Smith&Jones About the Artists: Joseph Barral is a painter and graphic artist. His Brooklyn studio / darkroom is where he creates his pieces. Working back and forth between several pieces, Joseph’s work combines, and sometimes blurs, the lines between his two passions; painting and photography. Each piece influences the outcome of the other. Most recently experimenting with sculpture, collage, photo emulsion, chemical painting and cameras, Joseph’s work is driven by both curiosity and patience. Justin Beck was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. In 2006 he graduated from Boston University with a B.S. in Photojournalism. After he graduated Justin moved back to New York for an internship with beauty photographer Sarah Silver. During this time Justin also freelanced for New York Magazine taking photos of various restaurants and bars around New York. In 2007, Justin started working for luxury retailer Barney's as a fulltime still life photographer. A lot of his work appeared in The New York Times and promotional emails. Justin is also an avid traveler. So far he has traveled to New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, The Cook Islands, Argentina, Jamaica, England and Thailand. He hopes to continue traveling to build his portfolio. (justinbeckphotography.com)

Oswaldo Garcia goes by the graffiti name Smade (Self-Made). He was born in Mexico and raised in Brooklyn where all the art on the walls inspired him to lay out his own abstract concept. An alumni of the Pratt institute, he is currently focusing on graphic design.
Alexander Khost is a Brooklyn based oil painter, self-describing his technique as "precise inaccuracy." His work is a demonstration of his attempts at making sense of the world, shows his anxiety of trying to decipher repeated patterns, and illustrates the passage of time that recedes in the distance both in front and in back of us as our sight recedes into the unknown distances of that which surrounds us. He has shown his work places and has degrees. (deliciousdemon.com)

Blake Sandberg has shown a remarkable interest in art since he was a child, painting and drawing almost constantly. His parents supported his artistic habits, allowing him to turn their laundry room into a studio. While a teenager, he attended the San Antonio Art Institute founded by Linda Pace and then The University of Texas at Austin. There, Blake studied with Peter Saul and Michael Ray Charles. In 1997, Blake moved to the East Village and began showing in New York. His works have been seen alongside Andy Warhol, Willem de Kooning, George Condo, Christo, Philip Guston, Keith Haring, and Dali. (www.blakesandberg.com)

Smith&Jones Victor Spinelli has split his time for the past 17 years between New York, the Mediterranean and California and has evolved into a multi-media artist by working on films, commercials, music videos, documentaries and print campaigns. After working for three summers in Mykonos, Greece photographing the island life, he was drawn to another island in the Mediterranean: Ibiza, Spain. The land of Hierbas and dance. His documentation of the Ibizan nightlife has since been published in his first book ‘Manumission Reflections’. In 2002 Pacha’s then Music Director, Danny Whittle, called it “the best photographs work to come out of Ibiza in 10 years”. Spinelli also received a great personal compliment about his first book from Director/Writer Quentin Tarantino. For two years Spinelli served as the principle photographer for the islands largest magazine, ‘The Best of Ibiza’ and Manumission for 5 summers. (www.victorspinelli.com) Aliza Tucker creates art that confronts issues of articulation, authorship, and codification begot by the babble generated in a digital, networked society. She graduated from Rutgers University with concentrations in Psychology, Art and Music. Her work has been shown at the Raritan Valley Community College Annual Exhibition in New Jersey, CENTRAL BOOKING Art Space in New York City, and at Smith & Jones in Brooklyn. She spends her time commuting back and forth between Brooklyn and New Jersey, a practice sometimes heralded as "figuring out what the hell she's doing".
