, yet vibrant field. H. M. Bikkin, Institute of Metal Physics, Ekatarinburg, Russia. I. I. Lyapilin, Institute of Metal Physics, Ekatarinburg, Russia.    Keywords Non-equilibrium thermodynamics, Kinetics, Statistical mechanics Language English Date of publication 1st quarter 2014

Readers especially value this textbook because of its well-balanced didactic design. It provides easily understandable explanations of the mathematics of wave motion and detailed coverage of both classical and modern methods in optics. The author’s aim is to unify optics within the framework of a few general concepts, so students obtain a selfcontained and coherent picture of the field.

What is actually happening to that pork cutlet sizzling in the frying pan, or to the cauliflower in the pot? What are the physical and chemical processes that take place during heating? Being able to answer these questions is useful, and not only to improve our cooking. Becoming aware of the physics of cooking inevitably leads us to the actual aim of this book: understanding the laws of thermodynamics.

At long last, this volume offers a novel and understandable formulation of entropy, a key concept of thermodynamics. Traditional approaches to the derivation of entropy do not make it easy to comprehend this important dimension in thermodynamics. The Entropy Principle presents a significantly improved derivation and structured formulation of entropy that is well suited for basic university education.

[Constructive Software Architecture: The Conceptual Design of Usable and Modifiable Systems] Konzeptuelle Gestaltung gebrauchstauglicher und änderungsfreundlicher System

The aim of application development is software systems that are both usable and modifiable. To accomplish this requires a methodology that constructively links usability engineering with software engineering. In contrast to process-oriented approaches, the author adopts an architecture-based view and explores common architectural elements and a conceptual systems model for the realization and use of applications.    Schlagworte/Keywords Softwarearchitektur; Softwareentwicklung; Usability Engineering; Requirements Engineering / Software architecture; software development; usability engineering; requirements engineering Sprache/Language Deutsch/German Erscheinungstermin/Date of Publication  4.

Safety-critical, interactive, human-computer systems are used for real-time process control in large facilities, and in health care facilities. They monitor and control complex human and machine related processes. This title provides an interdisciplinary presentation of psychological, design, engineering, and cultural issues, as well as theories and models related to these new technologies. Prof. Dr. Michael Herczeg, Universität Lübeck    Schlagworte/Keywords Sicherheitskritische; Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion; Prozessführungssysteme; Echtzeitsysteme; Benutzerfreundlichkeit / Safety-critical human-machine interaction; process control systems; user friendliness; real-time systems Sprache/Language Deutsch/German Erscheinungstermin/Date of Publication  2. [SIP, TCP/IP, and Telecommunications Networks: Next Generation Networks and VoIP in Practice] Next Generation Networks und VoIP konkret

Test digitaler Schaltkreise [Testing Digital Circuits]

The main goal of this book is to impart rigorous theoretical and practical knowledge concerning NGN, VoIP, SIP, and modern telecommunications networks, as well as to highlight potential future developments. A unique feature of this book is a practice-based section that elucidates and expands the theoretical material on SIP and VoIP.

Embedded systems are assuming key control functions in everyday life. Systemic failure in the energy supply or the transport sector could lead to fatal consequences. Users place great reliance on the error-free function of such systems. Guaranteeing the functional capability of digital circuits is the goal of testing – and this aim must be achieved at low cost, since every chip has to be tested separately after production.

Mensch-MaschineInteraktion

[Computer Science and Society: A Sociological-Technical Perspective]

[Human-Machine Interaction]

The mountains of data in modern databases conceal undiscovered knowledge that can only be brought to light with the right tools. Data Mining seeks to provide methods and algorithms to uncover previously unknown connections. The book covers the material in a one-semester university or technical college course on data mining and is conceived as a classical textbook. It includes summaries, numerous examples, and practice exercises.

A networked information society generates complex interactions between information technology and society, which are the focus of a new interdisciplinary field presented in Computer Science and Society. The eleven chapters are designed to complement a university course on computer science and society. Learning objectives, examples, and review questions facilitate rapid and effective mastery of this future-oriented area of study.

This textbook is based on the lectures titled “Human-Machine Interaction” and includes four parts: Humans, Machines, Developmental Processes, and Kinds of Interaction. Unlike earlier media information technology textbooks, it is explicitly designed as a concise basic textbook. As a supplemental resource for lecturers, a website will be set up with visual materials, slides, and suggested practice exercises with sample solutions. Materials, Manufacturing and Engineering

From Principles to Industrial Production

Composite materials are engineered materials, made from two or more constituents with significantly different physical or chemical properties which remain separate on a macroscopic level within the finished structure. Due to their special mechanical and physical properties they have the potential to replace conventional materials in various fields such as the biomedical industry.

Metal Matrix Composites (MMC‘s) have found an increased use in various industries due to their special mechanical and physical properties. They are a composite material with at least two constituent parts, one being a metal and are made by dispersing a reinforcing material into a metal matrix.  The markets are: telecommunications, automotive, power semiconductor, opto-electronics, military and aerospace, heavy transportation, space systems and satellites, medical, and industrial lighting. Applications within these markets include microwave, micro-electronic packaging, laser diode, HBLED’s, and advanced radar.

Enantioselective or asymmetric catalysis is considered the supreme discipline in organic chemistry. It is widely used in modern laboratory synthesis and industrial production processes of bioactive molecules, e.g. pharmaceuticals. This book provides thorough knowledge for students, scientists and beginners in industry on all important aspects, from basic principles to industrial application.

Membrane Systems For Bioartificial Organs and Regenerative Medicine

The worldwide demand for organ transplants exceeds available donor organs by far. Understanding and controlling membrane material biocompatibility and transport phenomena currently opens new opportunities for the improvement of artificial organs (e.g., hemodialysis devices, hemofilters, blood oxygenator, etc.) and the design of bioartificial organs such as the bioartificial liver or pancreas. The book covers these topics and connects membrane systems to applications in regenerative medicine. Corrosion for Engineers

Basic Process Engineering Control

As a mature topic in chemical engineering, the book provides methods, problems and tools used in process control engineering. It discusses: process knowledge, sensor system technology, actuators, communication technology, and logistics, design and construction of control systems and their operation. The knowledge goes beyond the traditional process engineering field by applying the same principles, to biomedical processes, energy production and management of environmental issues. The book explains all the determinations in the „chemical systems“ or „process systems“, starting from the beginning of the processes, going through the intricate interdependency of the process stages, analyzing the hardware components of a control system and ending with the design of an appropriate control system for a process parameter or a whole process. The book is first addressed to the students and graduates of the departments of Chemical or Process Engineering. Second, to the chemical or process engineers in all industries or research and development centers, because they will notice the resemblance in approach from the system and control point of view, between different fields which might seem far from each other, but share the same control philosophy. Paul Serban Agachi and Mircea Vasile Cristea,Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is the most popular method for chemists to analyze molecular structures while Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive diagnostic tool for medical doctors that provides high-contrast images of biological tissue depicting the brain function and the beating heart. The book offers a basic introduction to NMR with portable devices, the equipment, the experimental set-up, types of NMR experiments, example applications, and data evaluation procedures. Each description follows the same didactic pattern: introduction, basic theory, pulse sequences and parameters, beginners-level measurements, advanced-level measurements, data processing. Mobile NMR simplified to approach the level of operating a smart phone! Our textbook provides an introduction to and an overview of the scientific principles of many metal corrosion problems. Besides a brief insight into thermodynamic, kinetic and biological fundamentals of corrosion phenomena, the corrosion mechanism in aqueous, atmospheric and biological conditions is presented. A major focus lies on the discussion of the influence on alloying elements, microstructures and surfaces on the corrosion properties. Our goal, understanding the design of corrosion resistant metals, enhances the ability of engineers and materials scientists to select appropriate materials for corrosive environments.
