As Members of The United Methodist Church, we have pledged to support our Church with our prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness PRAYERS Dawn Archambo and the Porter Family, at the death of Dawn’s dear friend, Barb Porter, on Aug. 5 in California Connie Harrison & Family, following the deaths of Connie’s nephew, Jonathan Edwards, and his fiancée, Nadia Stranberg. Both we killed in an automobile accident on Aug. 6 Steve Holloway, brother of Cindy Dale, just diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer Shirley Hughes, transferred to Hospice of the Valley Dobson Home this past week Carole Bednarik, friend of Bob & Sally Jarus, recovering from a stroke, and following the death of her husband, Alan, on Aug. 5 in Connecticut Helen Ellis, healing following surgery on Aug. 5 Dylan, baby nephew of Melly Hernandez, still dealing with health issues Vera Pool, friend of Melly Hernandez, whose father has a liver disease Josephine Wilson, sister of Meg Johnson, prayers for complete healing of her injured eye Scott & Mary Sievert & Family, following the death of Scott’s brother, Ben Sievert, on August 4 in Toledo, Ohio Arnold Muzzy, for increased kidney function Ongoing Health Concerns Denise Gaudet, Shirley Hughes, Lisa Benton Reed, The Ellis Family, Polly Smith, Teresa Webb, Marge Sydell, Kristen Stegeman, Pam Narcy and Joan Venturini All military personnel and their families, especially those who are actively serving our country during this time of war. *REMEMBER all those, known and unknown to us, who are in special need of prayer. ANNOUNCEMENTS BE A PART OF THIS MINISTRY We invite you to explore the Dayspring family by attending our next NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION class next Sunday, August 21st , from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the Adult Room, with a light lunch served. The NEW MEMBER SUNDAY will be held on August 28 th. Child care is provided. To register for the class, or for more information, please contact Carol Coleman at carolc@dayspring-umc.org or (480) 838-1446. The Children’s Music Ministry has an immediate need for a pianist/accompanist for Wednesday evening rehearsals weekly, and possible Sunday Services monthly. If you are interested, please contact Michael Kelley in the Church Office Monday thru Thursday, or after Sunday Worship. Rehearsals begin August 10. Fall Sunday School Has Started! - We are still looking for volunteers to lead a Sunday School class this fall. It’s rewarding to get to know some of our Dayspring children. Curriculum is written and sent to you, and all you have to do is follow the lesson. (There are also back-up copies in the rooms). We need everyone’s help! It’s easy to participate - either email me at kluzaich@cox.net or call me (480) 219-9696. Bibles for 3rd Graders - We are planning to hand out bibles to the third graders this year on August 28th. In order to have an accurate count of the 3rd graders, could you please email me with the name of your 3 rd grader and which service you plan to attend that day: kluzaich@cox.net. Thank you. Become an Acolyte - Are you between the ages of 10 and 14 years old? If so, consider being an Acolyte! Every service, the Acolyte “brings the light of Jesus” into the church by lighting the altar candles. Dayspring Youth Ministry (DYM) * 10:15 - 11:30 - Jr. High Formation, Room 111 * 10:15 - 11:30 - Sr. High Formation, Room 110 Monday Moms & Dads Group will begin on Aug. 22 from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. in Room 111. Lunches - Each Sunday after the second service, those who want to go out for lunch as a group meet at the restaurant listed below. If you attend first service, please join us! Library News - Dayspring now has a designated shelf in the Library for Disciple Study Materials that have been previously stored in members’ homes. If you have any videotapes, DVD’s or facilitator books for Disciple I, III or IV please bring them to the church office and place them in Jim Coffman’s mailbox or leave them at the front desk with his name on the material. Thank you! UMOM Volunteers Needed - We are in need of volunteers to help with UMOM Homeless Shelter dinners on the following Sundays: Sept. 18, Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Oct. 23, Nov. 20, Dec. 11 and Dec. 18. Thanks so much! “Connections” is a Dayspring mission that advocates for the intrinsic worth of all persons, regardless of their sexual orientation. It offers support to and education about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons and their families. It also hosts the Tempe PFLAG group meeting each first Friday of the month. Our clergy can provide the names of “Connections” members for you to contact. Koinonikos Schedule - The next deadline date for the newsletter is August 15, and will include events in the month of September. Dayspring Holiday Boutique now has a Facebook page! “Like” us and be plugged in to the latest announcements and free giveaways! Dayspring Preschool and Kindergarten - We still have some openings for the 2011-2012 school year. There is space available in the 3 year-old program, afternoon 4's and Kindergarten.
