when we were least expecting you, and you interfered: "Come, follow me," you said. We thank you, Lord, for interfering in our private lives. You never promised us a comfortable life, or success, status, or prosperity. "Leave behind your old way of life. Seek first the kingdom of God," you said. We thank you, Lord, for not promising us empty rewards. You invited us to walk alongside you and learn from you. You gave us hands and lips and hearts to reach out to others all along the way. We thank you, Lord, for these essential gifts. But just when we think we understand; just when we think we are doing all the right things, your Holy Spirit makes us restless again, prodding us to change. So we thank you, Lord, for coming to us again and again, to show your love for us and for all people. Amen. THE LORD’S PRAYER
