The Principal’s Pen,

Dear Parents, We enjoyed a brilliant start to the day with an assembly hosted by Ms Griffiths and Mrs Brajdic’s students. There was entertainment for all with a lovely recital of The Owl and the Pussy Cat as well as a great tribute to Aussie Mums! A lively rendition of Mamma Mia had us all swaying and clapping. Congratulations to our SIM pianists Rhonan and Liam who gave such accomplished performances. If only we could start every day with such great gatherings and appreciative audiences!

Official Opening of Deanmore and Year 7 Graduation 9th December - 10.30am The Premier of Western Australia The Hon Colin Barnett will officially declare our new school open on 9 December, 2011. We will commence the ceremony at 10.30am with the Official Opening preceding the 2011 Graduation Ceremony. Everyone is invited to attend and observe the opening and also the first Year 7 cohort to graduate from our new facility. Morning Tea and Community Forum On Friday 18 November Liza Harvey MLA has invited me to meet the Premier at a Morning Tea. Fynn and Elyssa Deanmore Councillors will accompany me on the visit and have been invited to ask the Premier questions. World Teachers’ Day. Last Wednesday we shelved the diets and feasted on a lovely morning tea provided by the Deanmore P&C. Every year we eagerly look forward to Sam Maddern’s visit and I assure you the kind words on the card are as much appreciated as the cakes. We also received chocolates and a card with wording that we shall treasure forever from another new family to Deanmore. In our community this family has found nurturing and a level of commitment that has made them feel truly welcome. Thank you Deanmore community. We try very hard as a staff to deliver quality programs and meet community needs. It is so rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged.

This week I had the pleasure of listening to Kiahli read her book about going to see the Queen. Kiahli joined thousands of others on Saturday at the Big Aussie BBQ and was fortunate enough to get a close up glimpse of Her Majesty. Kiahli’s record of the event was beautifully written and her fluent reading shows the wonderful progress she has made with Ms Poilly this year. I hope you enjoy reading the excellent reports from the students in Rooms 5 and 6. Ms Jenkinson and Ms Wacker planned a wonderful excursion for their students to add value to the themes being studied this term. Many thanks to the parents who accompanied the field trip and supported the staff with their great initiative. I look forward to another entertaining community event when the students from Ms Poilly’s class host the next assembly on Friday 11 November. Jeanette Metcalf School Principal Big Walk All children in Pre-Primary to Year 7 will walk to Clarko Reserve, Trigg on Friday 18th November for beach activities and sporting events. Parents and friends are very welcome to walk with the children or meet us at the reserve. Parent helpers will be gratefully appreciated. Please see your child’s class teacher if you can assist on the day. Further information will follow. Assembly The next assembly will be conducted by Ms Poilly’s th Pre-Primary class on Friday 11 December. All parents and friends are very welcome. PEAC Congratulations to Ruby G, Madeline H and Campbell B who were offered places in PEAC for 2012. School Watch Unfortunately some damage to our school has occurred due to persons riding wheeled objects on school grounds. In particular the garden beds at the front of the school have been broken due to skateboards “grinding” along the surrounds. Also, the fire hydrant/water supply at the front of the school has been tampered with. If you see any unwanted visitors on school grounds out of school hours please contact the Police on 131444 or School security on 9264 4771 / 9264 4632.

Flute 2012 We are very pleased to announce that flute will be added to the musical instruments offered to students through the SIM program in 2012. SIM This term Mrs O’Donoghue, will be testing students for possible inclusion in the SIM program in 2012. Deanmore offers piano, guitar, clarinet and flute to identified students. The process for SIM selection is clearly defined and not only considers musical aptitude but attitude, commitment and ability to manage the extra learning activity in addition to the class program. Class teachers are consulted and the Principal reviews the selections and submits student names for consideration to SIM. More information is available on the P&C website Battery Recycling We are no longer collecting batteries. The City of Stirling has informed the school that we were too successful and that we had collected too many batteries. As a result we were disqualified twice from the competition. If you have any questions in regards this matter please contact the City of Stirling on 9345 8555. Greg Downes Deputy Principal

First of all, we got to see the Endeavour. On the outside it looked small for 94 people, but it was quite big. It was really interesting to learn all the history.

After lunch at the park we went to Fremantle Prison. We leant about Moondyne Joe, Wild Beast and the youngest person to go there, Samuel. Over all it was a great day.
