Who are Drink and Drive Safe? Drink and Drive Safe

Drink and drive safe was created to empower people to drink socially and inform people when it is 100% safe to drive. It was set up by philanthropist Toby Cruse after one of his close friends was convicted of drink driving after being randomly stopped by police. Although Toby didn’t believe that he was over the limit after drinking the night before, after completing a breathalyser test, he was found to be over the limit. Subsequently, Toby was convicted, which lead to limitations occurring in his life, including losing his job.

From time to time, there may be times when we decide to drink, then drive: Driving to work in order to avoid walking in the rain Travelling home after going to a party Jumping in our car after going to a sports game or watching sports Driving after going to a fair with friends or family

At Drink and Drive safe, we do not encourage drinking and driving However, we do acknowledge that some people do drive after drinking. In such cases, we signpost individuals to the Drink and Drive Safe website. This allows people to discover more information regarding drink driving, particularly to find out when it is safe to drink and drive. Ultimately, we only recommend people drive when it is 100% safe to do so. These conditions are: no alcohol consumption, focussing on the road, staying within the speed limit and driving on sunny days without distractions.

So what exactly are the limits? The limits are measures by milligrams per 100 millilitres of breath, blood or urine. These values are 35, 80 and 107 correspondingly. In Scotland, the values are lower at 22, 50 and 67. However, these numbers are only guidelines. The main factors which affect how alcohol sits in our body include weight, age, sex and metabolism (rate body uses energy). Other factors include type of alcohol consumed, concentration of alcohol drunk, food consumed and mood. Resultingly, this means that as each person is different, they can be affected by alcohol to greater or lesser extents.

After drinking, how do I know if I am safe to drive? The most certain way to make sure it is safe to drive after drinking is by using the same method the police use: a breathalyser test. We highly recommend anyone who drinks and uses vehicles to buy one of these. They can be purchased through our website, where you can also find other related products such as Alka-Seltzer tablets.
