THE engagement RING Prior to Official Engagement Announcement Choosing the Perfect Engagement Ring or Wedding Band for you or your Spouse.

 What type of metal you prefer

The wedding bands and engagement rings you choose will be one of the most enduring pieces of your wedding day. Not only are they an important element of becoming married, but they are also a long lasting symbol of your love and commitment.

 Whether you would consider a custom creation

Before you head to the jewellers, acquaint yourself with the finer points of diamonds, and most importantly the "4 Cs':  Carat: the overall weight of a diamond  Cut: the shape, cut, or proportions of the stone  Clarity: a measure of the amount and variety of flaws in a diamond  Colour: a measure of the colour of the stone. A "perfect" diamond is colourless INITIAL CONSULTATION WHAT TO BRING/KNOW:  Basic idea of style  Pictures of what you like  Whether you want matching or separate bands

 Whether you want gemstones and what kind

WHAT TO ASK: What type of ring(s) would be best for my lifestyle? Your occupation should influence this decision. For example, an electrician would want to consider a ceramic band because it does not conduct electricity. People with active lifestyles might want to avoid silver, which is the softest metal. Similarly, those that work extensively with their hands may want to consider getting an additional, inexpensive band solely to wear at work. How should I judge the value of a ring? The best cut reflects the maximum amount of light and gives the stone its brilliance. For diamonds, the less color a stone has, the higher its value. A stone’s clarity is affected by surface blemishes and interior inclusions, which interfere with light passage and lower its value. Finally, carats, or the measure of a stone’s weight, will influence the stone’s value.

DID YOU know? Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a sixpence in your shoe… What does it mean? “SOMETHING OLD”

Wearing something belonging to her family represents alink to the bride’s family. Most of the time the bride wears a piece of family jewelry or her mother’s or grandmother’swedding dress. “SOMETHING NEW” Wearing something new helps bring good fortune and success to the bride’s new life. The wedding dress, if new, fills this requirement admirably.

“SOMETHING BORROWED” Wearing something worn previously by a happy bridebrings the new bride happiness in her marriage. Borrow apiece of jewelry, a handkerchief or part of your weddingattire from a married friend. “SOMETHING BLUE” This tradition dates back to biblical times when blue stoodfor purity and fidelity. In times past the entire dress wasblue, then it became a blue band on the hem. Today, mostbrides wear blue in their garter to satisfy this tradition. • First Class Gourmet Cuisine

DESTINATION weddings & HONEYMOONS Travel agents are essential when planning destination weddings. They can arrange the wedding date, time, and transportation details. They will also coordinate the trip for all your guests by getting passports, visas, and other paperwork in order. Your travel agent can help make your wedding an event you will never forget! HONEYMOON The honeymoon is the beginning of your new life as husband and wife. Where you start this new adventure depends on your likes, dislikes, dreams, budget and time constraints. If you want to travel further afield, a professional travel agent is indispensable. Whether you know the exact location of the honeymoon destination or just want to head somewhere warm, travel agents can help make sure the honeymoon plans are a dream vacation come true. These experts

can help you decide what the perfect destination may be and handle every little detail so you can relax and enjoy being together! One thing all travel agents stress is making reservations as far in advance as possible, especially if a certain destination is in mind. The best rates and best chances for availability sometimes come months in advance. For the couple that has everything, consider signing up for a honeymoon registry. Couples can register for things they want while on their honeymoon (candlelit dinner on the beach, wine tastings, massages, transportation, etc.) or they can set a dollar amount. Then, guests can purchase different items, services or excursions for the couple. With the unlimited options available for honeymoon plans, plan to take time for yourselves and enjoy the start of your new life together.

WEDDINGS Couples in the know call us before they go!

What is the facility’s capacity? It should comfortably accommodate the number of guests you expect to attend. Is there a room available for the bride to use? If you want to get ready at the facility instead of the salon or at home, make sure there is a sizeable, well lit place to do so. Will you schedule more than one wedding for our date? If so, you want to ensure they will give your wedding the proper care and attention it deserves. Can we see a picture of the facility set up for a wedding? It is even better if you can you stop by a wedding in progress to preview the facility in action. Are there restrictions on what we can do to decorate? Sometimes facilities have restrictions on the use of candles and other decorations. Most commonly there are restrictions on what can be used for the send-off (e.g., rice). Are you planning on any remodels or renovations before our wedding? You don’t want to plan for one color scheme and find the carpet and walls are completely different than you expected. What is the rental fee? Find out what is included, how much the deposit is, and when the balance is due. How many hours are included in the rental agreement? Sometimes there are a set number of hours and facilities will charge for each additional hour. Where should the musicians set up?

A Proud Memeber of

1-800-956-7899 • www.roblintravel.com How is accessibility? Check out the parking situation to make sure they have enough for your size event and that it is conveniently available. Also make sure the facility is handicap accessible if necessary. Additional Questions for Outdoor Facilities Does the site have any restrictions? Each local park has its particular rules and regulations. Make sure to find out well in advance which ones apply to your event. Is there restroom accessibility? Even if there is accessibility, the restrooms may not be suitable for your affair. Portable restrooms now come equipped with the latest amenities. Units are clean and can come with flushing toilets, sinks, mirrors and lights, providing all the conveniences of an indoor facility outdoors. Is there an alternate option in case of inclement weather? If there are extreme weather conditions you will need to have a back up plan. Do we need power?

Make sure the space properly accommodates your musicians and that they have access to electricity. Also verify that the dance floor is large enough to accommodate your number of guests.

If you’re setting up lighting, a sound system, or have live music, you may need to set up a generator in order to have access to electricity.

Is there a wedding coordinator on staff that will be there the entire time?

Does the facility provide necessities such as chairs, sound system, awnings, tents, restrooms, etc., or will you need to rent your own?

You will want the person you have been dealing with to be there the whole time to make things run smoothly. Who is in control of the sound system? Find out if your facility has someone to man the sound booth or if you need to provide your own professional.

What rentals will I need?

What will the site look like when we get married? The appearance of outdoor sites can change dramatically with the season. Find out what will be blooming, how they manicure the property, and if they have pictures to give you a better idea of what to expect.

Catering INITIAL CONSULTATION WHAT TO BRING/KNOW: ¨ Wedding date ¨ Venue ¨ Number of guests on your invite list ¨ Timeline of the day ¨ Recipes you want included ¨ Need for special meals (e.g., kids menu, vegan, allergen-free, etc.)

Who cleans up the room afterwards? Find out if this is something you, the caterer, or your reception facility is responsible for.

WHAT TO ASK: Will you schedule more than one wedding for our date? Most caterers can easily accommodate more than one event, but obtain confirmation your wedding will receive the attention it requires.

How far do you travel? Companies work within a certain radius, and charge an extra fee for outside that radius which includes the extra mileage and labor for each staff member.

Do you charge for extra services?

What is included in the price?

Find out if the chairs, tables, linens and glassware are included. Often there is an extra charge for cake cutting and alcohol service.

Catering services often offer a variety of packages with different service options: higher end packages for formal services that include china dishes; environmentally friendly packages for couples wanting biodegradable, disposable dishes; etc.

How many staff will be there? This largely depends on what style of dinner you serve. Do you feed the DJ, photographer, band or do I need to include in count? Typically the bride and groom should include vendors in the overall head count.

Will there be a coffee station or pot of coffee on table? Will there be ice water? Have your caterer walk through every last detail with you.

What are payment terms?

Will the person I’ve been working with be at our wedding?

Make sure you know deadlines and amounts due.

Make sure you meet the person who will be on site.

wedding reception..

What do you remember the most about a wedding? Generally speaking, the answer to that question would be the bridal dress and what we ate. So, you might as well tempt the taste buds of your guests, creating a menu filled with the best of you and your region. 1. Caterer Recommendations - Talk to your caterer. Are there particular dishes that they’re known for, or that they recommend? If you’re catering your own wedding, what recipes are always a crowd-pleaser? Make sure they’re aware of the budget you’ve set. 2. Offer variety - Choose both stationery and passed hors d’oeuvres, as well as both hot and cold ones. 3. Special Touches - Ask your caterer if they can incorporate an old family recipe. Your guests will enjoy this personal touch. 4. Personal Preferences - Make sure you include foods that you love. Enjoying your wedding day is a priority, and it will help to make your menu personal. 5. Heritage Incorporate foods from your families’ heritages. Relatives and guests will bond over shared experiences. If your heritages are distinctly different cultures, consider featuring one during the cocktail hour and another during the meal. 6. Change Things Up - Think about going outside of a traditional menu. For example, some couples these days are opting for a dessert reception, rather than a traditional sit-down menu. 7. Ask to go for a tasting. You’ll have a chance to sample the foods. 8. Be a Considerate Host - Ask your caterer what dietary options are available. Generally today’s couples will want to offer non-red-meat fare, as well as a vegetarian option.

THE venue

¨ Are tables and chairs included in the rental fee? Linens? What is included?

¨ Is parking available? Is it paid or free?

¨ How early can you get in the building to decorate?

¨ Does the facility require insurance? Who is responsiblefor providing it?

¨ How early can the caterer arrive?

¨ Dance floor/music allowed? Is there a piano available?

¨ Do they have a list of approved caterers? ¨ What is available for use by the caterer? Is there anadditional fee? ¨ Is security required? ¨ What are the alcohol policies? ¨ Who is responsible for cleanup? When must the hall be cleaned? ¨ Can the facility cancel the date? If so, with what kind of notice? ¨ What are the payment options and arrangements? ¨ What are the setup policies?

¨ What hours do you have the facility? Is anything elsegoing on during the same time? ¨ Do they allow bubbles, confetti, rice, etc. to be thrownin/around the facility? Who is responsible for thecleanup? ¨ Are there any other restrictions?

Use your’s or family’s wedding china on the head table.

WHAT TO BRING/KNOW: ¨ Idea of budget ¨ Wedding date ¨ Wedding location (indoor, outdoor, church, barn, etc.) ¨ Wedding style (formal, casual, vintage, elegant, etc.) ¨ Number of bridesmaids ¨ Idea of colours WHAT TO ASK: Am I buying a custom fit? You are not shopping for just a dress, but a fit as well. Choose a shop that will make sure you look stunning in a perfectly fitted gown. Have you seen brides pulling up their strapless gowns throughout the day? That does not happen when properly fitted by professionals. Who will be doing the finish work and sewing? Find out if the shop does their own alterations or if they hire out the service.

The Perfect

Bridesmaid Dress

Elegance and comfort wrapped in style for the most important ladies in a Brides life Fits all shapes and sizes from 0-4x, with over 200 colours to choose from Emily Liebich 778-928-7360 emily@loveudesigns.com www.loveudesigns.com 32

Does the dress leave the shop? If the gown never leaves the shop, it will stay more pristine. If you or your shop work with an in-home seamstress ask about smoking and pets. When do they order the dress? Some shops may take the order but wait to put it through until closer to your wedding day. Make sure your gown will be ordered with plenty of time to spare. How will the dress look when picked up? Find out if the gown will be steamed or pressed, whether the shop takes steps to preserve the gown’s shape, and whether the dress bag will be roomy enough to prevent crushing.

If your bridesmaids come in many shapes and wear all different sizes, consider picking the color and fabric for the dresses and allow them to choose their own style. If un-identical dresses is not something you want, consider dresses in an A-line style which is flattering to all body types and sizes. You could also consider having your bridesmaids wear identical wraps.

Photography Long after your wedding day is over, your photographs will provide lasting memories. With that in mind, you not only need to find a photographer that you feel comfortable with but you also need to know what photo options are available and what shots should not be missed. No other vendor will have as lasting role in your wedding as your wedding photographer. INITIAL CONSULTATION WHAT TO BRING/KNOW: ¨ Tentative timeline of your day ¨ General idea of budget ¨ Style of photography you like ¨ How interactive you want your photographer to be (e.g., actively posing people or unobtrusively documenting) ¨ End products you are interested (album, portraits, book, digital files, etc.) WHAT TO ASK: Who will be my photographer? Make sure the person you meet and work with is the one who will be photographing your special day. Can we look at your sample albums, guest books, online galleries, etc? Look at the entire range of their work, especially for the products you plan on purchasing. Make sure the finalized product matches your style and that the images are sharp, well framed, and well lit. When do I get the digital files? Figure out how long their turnaround typically is, what recourse is available if you do not receive photos within the specified time frame, and whether you will see the photos before or after they have been touched up. 36

Will I have rights to the digital files? When you hire a photographer, you pay for the creation of the photography, not always the copyrights. If you are artistically inclined and want to create your own projects, find a photographer that will give you the rights. However, for most people, the kind of products they want created from their prints are so specialized that the majority return to their photographer anyway. What is the process for album design? Find out about your options, the turnaround time, the best way to choose photos, and all fees involved. How many weddings have you photographed? Talented new photographers join the industry every day, but when it comes to your wedding, you will want some one with enough of a history to be able to see prior work.

Photography Boudoir or intimate portrait photography is about women owning their bodies on their own terms and is a way for women to express a sexuality. Women should get to experience their beauty on their terms, exactly how they want. An intimate portrait session can be a great gift for your partner, but encourage clients to see this as an experience primarily for themselves. It is an investment in yourself, a means to express yourself, and a document of who you are for years to come. Without a doubt, you will hold on to and value the experience and the beautiful photos as a result, forever.

CHOOSING A Videographer

Who will be my videographer? Larger studios have multiple staff members. Make sure the person you meet and work with is the one who will be filming your special day. Can I see a wedding video in its entirety? Ask to see a complete wedding in a setting similar to yours. Look at examples of the types of products you are interested in. Check videos for clarity, steadiness, and attention to detail. Listen carefully to the quality of various sounds, from soft-spoken vows to the beat of dance music. Watch for transition from scene to scene and the use of special effects (if desired).

Have you worked with my photographer before? Though not a must, it is helpful if the two have worked together and are comfortable working within the same space.INITIAL CONSULTATION What to Bring/Know: • Tentative timeline of your day • General idea of budget • Style of videography you like • How interactive you want your videographer to be (e.g., actively interviewing people or

wedding Cake

The wedding cake is the star of the reception and the cutting of the cake is something guests eagerly look forward to as part of the festivities.

WHAT TO ASK Are there references you can contact?

Do you use fresh, high quality ingredients?

 Do you specialize in any flavour, style or size?

Inferior ingredients will adversely affect the taste, so make sure your baker uses nothing but the finest.

 How do you price your cakes?  What are the options for the flavour, fillings and frosting?

Unless you contacted the baker based on a recommendation, it's a good idea to check with other couples about their experiences.

How large is a serving size?

 Do you deliver? If so, is that an additional cost?

You will need to pass this along to whomever is cutting your cake so you do not run out of cake or have too much leftover.

 Are there additional costs for using different

Do they supply decorative cake knives?

 Will you place fresh flowers on the cake if required? flavours of cake and fillings for different tiers  Will you place the topper on the cake? of the cake/cupcakes?

Some supply cake knives. As a keepsake, you may want to purchase a specialty cake serving set complete with engraved monogram and wedding date.

 What is the deposit? When is it due?

Will the cake deliverer put the floral decorations on or will the florist?

 What is the cancellation policy?

Both are able to provide the service, but make sure you pin down who is responsible so everyone is clear.

Do they have other rentals available?

Some bakers also have candles, towers, fountains and other decorative items available to complete the presentation.

 Do you offer cake tastings?

 Idea of your color combo  Idea of the theme or "feel" you want  How many guests will be invited/are attending  Idea of your budget  If leftover cake is desired, and how much  Whether you want a first anniversary cake to freeze

Use unique shapes ranging from basic forms like hearts, scalloped ovals, squares, hexagons, and diamonds to an ornate hat or a stack of gifts. Explore different decorating options such as icing bows, ribbons, rhinestones and swags. Incorporate flowers, votive candles, fountains, beads, lights, bows, lacework, shells, draping, and more to create a cake that fits your wedding style. Discover the world of cake toppers! Plastic figurines can look exactly like you and your betrothed; Cake jewelry such as pretty initials studded with Swarovski crystals are a nice touch; Beautiful flowers are always fresh and tasteful. 56

Do they deliver? How great a distance? Is there a delivery fee? Do they set it up? Wedding cakes are complex, delicate constructions that require professional handling. Usually bakers include the cost of delivery and setup, but within a limited distance. How much is the deposit? What is the payment schedule? Make sure to have these things written down and included in the contract.

CANDY BARS/ BUFFETS Candy Bars/Buffets can be used at weddings in addition to your cake. It is often used as the wedding favour, providing guests with a small bag or box to fill with candies of their choice. Using unique containers help to display and dispense the goodies, thus adding another colourful element to your wedding.
