The Welland and Fonthill communities have proven time and again that we are communities who comes together to protect, love and support each other. December 17, 2016 will be another date for the citizens and these two communities to wrap their arms around the Brettell family as they plan to honour Emily Rose Brettell, her life, her legacy, her passion, and her memory. Emily passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, August 12, 2016. She had joyfully watched the Canadian Lightweight Women's 2x win their silver medal and was preparing for the Provincial Rowing Camp later that afternoon when her precious life slipped away from her (for medical reasons undetermined at this time). Emily was an outstanding oarswoman who was respected and loved by her teammates and competitors alike for her abilities, attitude and awesome work ethic. She is a golden girl winning CSSRA 2x and Stotes 2x along with numerous other regattas along the way. She was the heart and soul of our team, and we will forever hold her dear and close to our hearts. She loved rowing, her ELC Rowing team and South Niagara Rowing club, her teammates and coaches, and of course her family and friends that supported her through every stroke. Friends of Emily Brettell, along with EL Crossley and South Niagara Rowing Club are hosting a charity hockey game at the Welland Arena on Saturday, December 17, 2016. Team Crossley vs Team Welland. Admission is $5.00 and tickets are now on sale. Also, raffle tickets are now available to try and win a framed and autographed Doug Gilmour HOF hockey jersey! Tickets are only $5 each or 3/$10!!! A raffle table is also in the works and we are asking any friends or family members who may be willing to donate a prize!!! Also, that night a 50/50 draw will take place. All monies raised will go towards Emily's legacy; her passion; a boat named in her honour… "Emily Rose" and high school scholarships named in her honour. Please contact Debbie Pine at 905 321 2261 if you can buy tickets, sell tickets or to donate anything!! Nothing to donate? That's ok, please plan to come out and support this memorial game! Better yet, challenge your whole team, class, or office to come out! What a better life lesson of the heart than community support and togetherness! Let's light the night blue and gold for Emily!
