Deborah Ann Allan PORTFOLIO ARCHITECTURE|PHOTOGRAPHY|DESIGN|GRAPHICS

Deborah Ann Allan Tel +44 [7920180662] debbie.allan00@gmail.com

[ Introduction ] While studying photography I developed an appreciation for the beauty of architecture and the way in which buildings posses the ability to have an impact on us on a daily basis – be it visually, atmospherically or emotionally. This admiration led me to study Architectural Technology, where I gained an insight into the construction, design processes and environmental considerations of a building and its surroundings.

[ Awards Received ]

[ Attributes ]

End of year prize winner for the class of 2010 Architectural Technology, chosen from a class of 30 students. The award was assessed on our end of year project. We were briefed with the design of a Community Arts Centre which had to meet building and planning regulations, producing all existing and proposed architectural drawings along with 3D models and supporting research information for the client.

During my academic and professional career I have had the opportunity to work on a number of projects with a broad spectrum of people. This has allowed me not only to develop and hone my interpersonal skills, but also given me the confidence and ability to describe complex concepts to a wider audience. Through many years of dealing with customers, over the phone as well as face-toface, I find it easy to develop a rapport with clients and colleagues. Moreover, I am a well organized person, this helps me stay focused during periods of increased workload and manage my workload effectively, making me receptive and adaptable to change.

Brief: Glasgow is a City which is renowned for it’s Architecture, Character and Artistic flare. Having produced and still sharing with the world it’s great artists. This is why in partnership with Glasgow City Council you are to design a Contemporary Arts Centre, which will act as a community hub for all generations of Glaswegians. Bringing the cities fresh new talents into the creative arts spotlight across Europe. Your client has briefed that the Contemporary Art Centre should house a Library, Cafe, Dance Studios, Theatre and exhibition space, acting as a through way to the Burrell Collection in Pollock Park where your site has been prepared ready for foundations to be laid. Make Glasgow your city. *Note all designs must meet building regulations

geothermal power is, power which is extracted from heat stored in the earth.

04

By linking a heat pump to pipes placed underground, the energy stored underground can be harhar nessed to heat or cool a building. A heat pump is a device which moves heat from one area to another. This means that it is possible to move heat energy from a lower temperature enviroment, such as the ground, to a higher temperature enviroment, such as inside a building. This means heat can be extracted from the gound and moved into a building, for example by attaching the heat pump to an underfloor heating system .

Exhibition Photography

In connection with members of my Advanced Diploma Photography Class, we held a Photography exhibition in Merchant City Square, Glasgow. All areas of the exhibition were thoroughly researched and organised by us as a team and as a result the exhibition was extended from a two week period to over a month. We received credit from the professional Photography body and Glaswegian press reviews. This piece I created to demonstrate that not everything should be taken for granted and is not as it may seem. Outwith its natural environment a different message can be perceived through a form and tool of daily communication. All television images were shot on location with Medium Format Film the screen messages were shot on 35mm film and are live screen shots of broadcasted news reports.

Fine Art Photography

Currently I am exploring Street Art culture, these are images on display daily and passed by, by thousands of people in some cases going un-noticed or appreciated. The expression and creation of each holds a message from the artist that should also communicate to the individual viewing it.

Landscape & Architectural Photography

I spend days roaming Cities studying the architecture of the buildings capturing the symmetry and layout of the structures looking at how they impose on the people below and tell a detailed historic story of Architecture from past and current times.
