People tend to think of Glee as this somewhat corny if not lambasted venue. But in reality, there's a lot more to the hit show than meets the eye. And that's what we wanted to discuss here, today, with this article. We wanted to point out a few things that people haven't really given much credence, nor have people really even paid much attention to these points. First and foremost, Glee brings to light a number of social issues, in fell swoops, and sort of glazes over them (if not sugar coats these issues, these heavily loaded and controversial issues) with songs. In a sense, from this particular perspective, you can think of Glee as a musical, only in the sense that it's trying to smoothen out the discourse, about particular subjects that have generally instilled violence, violent reactions and responses amongst participants about the debate. Let's take the idea of homosexuality, arguably the show's tamest of issues. It sort of just went over these things, like it was nothing, because of a few songs, because of a few references to pop star Adam Lambert, and now: well, kids are talking about it. Let's face it; this is the elephant in the room, about this particular show: this show is geared towards teens. The colors, the language, for Pete's sake, the pop tunes and the fashion: it's blatantly clear that this is all about teenage culture, and the sex, and the sorts of issues that the rest of society is grappling with, but framed up within, well, quite literally, a high school student's world. Forget the references, these are kids at a school, with teachers and friends; cell phones, the whole nine, as it were. You can't really deny that this is the case here, with these particularly sharp topics. So, what's to make of all of this? Well, we can start with the assumption (if not the fact) that Glee is actually targeted at the youngest participating members of our consumerist society. Let's start with that very clear assumption, and say: should this be the case? And as the statistics show, throughout the Glee-watching world, more households have more than one child than not. So, if an older sibling is watching Glee, what are the chances of that 8 year old watching glee? It was a recent issue that was brought up in an October New York Time's piece, which solicited some rather violent remarks.

Our interactive website about Glee songs, Glee Faves, has garnered quite a bit of attention as of late. Please check the site out for current discourse on the various hot button issues, at: http://www.squidoo.com/gleefaves.
