Shamong’s Greg Smith Wins Best of Show at Smithville Shamong, NJ Shamong resident Greg Smith has won Best of Show at the 2012 Annual Juried Art Show at the Smithville Mansion Annex Gallery in Eastampton, NJ. His oil painting, “Three Waves,” was chosen from among 125 artworks appearing in the exhibition. The works of 68 artists were selected for the show. Sponsored by the Burlington County Board of Chosen Freeholders, the Annual Juried Show is in its 36 th year and includes works by artists from New Jersey, Delaware, and Pennsylvania, with a vast variety of subjects, media, and techniques represented. The artworks were judged by portrait artist John Ennis. “This painting, ‘Three Waves,’ is one of my personal favorites,” said Smith. “It’s done with oil and acrylic on canvas, which is a combination that suits my eye and my painting style. Acrylics can have a very strong, almost electric look, which I like, but only for highlights here and there. Painting oils over them tones down the acrylics’ visual ‘pop’ a bit and adds multiple layers of density and depth, helping to give a more timeless feeling to the image.” A resident of Shamong since 1993, Smith has received a number of awards in various exhibitions in South Jersey, and several of his paintings have been selected for the Permanent Collection at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He is also an award-winning photographer, whose work has appeared in advertising and on magazine covers nationwide. He has received numerous design awards, including the Vision Award, Communicator Crystal Award, Summit Award, Silver Telly Award, Gold Telly Award, and others. The Annual Juried Show, which opened September 20 th, is held each year at the Smithville Mansion Annex Gallery. This year’s show will run through Thursday, November 1 st. The gallery is open to visitors Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. ###
