Journey to Success... Kavita (Yajnik) Thakur Batch : 1990
It feels like ages, but the school memories are as fresh as yesterday. It was 1985, when I went to DAVPS Sector 14, seeking admission in VIII std. The school that time was being operated from two houses in sector 15. Ours was the senior most class (VIII) and to add to our privileges we remained senior most till next 5 years till we passed out of XII and that makes me so proud of the fact that the school grew with us J. Being a small school then, it was more like a family and all support and encouragement was given to all the students. When I was in IX, the school introduced the concept of students’ management and I, till today, feel lucky and proud of the fact that I would be the only girl in the history of the school who remained the Head
Girl for four continuous years. That’s how I developed people skills, leadership and public speaking skills which have helped me all through my career till today. All the SUPW periods helped me to build and enhance the creativity; the hawans and Dharamshiksha periods kept us closer to our Indian culture and values. And the proudest moments were holding the Indian Flag during the March Past on Sports Day which instilled the respect for the country and the school. I can go on and on with the memories, but all these treasures were possible only because our teachers held my hand every moment and guiding me through the unforgettable journey, which became the beginning of the rest of my life.
Maj (Dr) Lalit Kumar Singh Batch : 2009 My each and every breath smells of the soil of this pious institution and with enthralling memories of the machinery behind the architecture of my entire life. In my entire period of schooling from class I-XII (1997-2009), I was grilled, crafted and built to be the young boy with an upright attitude and aptitude, sound mind and strong will-power which ultimately led me through to be a doctor as well as an honoured Army Officer. My mentors guided through various milestones of my life. I was awarded with scholarship from VI-X, represented school in Mathematics Olympiad and received ‘meritorious award’ in class XII. The kind words and guidance of my amazing biology teacher Ms. Naaz, helped me get through every obstacle that I faced. The feeling to serve the Nation and mankind fathomed in grades VI-VII. I am an immensely proud Soldier Doctor and at the same time an immensely proud DAVite. I am truly gratified and eternally indebted to everything you all have given me, to all what D.A.V has bestowed me with.
Major Deep Gupta Indian Army Batch : 2008 I have been a part of DAV Sec-14 Faridabad from III to XII. Not much fascinated by studies, but, somehow, I used to score well. During lunch hours, I, along with my friends, used to rush to playground to play our favourite sport, Cricket, often turning up late and made to stand outside the class. My passion to join the forces was so strong that even after failing in my 12 interview attempts, I finally succeeded in cracking my SSB interview in Jan 2014 (almost after 6 years of trying and 13th attempt). All thanks to the motivation by Mrs Sangeeta Arora (my English teacher in class 9th & 10th in DAV & her husband Maj S Arora). Without both of them, I wouldn’t have been here. I believe that hard work may not guarantee success but it definitely increases its probability. Also remember, you may not be good in studies or sports, but it’s important to be a good Human being. Do the best and God will do the rest. Be a winner in life and make WINNING A HABIT. (If someone is interested in joining the Armed forces or seek any guidance in career or want to interact, please feel free to contact me on +91 9582614218 OR deepgupta786@gmail.com)
Memories... Arpit Gupta Batch : 2004
Dr Sidharth Vashisht Batch : 2009 Though memories of the school campus have become faint, but I take pride in being a witness to its developing infrastructure. Cocurricular activities like S.U.P.W periods, summer workshops, sports and music classes, have moulded my creative side. All my teachers framed my personality, but few names are unforgettable Mr. Aryaveer Bhalla (Principal), Mrs. Shivali Bhardwaj, Mrs. Deepti Jagota, Mrs. Munjal, Mrs. Dimple Advani. Special mentoring by Ms Anand and Ms Naaz, Mrs. Sarika and Mr. Layak Ram developed my interest in their subjects and paved way for what I
am today. After my graduation in Biotechnology from Bangalore, I completed my PG in Microbiology from VIT University. For a year, I worked in a plant molecular biology lab on developing rice transgenic. I did my PhD, from CSRIIM Tech. After successfully patenting two molecules and research papers; I headed to Caltech for postdoctoral research. At present, I am developing a tool to screen and evolve ‘Therapeutics against protein misfolding disorders.’ For receiving several awards in international conferences, I give credit to my conceptual and strong foundation.
I was a part of DAV family for four years and passed out in the year 2009. In spite of being a struggling biology student, unflinching support of my DAV family, transformed a struggling medical aspirant to accomplish the topmost branch of RADIOLOGY. I owe my teachers for my gradual academic evolution and special concern. I completed my MBBS from prestigious Seth G.S. Medical & KEM Hospital, Mumbai. After which, I qualified UPSC CMS Exam and served as Class -I GDMO in North MCD Delhi for approximately two years. Later I completed my post graduation in Radiology from Govt Medical College, Nagpur. , I am serving in Maharashtra, as a Consultant Radiologist
Ishita Blaggan Content Strategy Manager Batch : 2004 I was a studious first-bencher and teachers’ pet in school - the one who would remind the teacher about homework she assigned the previous day. Always prereading syllabus to keep ahead of other students, I was handpicked for most of the debates and extempores and won quite a many (low-key flex). I loved reading and reciting so after Class XII, I decided to pursue English Literature at DU at Hindu College, the same college my grandfather went to. I wanted to take the lineage, ahead but I didn't get admission. Heartbroken but determined, I sacrificed everything - parties, friendships. Studying sincerely, finally topped the college and campus and got admission in Hindu College and made my grandfather proud. Looking back today, I am proud to have worked as a journalist for The Times of India and NDTV despite not doing any course in journalism. With my hard work and determination, today, I am the Content Strategy Manager for Instagram. As I look back, all I'd like to say is Thank You to my English teachers, especially Mrs Nalini Dhawan and to all the backbenchers who tolerated me. I owe my success to my school and my father, who would attend all my PTMs diligently and stood like a pillar, never letting his girl feel there is anything in this world that she can't achieve.
Recollections ... Dr Rakesh Bahl General Practitioner Batch : 1993
‘I was among the few who joined at the first building of the school in 1984’. Our class actually inaugurated (unofficially) the main building. And as luck seems to be, I opened the lock of the main gate. ( I can’t remember clearly but for reasons, we had no place to sit and when new building was ready under cemented roof sheets, we were asked to go there and open a room put all the desks and start the class). My mother got me into Medical with Maths. I cleared the All India Medical Entrance. After Graduating and internship, came to Faridabad for 21 months,
worked at Deep Medical centre, sector 16 and then went to UK. Eventually got Membersip of Royal college of UK. In 2014, I migrated to Australia and currently working as General Practitioner. Goals have shifted to values, serving humans has been one of most rewarding experience for me. I enjoy every moment of my work, in fact, it’s not even work for me. I guess hard work, preparation, patience and focus is all one needs to live a productive life. Have fond memories of DAV sector 14, Fbd. Still in contact with many friends from DAV and have a WhatsApp group.
Dr Manu Sharma Psychiatry Resident (MD) Batch : 2006 Vivek Singhal Batch : 1999 I am an entrepreneur, providing technology solution for Global Wealth Managers. The organisation named ‘VALUEFY’ has been named as best ‘Wealth -Tech ‘Firm for five consecutive years by leading International bodies. The firm has offices in Mumbai, London and Singapore. It is a promising firm both in Indian Capital market and Overseas. I passed out from DAV 14, FBD, in the year 1999. I secured Rank-639th in BTech Mechanical, and further completed my education from IIT Mumbai in 2003. Instilling of courage and a value system, has allowed me to be ‘Me’ and contribute in the world. For this, I especially thank Mr Shastri. Teachers like Mr Dubey and Mr T N Singh exemplify high octane energy. I still go down the memory lane and thank the entire school for their contribution in my life and success.
I spent only two but very consequential years at DAV Sector-14, Faridabad as we had just shifted from Mumbai after my class 10th. I had the great fortune of learning from amazing teachers like Sarika Mam (Physics), Naaz Mam (Botany) and Anand Mam (Zoology) along with many invaluable life lessons that serve me well even now. I did not get an MBBS seat in my first attempt and if it wasn't for the wise words and encouragement by Sarika Mam I would have never attempted AIPMT again and rest, as we say it, is history. I graduated from Mysore Medical College and Research Institute in 2011 and came to the US in 2012 to pursue Masters of Public Health from University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, Texas, then got into Psychiatry Residency (MD) in 2014. I currently work for Hartford Healthcare, Behavioural Health Network as a Psychiatrist and am on faculty of the Department of Psychiatry at University of Connecticut and Frank Netter, School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University. I have also published in peer reviewed journals and have written book chapters.
Q&A Name of the alumni: Elisha Deep Garg Profile title: Kathak dancer School name: DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL,SECTOR-14 FARIDABAD Batch: 2012-13 Alumni's contact number: 09953090506 Email ID : elisha506@gmail.com *How does it feel having made name and space in the field of Indian classical dance ? -It feels great to know that I am able to make a substantial contribution in preserving Indian culture, heritage and art. *What triggered your decision to take up this profession while you were in school ? -When my parents saw my inclination towards dance and that it gives me ultimate happiness, they were very supportive and encouraging of my choice of not being part of the white collar crowd. And my school gave me numerous opportunities which helped me continue following my passion.
RENDEZVOUS *How did you strategize yourself towards fulfilling your dream ? I have always been open to learning new things. I always focused on being a good student which helped me stay humble. Secondly, I always kept myself receptive to criticism which helped me have a feed back and gave me room to grow. *How has DAV contributed in shaping up your dream and approaches? -The interactive programs, opportunities that I got as a student to showcase my skills were very encouraging and helped me become the person I am today. Those formative years of education at school still continues to shape who I am. *What are the key traits towards getting in field of Indian classical dance? -Firstly one has to be sensitive enough to connect with nature and feel emotions of the people around. Secondly, to be expressive enough to depict those emotions that you feel. So, together the sensitivity and expression would
become your creativity, which according to me will be the key trait to excel. *How can alumni contribute to transformation of education system? -Since alumni has more recent relevant experience of getting started in career which is something they would like to share and students would want to hear. So more mentorship programs can be organized for advice and tips of career progressions. *What has been your most miraculous life changing experiences in your journey so far? -It is very difficult to pick one but if I have to then it will have to be the crowning moment when I won the very prestigious Pt.Birju Maharaj Crown. *Advice for students who want to pursue their career in dance ? -To begin, i suggest you take variety of dance classes in different styles, to figure and find out where you find your interests. And then decide a specific dance genre you want to specialise in. Then have patience & keep 'riyazing'. Believe in yourself and keep working until you see your dream become a reality. Quick Five *When not working , you like ? - Going out with friends * Favourite holiday destination ? -Banaras * Favourite food ? - Pizza * One thing not many people know about you ? - I like to party * Two important persons of your life ? -My Guru ( Maharaj ji ) and my Mother

NAME OF THE ALUMNI: JATIN ARORA SCHOOL NAME: D.A.V. Public School BATCH: 2011 pass out ALUMNI'S CONTACT NUMBER: 9930747885 ALUMNI'S EMAIL ID: arora.jatin2407@gmail.com Q1. How does it feel having made name and space in the field of performing arts? A: Well, I was extremely excited even before starting my journey, so there is a huge amount of happiness though there is so much more to achieve. Q2. What triggered your decision to take up this profession while you were in your school ? A: I was 4 when I decided to get into performing arts and since then I have tried to keep myself in touch with everything associated with art. The very idea of letting the whole world know me, and to be the center of attraction used to be on my mind. Q3. How did you strategize yourself towards fulfilling your dream? A:There wasn’t any strategy as such. The key was to keep myself open to know and learn new things all the time but at the same time living and experiencing every aspect of a simple, normal life.. but not getting carried away… That’s how, I think, originality comes from, as far as being an artist is concerned. Q4. What are your goals for the future ? A: I have done 35 commercials, two
TETE-A-TETE web shows and a TV show.. but I consider all that as a kick start only.. to get inside the circuit.. The ultimate goal is to be a part of/make movies… be it content oriented which can make a difference in people’s minds .. or simply projects that entertain people.. But to be UNFORGETTABLE…. And obviously to make my family , friends and school proud. Q5. Your advice to the students who want to pursue their career in your field. A: I would suggest to the students to keep surfing the internet since it’s so easy these days to get to know about anything and everything. If they want to be actors or film makers.. start watching films, watch interviews of achievers in the field… and most of all start doing stuff, even if it is wrong… mistakes make you learn the most in this field. … When I started my college… besides studies and theatre I used to make short films even if I never had practically experienced it before.. and my first short film got a recognition in Dada Saheb Phalke film festival.. so it’s all about vision. Q6. What according to you are the key traits towards getting into the field of Performing arts? A: Art isn’t something you can learn theoretically… so I guess… a vision… a desire.. or likeability is what happens on the first.. and after giving it a good thought for a long time… surety comes.. which converts into passion.. So I would suggest the people who want to become an artist to listen to
the instinct and work upon it… that’s what I did and still trying… Q7. What have been some of the challenges for you to overcome? A: The biggest challenge was to let go the fear of being judged.. I was never an introvert.. but our society is absolutely stereotypical in a lot of ways which kind of bothered me initially. I was looked down upon.. for my decision to get into acting… There are insecurities attached as far as financial settlement is concerned with this field.. Q8. How can the alumni contribute to the transformation of the Education System in India? A: He/she can be a beneficial source of motivation and clarity for the students with the respective fields.. Q9. What have been your most 'miraculous life changing experiences' in your journey so far? A: My journey has been extremely dramatic, be it anything.. so there isn’t one particular big miracle.. but a lot of little miracles which have been Happening with me. The best part is that I feel so happy now to see a lot of tick marks on my wish list.. ( being the face of a brand which did for the biggest mall ever, it was the biggest campaign I could be a part of) (giving and interview to my school) (etc. ) Q10. How has DAV contributed in shaping up your dreams and approaches? A: Oh! The time I spent in DAV will be
the most cherishable .. It has given me the most beautiful memories.. And I love and miss those days.. so much so that while answering each question.. I was picturing the school… And I absolutely remember every bit of it… I remember how Munjal ma’am used to push me to be at my best when I was a little boy.. the singing sessions, the plays we used to make. DAV has given me the confidence to be myself . I have kept every single certificate, the awards, the paintings, display boards.. with me… .hahahhah Q11. DAV United is an initiative to bring together the entire alumni and students community of DAV on one platform. Your views about this initiative... A: I love the idea… I would love to get connected to the students.. to tell them my story and to know theirs… And to tell them the fun stories about the school. Quick 5! ● When not working, you likespending time with my family and friends ● Favourite holiday destination – Mountains ● Favourite food- Maggi ● One thing not many people know about you- I am way too free a bird to hide anything about me…. ● Two important persons in your life– my sister and my parents.
