Greetings with a very warm welcome to everyone. Since our last Island Breeze, Spring 2016, so much news and stories need to be shared…...but one which I cannot express often enough is how sincerely we value you as a friend of Palm Island Resort. Yesterday I sat back and started to fill out my messages on some personal Christmas cards and I think its appropriate to share one of them as it also pertains to all of you. “I thank you for your participation in being part of Palm Island and for you being simply, you!”

Warmest Regards,

Palm Island Resort has always prided itself in being a common stage for memories to be created and shared with others. Whether it is between people meeting people which will lead into friendships being formed, a place shared by varied ages in spending quality time with one another, or simply to gain insight from one another’s diversity. What is always magical to see though, is that the legacy is being passed along to future generations. We wish to specifically express how honored we are to be the site of choice for seven (7) of our property owners in selecting Palm Island for their own, or for their family member’s weddings over the last couple of seasons. Nothing rings better than to participate in the joy of two lives merging together as one. We look forward to meeting any of those future memory seekers yet to be born. We anxiously await their discovery of Palm Island.

Introducing Art Santos, Tennis Pro We are pleased to announce that Mr. Art Santos, a tennis professional with Peter Burwash International has joined Palm Island Resort on November 1st. He will host the Palm Island Resort Tennis Program until May 15, 2017. As many of you are aware, Bill Longua had to retire from professional services due to health reasons. Art is a veteran professional and has joined us from his summer stage at Pine Hills Country Club in Wisconsin. Last winter, Art was at the Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club in Palm City, Florida. After realizing that palms in a City is nothing like palms on an Island, it seemed only appropriate to accept our invitation to take over our tennis program for this upcoming season. Previous tennis experiences include 28 years at Kohler's Sports Core and the American Club Resort in Wisconsin. Born in Hawaii and a graduate of the University of Hawaii, Art implemented the Peter Burwash programs in places like China, Austria, Oman, St. Kitts, Kuala Lumpur, the Hong Kong Country Club and at Carefree Arizona. PBI, are tennis specialists who embrace the PBI Philosophy of Service while providing talented and experienced professionals to direct the tennis programs at some of the world’s finest resorts and clubs. PBI professionals are recruited from a worldwide pool of candidates. Successful applicants fulfill PBI’s requirements on personal character and integrity, tennis teaching ability, playing or potential in playing ability….In that order. The selection is thorough and rigorous providing “the best of the best.” You will find Art either on the court or in his newly renovated pro shop. You will find Information available there and at every tennis court on a new bulletin board with a monthly calendar.

PINPOA Tennis Courts; Home of Palm Island Resort Tennis In collaboration with Palm Island North Property Owner's Association, Palm Island Resort is pleased to continue with its contributions to maintain the best possible tennis facility while we provide a great tennis program for all our owners and guests to enjoy. Palm Island Resort and PINPOA are pleased to announce that all 6 tennis courts have been resurfaced. Three (3) of the 6 courts have been resurfaced AND cushioned. Although cushioning of the tennis courts will provide a softer bounce of the tennis ball, it will be more enjoyable and be better for those of us who have lost some strength in our knees and legs. In essence, the play is a little slower yet more enjoyable.....unless you are on the USTA circuit of tournaments. BILL LONGUA Many of you have asked how Bill is doing and we continue to be in contact with him. As of September 1, 2016, Bill has been retained by Palm Island Resort for him to canvas the college and club tennis programs and to sell "Palm Island Resort" to those that seek tennis destinations for hosting their tennis camps and clinics at. We certainly have had so many years of enjoyment with Scarsdale Tennis Club that we are happy to have someone who knows the details of tennis clinics now on our Sales staff. Bill will be corresponding and soliciting the business from thousands of contacts he has acquired. We are proud to have Bill continue being on our team while joining another department with Palm Island Resort.

Villa Refurbishment Program The vacation rental market is currently growing and evolving. The industry worth is expected to reach $169.7 Billion by the year 2019. As our seasons become busier and the demand continues to increase, we want to respond by making villa refurbishments a priority and partner with you to meet the demands of travelers. Below are some simple and affordable means to get a great value for modest financial expenditure. Take a moment to consider some of our recommendations and some minimum specifications that will help in making this an easy process. Again, the below items we believe will offer our guests the biggest visual impact of the pride in villa ownership:

 Flat Screen TV's - Older box televisions date the villa.  Bedspreads - Add décor and style while covering a good amount of   

visual square footage which provides for a good impression. Mattresses - Everyone deserves a good night's sleep. Carpet or Flooring Replacement - New carpet or flooring provides for a substantial amount of visual square footage to everyone who enters the villa. Appliance Upgrades - New appliances give a visual impact as well as lesson the risk of an untimely needed replacement during valuable vacation time.

Please take a look at the suggested categories and we certainly hope that you consider each for the merit it can provide in sustaining our market share, joining hands in our partnership to provide the best possible accommodations through attending to details, and respecting our common goals.

In Memory: Alex Lindfors It is with great regret and sadness that we must inform you that Mr. Alex Lindfors, our resort Landscaping Manager has passed away. Alex had been receiving treatment for cancer over the past 6 months and after a valiant fight, finally succumbed on Thursday, September 15th. Many of you knew Alex personally. Over the past 8 years Alex exemplified the best of our staff. He always put the beauty of the resort, associations and homes above all else. His ideas and landscaping philosophies can still be seen across the entire resort and will remain for years to come. Alex created an excellent, hard working crew that will remain in place and continue working with the knowledge he bestowed upon them. Although their hearts are heavy, they will continue their work day in, day out. After speaking with Alex's wife, it was his wish to be cremated and to have his ashes spread across the water through the Neptune Society. We will miss Alex's presence and contributions on Palm Island.

Stump Pass Update / Beach Nourishment

HELPFUL HINT: HAVE YOU ADDED US ON FACEBOOK YET?

This project provides for continued monitoring, as required by permitting, for dredging Stump Pass that re-established the 1980 channel alignment and provided for re-nourishment of critically eroded beaches. Maintenance dredging of Stump Pass and beach re-nourishment onto the north beach of Palm Island is expected to commence in January 2017. An engineered structure will be installed at Stump Pass on the south side of Manasota Key and is being constructed to improve program performance. In the permitting process, an Adaptive Management Plan Strategy will be employed to provide options for modifications to the structure placed with the capability of initiating smaller dredging projects should the need arise due to smaller storms which adversely effect the pass. The US Fish and Wildlife Service agency prepared a new Biological Opinion (BO) for this Project. It is noted that the Red Knot was recently listed on the threatened and endangered species list, thus a new BO was necessary to review the project for migratory birds including Piping Plover and Red Knot. At present, the bidding process has been initiated with the intent to award the contract by the end of the year and mobilization of dredging equipment to commence immediately. The beach nourishment program for Don Pedro and Knight Island has been delayed to coincide with Manasota Key’s project scheduled for 2019. In the meantime, Charlotte County has retained an outside consultant charted with the scope to determine long range funding so that future beach nourishment and dredging projects can be scheduled on a long term and regular basis. Updated Stump Pass Schedule Mobilization in January 2017. Commencement in late January 2017 Completion in late May 2017

Maintenance: Frank Naro and his Service Team If you should call the maintenance department, Kimmer Manera is the person you will be speaking with. In 1991 Kimmer was hired for management of the Rum Bay Store. She not only managed the store, but helped in the recreation program that had just started, which is now called Coconuts. She left us in 2007 to take care of a family member who needed her support. Welcome Back Kimmer! Frank Naro and his contract service team as well as his maintenance department have been very busy this year! They not only changed the appearance of the activities center at the gazebo, they have also transformed a storage room into a soothing relaxing area for massages. Now that the massage room is finished, the fitness room will be made larger for exercise equipment and classes.
