Dan & John Flynn Designers, Flynn Silver What are your top five must do’s in your backyard when visitors come? We love showing people around this area, particularly if they’re first time visitors. First we’ll drive them into Trentham under those soaring majestic gums, back via the Glenlyon Reserve showing how a small community shines, and then home to Kyneton to visit the Racecourse and the Botanic Gardens, ending with a stroll down Piper Street to finish the day. What do you love about where you live? Kyneton has been the home of Flynn Silver for decades, and there’s lots to love about this town but the standout for us is the way it welcomes new talent and takes pride in its success. What are your five favourite food or wine spots? As residents of Kyneton who love great food and wine, we’re spoilt for choice. For us, it’s Banks Fine Wines, Granite Hills Winery and Curly Flat for beautiful wine; the whole of Piper Street with its outstanding restaurants; and of course du Fermier in Trentham run by the legendary Annie Smithers, is still setting the bar.
If you could paint a picture of any scenery in the region, what would you paint? It’s the different landscapes and views that you see around every bend in the road, particularly the beautiful rolling hills on the Glenlyon to Daylesford road. What is the best part of waking up in the region? It’s the clean, crisp quality of the air that we really love – there’s nothing quite like it anywhere else! What is your favourite time of year in the region and why? Every season has something special, but it’s Spring that really brings us to life.
What is your favourite secret location in the region? (Which you may or may not want to share!) Bullarto Reservoir – it’s a great secret spot, but we’re happy to share the secret. It’s a bit like having your own private lake in the middle of the forest. Great for walks and picnics. V I S I T O R G U I D E | 67
