Our State Charity Sarah Sellers began her term as elected State Sweetheart at Convention 2015 with a goal of raising $6,000 to donate to Pennsylvania DeMolay’s State Charity, the Children’s Dyslexia Centers. To help accomplish this goal she created an incentive for the members called “This or That.” Each month Sarah would come up with two or more related things which chapters could vote for via donation. An example is Batman, Superman, and Howard the Duck as pictured.

Great work Sarah!

As of June 1, 2016 nearly $8,000 has been raised! Another large charity event held this year was the Elizabethtown DeMolay hosted Dodgeball for Dyslexia tournament. Seven teams competed while raising money for the State Charity with the total amount coming out to $1,025!

Daniel W. Shevalier Allentown Chapter

While the newly elected Master Councilor is the only one qualified to apply for and achieve the award, he cannot do it alone. The requirements can only be met through the combined efforts of the entire Chapter. The Master Councilor must provide the leadership to inspire his fellow DeMolays toward a well-rounded program.

Representative DeMolay “Dad” Land’s goal was for every DeMolay to be a Representative DeMolay, not merely by holding the award, but by living in such a way as to make the Order proud to call you its own. And, because of your own effort and time, you can be proud to wear the title and insignia of this award.

HODEGOS Award “Mom” Jean Richards has provided outstanding service to Chester Pike Chapter as an advisor for 14 years, and has been selected by the PA Masonic Youth Foundation to receive the Grand Lodge’s HODEGOS Award for 2016. “Mom” Richards, who holds the DeMolay International Cross of Honor, has been serving as the Acting Advisory Council Chairman for Chester Pike Chapter for ten years. “Mom” Jean Richards

The HODEGOS Award was introduced by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania in 2005 as a way to recognize youth group adult leaders who have a minimum of 7 years of devoted service to their organization. Active youth group members, advisors and Executive Officer Leadership Team volunteers complete a nomination form and provide letters of recommendation that are reviewed by the committee. A maximum of 6 recipients are chosen per year. Complete details for making nominations are available on the PMYF Webpage.

Sponsored By:

“Dad” Dave Berry Executive Secretary

“Dad” Jay W. Smith is greeted as a R.W. Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, an Honorary Member of DeMolay International, a HODEGOS Awardee and many, many other impressive titles, but perhaps the one most appreciated and cherished to him is “Dad” Smith, the title by which a small army of DeMolays have greeted him. “Dad” Smith, the recipient of the Guild of the Leather Apron in 2015, has been a DeMolay Advisor for over 30 years, first with Lancaster Chapter – where he served as both Chapter Advisor and Chairman – and most recently with Pennsylvania DeMolay. Pennsylvania DeMolay extends a warm welcome and hearty congratulations to “Dad” Smith on this very special and well deserved recognition.

What is DeMolay? DeMolay is an organization dedicated to preparing young men to lead successful, happy, and productive lives. Basing its approach on timeless principles and hands-on experience, DeMolay opens doors for young men aged 12 to 21 by developing the civic awareness, personal responsibility and leadership skills so vitally needed in society today. DeMolay combines this serious mission with a fun approach that builds important bonds of friendship among members in more than 1,000 chapters worldwide.

Seven Precepts of DeMolay Filial Love, Reverence for Sacred Things, Courtesy, Comradeship, Fidelity, Cleaness, Patriotism DeMolay members uphold high standards and principles. When joining DeMolay you will be asked to take vows and promises (called “obligations”) to live by these principles.

You’ll promise: To strive to be a good son. To be faithful to confidences and trusts placed in you. To live a clean and moral life. To love and serve God according to the teachings of your family’s faith tradition. To be a loyal and patriotic citizen, and to defend the interests of your country. To remember the example of Jacques DeMolay, and strive to be faithful and trustworthy in all your commitments. To be loyal and supportive to other DeMolay members. To honor and respect all women. To be tolerant and understanding in your opinions of others.
