#INTERACTIVEpainting

It could even be said that I am one of those who despise pictorial story-telling and/or moralizing; my practice is rather introverted, focused on the concrete, physical reality of the medium in use, i.e. painting. The subject of these works can best be understood in terms of the following question: “what happens when we look at a painting?” and thus explore the vitality of the relationship between a painting and its beholder, where possibilities of manipulation are of great importance. ...to establish some kind of direct participation or interaction between a painting and its “bystander”. I am very well aware that an active (physical) interaction with an artwork is nowadays nothing un-usual, but what about painting? Can this object bear this kind of intercourse?

WARNING! The following 5 works are samples from the SHORT CIRCUIT series of “interactive paintings”; where a spectators action-touch is needed to experience the image/painting in its full. Non-figurative, geometric structures - a sort of frozen motion images are composed from several separate square plates that are compound with a method which generates a feasibility of movement revealing new dimension of perception. The viewer is offered a challenge; to touch and slide the individual plates and thus pursue after the 12 sequences of a motif at hand.

#simplyPAINTING

If the previous works asked for our physical respond - a touch, the following are “simple images playing with the psychical question of space and how do we respond to it...

#simplyPAINTING #new

The following works are part of the series entitled NEVER SAY NEVER; here the paintings rely even more on our perception of the 3rd dimension. Proceeding from a rectangular form the works take on irregular shapes while a linear drawing follows the contour of an imaginary object. The drawing comes even more to life in complete darkness as the white paint used is actually fluorescent/ UV paint.

Brown hair, average height, dark eyes. Katja is a painter, born 1979 in Murska Sobota, Slovenia. Her adventure on the battlefield called Art begun as early as her high school years when she joined LindArt -Young Artists Association in 1995. This gesture highly determined her artistic path while giving an opportunity to be engaged in the regional art scene. She annually attended summer Fine Arts Symposiums and participated on numerous group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. 2010 Katja received her PhD in Painting from Academy of Fine Arts, Ljubljana and since travelled the world as a freelancer. While her artistic research regularly deals with the relationship between a painting and its beholder, the means that she uses to address the viewer unpredictably vary: from humorous almost illustrative imagery all the way to geometrical illusionism. Besides her studio art, Katja is active in many other areas of culture: founder & director of D’CLINICstudios art/residence space, and the creative director of Bili Camu.
