The Principal’s Pen, Dear Parents, This morning Dan Rodgers and I joined our former school Embleton Primary for it’s 50th birthday celebration. It was a lovely occasion with many former scholars and teachers attending the assembly. Those who spoke recollected some wonderful moments when their school population exceeded 1000 students. Dan and I are now looking forward even more to our own Deanmore event on 10 December as it is certainly a time for nostalgia and hugs from people who are gracious enough to say “you haven’t changed a bit!” Jeb Richards The school community offers its sincere condolences to our Head Cleaner Jeb and her boys on the sad loss of her husband Ken. He was a familiar figure in our school community and our thoughts are with Jeb and her family at this time. Year 7 Camp It’s hard to believe that this time last week we were still enjoying the freedom of the school camp. The graduating students were absolutely magnificent in every way as they abseiled, mountain biked and took in litres of muddy dam water. They were united by some extreme challenges and supported one another to ensure everyone achieved the set goals. Mr Holland and I were very proud to receive glowing comments about our students from the bus driver Maurie and every member of the Logue Brook Camp staff. Apart from the occasional gravel scrape and scratch we returned relatively unscathed. Special thanks to Clint Holland for making the camp fun for his students and maintaining his vigilant night watch until the last voice faded each night.

Student Reports These will be distributed on Friday 9 December. As I read of the progress students have made I realise just how much work they have put into their studies throughout the year. Staff speak glowingly of development in all areas and make note of the special achievements of many children. Please discuss the report with your child and praise them for a job well done. They have coped very well with a new school without an oval for the majority of 2011 and their behaviour and conduct has been exceptional. Book Awards Wednesday 7 December, 2011 This assembly will commence at 9.00am and will be much shorter than previous award ceremonies. It will nevertheless be an important occasion for the school community as we recognise excellence and reflect on the year in our new school. Official Opening and Year Graduation –Friday 9 December 2011 It really will be a BIG week as we gather once more for this very special assembly at 10.30am. We have many distinguished guests coming to this event and I thank staff for their assistance with preparing the venue. Please join us and be part of history as the Premier The Hon Colin Barnett opens our new facility. Deanmore P&C Meeting Our numbers did not dwindle during the year and this band of school supporters gathered for the final meeting on Monday 28 December. We have achieved much as a group and coped well with inducting new members into our school family. A huge thankyou to Marg Mc Leod and her Executive who bravely charted new waters in this new facility and made a positive contribution to our entire school community. Extravaganza – Saturday 10 December 2011 Please keep the offers of assistance pouring in. Karen, Susie and Dan as the chief organisers have put is such a marathon effort they need our support to make the day unforgettable. Pre Primary Assembly While I was away at the camp I missed the amazing Pre Primary assembly hosted by Jess Ellis' s class. However all was well as yesterday I sang and danced through every item as the children shared the experience with me on video. What a wonderful trip around the world visiting so many lovely countries. I missed Kate and Will' s actual wedding so to see it on the screen was a special treat. The Queen was truly splendid in that glittering tiara with her legendary wave. It was just lovely to hear the applause for Ellie Harvey when Mrs Marwick presented my Principal' s Award. Congratulations to everyone involved and a huge THANK YOU to Jess Ellis who put so much into encouraging every child to play an active role! The final newsletter will be online on Wednesday 14 December and will contain the names of all winners of 2011 awards. We may at this time be able to advise you of the names of new members of staff who have accepted teaching positions at Deanmore for 2012. /

Jeanette Metcalf School Principal Thank you so much to all the families who donated toiletries for the victims of the Margaret River bush fires and to Dale Anderson-Klanjcar for coordinating this appeal. I’m sure your contributions will be greatly appreciated by the Margaret River community in their hour of need. Jo Marwick

NETBALL 2012

Our fabulous netball coordinator at Deanmore, Kris Clape, will no longer be filling this important role in 2012 as her youngest child is finishing at the school. Therefore, for the netball club to exist, we require an energetic, motivated parent to fill her shoes for the club to operate next year. Without a coordinator, it will not be possible for the girls to play in the Matthews competition under the umbrella of Deanmore club in their year group teams. Although actual competition doesn’t start until May, arrangements actually begin quite early in Term 1. Please consider whether you might be able to help the P&C to continue with the netball club next year. There will be lots of support and help available to the person taking on the role and many girls will be very grateful! Please contact Lisa Dunstan on 0422 975907 for further information.
