Our mission is to provide an opportunity to support the Museum through: promoting the Museum and its programs, diversifying the Museum's membership, and leading the next generation of Museum supporters. A portion of the proceeds from the Artist of the Year SoirĂŠe goes toward the Contemporaries' Art Acquisition Fund, designed to acquire a significant piece of art for the Museum.

A WARD S

Robert Lange is a graduate of RISD and gallerist of Robert Lange Studios, in Charleston SC. He first specialized in realist painting, particularly of people, emphasizing narrative moments. In 2010 he opened his second gallery, RLS Gallery and his work became more surreal, following into the category of hyper-realism or surrealism. His most notable bodies of work Measure (2009) and Go (2010) were nationally recognized and internationally collected. Lange has been featured in numerous magazines, including the cover of American Art Collector and Art Magazine, and in New American Paintings.

Contemporaries’’ Artist of the Year (With Partnership From Anne And Alex Postic) $2,000

Karen Ann Myers is an artist, educator and curator. She received her MFA from Boston University and her BFA from Michigan State University. She is currently serving as the Executive Director at Redux Contemporary Art Center in Charleston, SC. In addition, Myers is an adjunct professor at the College of Charleston in the arts management department. She was instrumental in coordinating the Boston Young Contemporaries Exhibition, which has continued to be an annual exhibition at the 808 Gallery in Boston, MA. Myers has exhibited her work extensively throughout the country. Her paintings and prints exist nationally in private collections. Upcoming exhibitions include Dalton Gallery at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA.

JJ Ohlinger lives and works in Taylors, SC with his wife and fellow artist Darlene Fuhst. A graduate of the University of Georgia with a degree in Scientific Illustration, JJ is best known for his portrait work and exhibits on a regular basis throughout South Carolina and the Southeast. He is one of the founding members of CAFfeine: contemporary art forum and is active in the promotion of the visual arts throughout the state.

Wim Roefs is the owner of if ART Gallery in Columbia, S.C., an independent curator, art consultant and exhibition designer. He is the chairman of the board of Columbia’’s 701 Center for Contemporary Art and the organization’’s volunteer executive director. Roefs is a member of the Art in Transit Advisory Committee (ATAC) of the Charlotte (N.C.) Area Transit System (CATS), supervising the implementation of the light rail system’’s public art component. He teaches courses in contemporary art and African American art at the University of South Carolina Honors College. Roefs was the organizer of Columbia Open Studios 2007 & 2008. He has curated exhibits throughout South Carolina. Through his gallery, Roefs has published some 20 exhibition catalogues. As a free-lance writer, he has written articles about visual arts and artists for publications in the U.S.A. and Europe. Among his book chapters are ““Remembering Herbert Gentry”” in: Herbert Gentry: The Man –– The Master –– The Magic (Chicago/New York City: G.R. N’’Namdi Gallery Inc., 2008) and a chapter in a forthcoming book about South Carolina artist Leo Twiggs.

3 Amanda Ladymon Self Reflections

Brian J. Lang serves as Curator of Decorative Arts at the Columbia Museum of Art in Columbia, SC. In this capacity, Mr. Lang is responsible for the museum’’s collection of furniture, ceramics, glass, silver, and related objects. His particular area of specialty is early American decorative arts of the Federal period (1790-1830), with an emphasis on Chinese export porcelain. During his three year tenure at the museum, Mr. Lang has coordinated the reinstallation of the permanent collection galleries at the Columbia Museum of Art and has curated several critically acclaimed exhibitions, including Carolina Collects (2008), The Last Frontier of the Cotton Farmer: The Works of Merritt Mauzey (2008), ““Found Heaven””: The Lowcountry of Alfred Heber Hutty (2008), SC6: Six South Carolina Innovators in Clay (2010), and Taylor Made: The Art of Anna Heyward Taylor (2010). He is currently organizing an exhibition of the works of the Charleston-born, 19th century landscape artist, Louis Rémy Mignot.
