Functional Exhuberance Institute of Advanced Innovation

Major Project - Martyn Hook + Greg More This project presents a future educational institution that conceptually uses futurist Ray Kurzweil's idea of the technological singularity, where he states that at in the year 2045, through the exponential evolution of technologies, humans will transcend biology. Here performance, genetics, robotics and nanotechnology labs are juxtaposed to present a new hybrid academic institution for the scientific analysis of the creative process. Singularity (transcendence) + cyber baroque (theatrical tectonics) = functional exuberance.

This project speculates about the idea of architectural Transcendence, through the morphing of classical digital architectural semantics into playful theatrical typologies. Formally the architecture is the result of a series of experiments using exuberance as the main driver behind them. Architecturally it creates a space where exponential innovation will take place through enhanced collaboration and the unexpected and constant overlapping of ideas from the different academic branches inhabiting the architecture.

Xtremes Studio Masters Stuido - Tom Kovac

This Project consisted of designing a speculative space station. After reading “The singularity is near” by futurist Ray Kurzweil, I decided to create five “fields” that would be necessary for the singularity to develop. In a speculative manner the fields are constantly interacting therefore increasing productivity and achieving its final goal. The project was a 4 week intensive studio, where I was introduced to Autodesk Maya and Adobe after effects. 7

The Skirt Bachelors Studio - Paul Minifie & Tim Schork This project takes place in the CUB site and we were assigned specific buildings with in the site. Due to the location and height constraints. We decided to divide the building into two and have two different concepts, one being the heart and the other the idea of dressing a building.

The skin of the building use the concept of “dressing a building so it became a skirt. Designing from a perspective point made use achieve that sense of visual continuity where the skin and the ramp seemed to be the continuation of each other.

We looked at the ground levels of the building as the heart of the site so in order to enhance the circulation of the whole site we created bridges and ramps that connected every entrance point to and around our building. 19

Pavillion that wears its heart on its sleeve Overseas Exchange Studio Sir Peter Cook & David Tajchman This Project consisted of creating a Pavillion in London, using our cultural backrounds as an inspiration. I used the organic shapes that blown glass creates as my inspiration. Mainly because the town I was raised in Mexico, is famous for its hand made glass. This project gave me the opportunity to explore some form making techniques using differenet different plugins for rhino 4.
