DECATUR CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL Band Booster Meeting Minutes April 6, 2010 Opening of Meeting: The meeting was brought to order by Katrina Killion at 6:00 p.m. BOOSTER BUSINESS Treasurer’s Report: The February, 2010, Treasurer’s Report was distributed. There being no corrections to the report, a motion was made that the report be approved. Motion approved by the Booster Members present. NEW BUSINESS A.

Website/Flickr Account. A motion was made to purchase a Flickr account for $24.95 per year for the ease of uploading pictures of band events. There will be a link on the band website to the Flickr account. Motion approved by the Booster Members present. DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Mr. Cox thanked everyone present for taking the time to attend the meeting. The following report was given. OLD BUSINESS A.

Winter Guard. Congratulations to all the students, staff, and parents who helped the Winter Guard achieve a Semi-State appearance last month. Director, Matt Scott, along with his staff, have done a fantastic job this year. The Guard placed 20th this season (of nearly 65 Class A Guards) and made significant improvement in equipment, dance, and drill. The Guard also attended the State Finals awards ceremony to see Senior, Jenna Walters, receive a IHSCGA Scholarship (a Decatur Central first)!

B.

Winter Percussion Ensemble. The WPE earned 5th place in the ultra-competitive 2010 Indiana Percussion Association “Open” movement class. This was a great show that has made improvements each week. The WPE students invested many hours, and we appreciate all that they have invested. Thanks to our amazing staff (Justin Lahr, Nate Noble, Jon Amato, George Stuteville, and Chris Jacobs). Thanks also to the many parents who drove, cooked, traveled, pushed, etc. . . . we appreciate you! The WPE will attend the WGI World Percussion Championships as Class A members in mid-April.

C.

Dinner and Jazz. The 12th annual Dinner and Jazz concert and silent auction was a great success. This event was held at DCHS and proved to be a wonderful space. Thanks to the many parents who helped put on this event! Thanks also to Mr. Odya for all his help and to Mr. Lahr who brought the DMS Jazz Band, a first for our event! All the students enjoyed the event and love having such an evening dedicated to our wonderful jazz ensembles! Attached is a statement of income and expenses prepared by Liz Hatfield.

Hosting WGI Color Guard. Thanks to Matt Scott for helping the Band Department host several winter guards from around the country a few weekends ago. We had excellent cooperation from the School Corporation that allowed us to use three buildings. The Band made nearly $5,500. NEW BUSINESS

A.

Booster Elections. Elections will take place at the May concert. Nominations are as follows: President - Sue Kellough Vice President - Ron Whitsit Treasurer Financial Sec’y- Barb Homemma

B.

WGI Nationals. The WPE will be attending the WGI national competition in Dayton, Ohio, April 14 – 17, 2010. All members and their parents are required to attend an informational meeting on Monday, April 12, 2010, at 9:00 p.m. in the band room.

C.

ISSMA Contest. The Concert Band, directed by Mr. Odya, and the Wind Ensemble, directed by Mr. Cox, will compete on Friday, April 23, 2010 in the ISSMA Concert Band contest at Crispus Attucks High School. This is the most important contest of our concert band season, and all performers are expected to attend.

D.

Student Fair Share Fundraising Proposal (7-7-7). There was discussion among the Booster Members present concerning fundraising. There was general agreement that changes need to be made to the current fundraising options and that the Boosters should give this priority when the new officers and committees are formed for the 2010-2011 school year.

E.

Budget. Attached is the first draft of the 2010-2011 budget.
