CAMPS FOR KIDS • In Sturgeon Bay MORE THAN JUST SOMETHING TO DO.... HEALTHY KIDS CAMPS For generations, YMCA Camps have provided children with rewarding experiences and a lifetime of memories. Y Healthy Kids Camps are more than just something to do. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why, through the Y, hundreds of local youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Y summer camp is an exciting, safe community for young people to explore the outdoors, build self-esteem, develop interpersonal skills and make lasting friendships and memories. The Y staff guides campers towards their goals every day by providing them with the building blocks they need to grow up healthy, caring and responsible. Forming new friendships, trying new things, becoming self-reliant and reaching personal goals helps to create a summer that your child will always remember. Y day camps are committed to building strong and healthy bodies through good nutritional activities and daily physical activities. Friday campers will try their hand at gardening as they venture to The Community’s Garden each week. Campers will learn how what we eat affects how we feel, and they will learn what plants need to grow. Campers also have the opportunity to get moving with games, sports skills, swimming, dancing, yoga, team challenges, tend the community garden and more! As a leader in aquatics, the Y is committed to helping every child learn to swim. Several camps provide FREE swim lessons as part of the weekly curriculum. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED One of the better-known benefits of volunteering is the impact on the community. Volunteers are often the glue that holds a community together. Volunteering allows you to connect to your community, make new friends and make it a better place. However, volunteering is a two-way street, and it can benefit you and your family as much as the cause you choose to help. Volunteering also strengthens your ties to the community and broadens your support network, exposing you to people with common interests, neighborhood resources, and fun and fulfilling activities.

SUPER SWIM LESSONS • In Sturgeon Bay Parents....does your busy summer schedule make it difficult for you to include once a week classes into your schedule, or does your child sometimes forget what she or he has learned from one week to the next? Then Super Swim may be just the thing you need! Each week of Super Swim includes one week of daily swim lessons.......at the end of the week, your child will have mastered many, if not all, of the skills necessary to move on to the next level. You may find your child completing several lessons over the course of the summer. Because the children do progress fast, we ask that you wait until Thursday of your current Super Swim session before registering for the next session. Classes meet weekly, Monday through Friday!

PARKINSON EXERCISE

• In Sturgeon Bay

EXERCISING WITH PARKINSON DISEASE & PARKINSON RELATED SYNDROMES An exercise group geared toward individuals with Parkinson Disease (PD) and Parkinson Related Syndromes (PRS) may be just what you are looking for! These exercise groups are designed and led by a physical therapist with experience working with individuals that have PD or PRS. The hour long class is split into half-hour sessions. The first 30 minutes will be spent on stretching with a focus on trunk mobility, and during the remaining 30 minutes, participants will walk on a treadmill. The theory behind this program is that improved trunk mobility combined with an aerobic conditioning program should lead to improvement or maintenance of functional activities used in everyday life. New participants are always welcome. Wear comfortable clothes, athletic shoes and bring a water bottle to class. If you have any questions please call Carl (PT), or Shawn (PTA), at Ministry Door County Medical Center Rehab Services (920) 746-0410. LIVESTRONG™ at the YMCA is a small-group exercise and movement program for the adult cancer survivor. Each 12-week session is comprised of classes that meet for 75 minutes, two times per week. All program participants receive a FREE family Y membership for the session’s duration, with options to extend membership beyond the end of the program cycle. • Builds muscle mass and strength • Increases flexibility and endurance • Develops a fitness plan to continue practicing a healthy lifestyle

Program Leadership:

The primary goal of our instructors/trainers is to provide a supportive environment for class participants. Our Y staff is trained and responsive to the changing variety of emotional and physical concerns that cancer survivors face. Each member of our staff team is a Y personal coach and certified in the Stanford University’s “Living Strong, Living Well” program, which includes training in the elements of cancer, post-cancer exercise, nutrition and supportive cancer care. What participants are saying about LIVESTRONG™ at the YMCA:

“I feel empowered both physically and mentally. I feel as if I can meet life’s challenges with more strength, and am so surprised at this unexpected result of just 3 short months of Livestrong!”

Criteria for Class Participation: This course of instruction is recommended for anyone who has finished cancer treatment; participation by those in treatment will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Express interest by phone, in person at the Y, or by email at livestrong@doorcountyymca.org.

PARKINSON EXERCISE • In Northern Door EXERCISING WITH PARKINSON DISEASE & PARKINSON RELATED SYNDROMES An exercise group geared towards individuals with Parkinson Disease (PD) and Parkinson Related Syndromes (PRS) may be just what you are looking for! These exercise groups are designed and led by a physical therapist with experience working with individuals with PD or PRS. Thirty minutes will be spent on stretching, with a focus on trunk mobility. The other thirty minutes, participants will walk on a treadmill. New participants are always welcome. Please set up an initial evaluation with Carl, PT, or Shawn, PTA, at Ministry Door County Medical Center Rehab Services (920) 746-0410. Class is held at the YMCA Northern Door Program Center, and Carol Ash is the physical therapist who leads the class. A physical therapist evaluation is required prior to registration (in most cases this evaluation is covered by Medicare or insurance). Contact Ministry Door County Medical Center Rehab Services for information (920) 746-0410.

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 am to 11:30 am (no class July 4) COST PER MONTH: Members $45.00 • General Public $70.00 The YMCA has financial assistance available; please ask us for more information about our finacially based Income Based Pricing.

GYMNASTICS BOYS GYMNASTICS • Age 8+

(Sturgeon Bay) The first development level of the YMCA’s Progressive Gymnastics program and in many ways, the most important. This level lays the basic foundation of gymnastics. It then begins to build skills to an intermediate skill level. Balance, repulsion, amplitude, form and style are addressed.

PROGRESSIVE LEVEL 2 • Ages 6+

(Sturgeon Bay) The intermediate skills are more defined in this level. Execution is addressed and the gymnast is transitioning to a higher level of understanding of the sport. Level 2 continues to build on previous progressions and development.

PROGRESSIVE LEVEL 3 • Age 6+

(Sturgeon Bay) This level is designed to concentrate on refining all skills and routines related to the Competitive Levels 3 through 10. Facility Age Guidelines The following general guidelines apply to all youth who are not participating in a supervised, structured program while in the facility (“supervising individuals” are defined as persons 14 years or older). • Youth ages 7 and under must have direct supervision at all times, except when the child is participating in a class. If using the pool, an adult must accompany the child in the water. Child care is available for infants through age 7; older children may also “help out” in child care. • In most cases, youth ages 8 and 9 must be accompanied by a supervising individual who remains on-site; parents may leave a youth age 8 or 9 at the YMCA for a visit up to 90 minutes (parents must sign child in at the desk and leave a contact cellphone number). The supervising individual does not have to be in the same area as the youth. The youth may move between program areas if required and follow the age restrictions posted for specific rooms and activities.

Lifestyle Center/Aerobic Equipment • Age 18 & older. Youth YMCA members, ages 12 through 17, may use the equipment upon completion of orientation with Y staff.

Prime Time Center • The Prime Time Center is open for family use (children 17 & under). All children must be directly supervised by an adult. Gymnastics equipment (including spring boards and large crash mat) are for use ONLY in gymnastics class.

Pool • All children ages 9 and under must be accompanied in the pool by an adult. • All youth are subject to swim testing and applicable restrictions based on swimming ability which may include an adult accompanying the child in the water.

Free Weight Equipment • Ages 13 & under not permitted in the Free Weight Room.

Whirlpool/Sauna • Ages 13 & under not allowed in the whirlpool/sauna facilities.

Locker/Shower Facilities Youth age 3 and under may use the opposite sex youth locker if accompanied by a supervising individual. Children 4 years and older must use the same gender locker room and showers or the family locker rooms. Youth ages 15 and under must use the youth locker rooms.

Exercise Classes Youth age 13 and up may participate in class unless a specific age limit is in place for that specific class. Contact the Healthy Living Director to discuss any exceptions.

Track Youth age 11 and up may use the indoor track unsupervised. Children ages 9 and 10 may use the indoor track when directly accompanied by a supervising adult. Children ages 8 and under may use the track during designated family friendly times.
