David Alexandre Vaz Pinto was born in January 9, 1991, in Lisbon. In 2005, he starts the General Arts Course of Escola Secundária Artística António Arroio (one of the two Portuguese Specialized Secondary Schools of Arts) where he had contact in the first year with different specialities ( silk-screen printing, textiles, jewellery, ceramics, cinema, graphic design, and product design). He follows the course of Product Design where he develops disassemblable lines of furniture and had contact with systems of representation, from hand drawing to computerized drawing, and prototyping of models. He finishes the course in 2008 with a final average mark of 15, and 19 in the Final Skills Test (PAAProva de Aptidão Artística) Still in 2008, he starts his graduation in architecture at the Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa, where it was possible to get to know important notions regarding the conceptualization of architecture projects. In 2012, he finishes his graduation in Sciences Of Architecture with a final mark of 15. Still in 2012, he starts the Master´s Degree Program in Architecture at Faculdade de Arquitectura de Lisboa. Of the key areas learned here it should be underlined the Urbanism and Urban Planning, which had not yet been approached. Because of the interest of the project theme developedin year 5 in the requalification of an illicit genesis area, in 2013 he starts the Dissertation and the Final Project of the Master´s Degree with the topic: “To redesign and prequalify the casual site - The recollection and the pre-existences as a basis of the project”, by develloping a urban and social requalification project based on the memories and pre-existences of the local and the population that lived in the area. He graduates in 20014 with an average mark of 14 and a mark of 17 in the Dissertation and the Final Project of the Master´s Degree.

OFFICIAL RESIDENCE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE CITY HALL Rato I Lisbon

The Official Residence situated in a vacant site between Rua de São Bento and Rua da Escola Politécnica comprehends a public route which has an art gallery and which links the lower portion of the place (Largo Hintze Ribeiro) to the upper portion compensating for a drop of 10 metres. It is composed of a public area made up of a reception area, bar and a pavilion for guests, and a private area composed of the intimate areas of the building. The transition between both areas is made through the office of the president. It is intended a follow-up of the project with the involving construction by means of a vertical volume, which opens to the square and which establishes a visual relation between Rua da Escola Politécnica and Rua de São Bento.

A tower for communications of a naval traffic and fire prevention of the Baixa-Chiado should be placed on a strategic point of the city. It was chosen a place at the crossroad of the Rua de São Mamede with the Calçada do Correio Veho and the Calçada Conde de Penafiel. Located in the historic part of Lisbon, the street layout crosses four parishes namely: Sé, São Cristovão, São Lourenço, Madalena and Santiago. It is also marked by a steep stairway (“escadinhas de São Crispim”) that links the place to the parish of Castelo. The place holds several important happenings in this historic area of the Lisbon city, and this project intends to them by means of the extension of the local route (stairway of São Crispim) The idea of extending this public route would create the tower itself, working as a system that would generate more spaces as it was covered, spaces which in turn would allow such relations with other important points of the city (the Castle, the black horse square, the old downtown and the facing hill)

SALES PROMOTION STAND Praça da Figueira I Lisbon

This project was developed in two phases, i.e., the projection of 16 luxury apartments and of a sales promotion facility for that intervention. The dwelling will be built in the block which physically divides the squares of D. Pedro IV and Figueira. The first step of the project fell upon the construction of a sales promotion stand which being possible to be on the surrounding area around the block where the dwelling would be designed, would have to depict what the habitational project would become. The proposal offered was based on the rhythm that the façades create in this area, the “fulls and empties” that the blocks generate, by the Figueira Square network as well as by the other routes, and by the cut out view of buildings that both hills provide to. As the habitation programme required a car parking, the access of which was by means of the one existing in the Figueira Square, I have decided that the Sales Promotion Stand would be the connecting point between Habitation-Parking-Surrounding. Once the car parking is used by lots of people, the stand was implanted on the main staircase that has access to the park, creating a cover over those, and showing the users the atmosphere and the rhythm that will be created with the habitation project.

COLLECTIVE HOUSING Praça da Figueira I Lisbon

Housing structure on the block which forms the limit between D. Pedro IV Square and Figueira Square. The conception has as principal element the urban mesh of downtown Chiado. After a space analysis it is noticed that the surrounding area is characterized by the rhythm that the façades create, by the fulls and empties of the blocks, by the Figueira Square network, as well as the other routes and by the cut out view of buildings that both hills offer us. Based on this, and according to the programme the housing began to be designed in three volumes which create two empty spaces between themselves. These volumes mark different areas, such as the kitchen of Pastelaria Suiça and of the restaurant, the storage area, staircase boxes and toilets. As for the other volumes, in the apartment area one of the volumes confers a private feature while the other one confers a social nature, and the central volume the distribution element for both of them.

Collective Housing

The downtown is composed of a high number of shops which are in almost all the ortogonal network of this area. The creation of three volumes is due to the search for the approximation to the life styles occur in this area, but in a microscale, where the commercial area would happen in the Rossio and Figueira Square elevation, in a game of conditionating to customers which force them to go from one shop to another.

TO REDESIGN AND REQUALIFY THE CASUAL SITE The recollection and the pre-existences as a basis of the project Bairro do Barruncho, Odivelas Teacher I Arch. Pedro Rodrigues

The Bairro do Barruncho is located in the boundary between the parish of Póvoa de Santo Adrião and the parish of Odivelas, on a somewhat rough ground and which began to form in the 60´s. It has a predominance of aggregates of African origin, mostly cape Verdean, and 40% of Portuguese nationality. It´s composed of a high number of precarious constructions (shanties), where there are about 130 households without any hygiene conditions. The starting conceptual point for the development of this proposal was to continue the identity of a place deeply marked by social interchange and integrate it into the urban fabric of the city. Thus, it was developed an urban plan that suggests in a rational and controlled way, the proper organization which was present in the neighbourhood of Barruncho, evolutionary single family housing and with minimum areas, and public equipments articulators of the plan, having been developed in this final Master´s degree project a Community Centre in the hub of the district.

Programme: A private area for each artist in which his/her activity and rest will take place, and an area where the services will come together, which will be common. Each and every private area is composed of the following areas: 1. A workspace: from 20-30 square metres , where the artist will develop his/her activity (for plastic artists: sculpture; painting; video; photography; architecture; design; fashion; etc.) 2. A rest and grooming area: from 15 to 20 square metres, which will hold enough accommodation space for one or two persons, a storage area and a grooming area. The common area should be enough to accommodate the programme of services and social relations or users: dining room and preparation area and food storage, laundry and residence area and exhibition of the work performed.

24º Concurso Ibérico de Soluciones Constructivas

El proyecto se localiza al sur de la ciudad de Madrid en el antiguo matadero de Madrid. Actualmente este edificio se encuentra habilitado para albergar diversas formas de arte como música, pintura, escultura, arquitectura etc. La propuesta que presentamos para la nave 8 intenta responder a las necesidades de espacios de trabajo para los diferentes artistas así como espacios de descansos y áreas comunes (zonas de exposición de trabajos, comidas, etc…)

El programa exige zonas privativas para cada artista, compuestas por un espacio de trabajo (entre 20 y 30m2) y un área de descanso (de 15 a 20m2), debiendo esta zona de descanso alojar uno o dos artistas, poseer una zona de almacenaje e una zona de aseo personal. Para cada grupo de cinco zonas privativas deberían crearse una zona común que incluya un espacio para comidas, manipulación de alimentos y lavandería.

Vista de uno de los espacios de exhibición e performances de la zona común.

Imagen utilizada para el diseño del techo, a través de una placa PLADUR TR fue posible la perforación deseada para obtener el diseño buscado.

La utilización de focos de luz por detrás de estas placas permitió la proyección de la imagen creando una atmosfera artística y propia para este espacio.

First project developed in the Product Design Course. The intended goals fell upon an ergonomic model, whose purpose was sit on. The product should pass on a creative process, an aesthetic sensitivity and an interaction with the user in order to meet his/her needs. The product is translated into a piece of furniture which can be used as a low or high stool. It can also be disassembled allowing for easy transportation and storage. The materials used are low cost which facilities its production and reuse.

BAR TABLE Teacher: Designer Paulino Chaveiro

The project developed at the end of the Product Design Course was a line of equipment for a bar created by team work. This line consists of: a high table and stool, a cafeteria table and stool and one collective bench. From this line I intended to develop the cafeteria table by means of a minimalist concept in which the design of the table shows a simple and neat shape, which can be drawn in 3 lines. The table developed is made of iron, wood and Trespa which are cheap materials and of easy maintenance. It can also be disassembled and easily carried and stored.
