*THE CALL TO WORSHIP Pastor: Make ready a pathway for our God. People: Clean out the debris in our hearts and our closets. Pastor: Clear out a space on our calendars. People: Put aside any sense of unworthiness Pastor: And focus on the One who comes to us in love. People: Prepare a place in our homes and in our hearts. Pastor: Set the table and light the candles, People: For Christ is coming. *THE OPENING PRAYER: Merciful God, you sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation. Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. *HYMN OF PRAISEHymnal “Lift Up Your Heads, Ye Mighty Gates”

A TIME FOR OUR CHILDREN (As Children ages 2 through 5th grade leave for Sunday School, please join in singing Hymn #217) “Away in a Manger” Away in a manger, no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where he lay, the little Lord Jesus asleep in the hay. INVITATION CONFESSION AND PARDON (in unison) Almighty God, we confess that we are often swept up in the tide of our own generation. We have failed in our calling to be your holy people, a people set apart for your divine purpose. We live more in apathy born of fatalism than in passion born of hope. We are moved more by private ambition than by social justice. We dream more of privilege and benefits than of service and sacrifice. We try to speak in your name without relinquishing our glories, without nourishing our souls, without relying wholly on your grace. Help us to make room in our hearts and lives for you. Forgive us, revive us, and reshape us in your image. Amen. Pastor:
Hear the good news. Christ died for us while we were yet sinners; that proves God’s love toward us. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven! All: Thanks be to God. Amen.

With God our creator, children all are we. Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now. With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow; to take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. *SHARING OF THE PEACE AND LOVE OF CHRIST Pastor: Let us greet one another as sisters and brothers in the ministry of Jesus Christ. May the grace of our Lord and Savior be with you. People: And also with you! (Please turn and greet one another as disciples of Jesus Christ!) *POSTLUDE “Wir Christenleut”
