Hardwick Grove

Remodel & Extensions

Stage - Complete Style - Contemporary Footprint - 320m² The client for this luxury five bedroom home was an experienced self-builder with exacting standards and an eye for detail. Situated within the historic and sought after Park Estate in Nottingham, the site was occupied by an existing detached home that had fallen into disrepair. Due to the historic nature of the Park’s urban layout, this plot is overlooked and constrained by restrictive boundaries.

Generous open plan living was a focus of this project with a glazed rear facade capitalising on the prominence of rear views across the city.

Creating a T-shaped configuration was key to taking full advantage of daylight in our design. Marking a clear divide between private and open spaces helped us to build a comfortable environment for a growing family. Double height glazing at the apex of the front elevation encloses an eight-meter-high hall and provides an inviting welcome to the five-bedroom home.

D e s p i te d i s t i n c t d i f fe r e n c e s to t h e surrounding buildings this project was granted planning permission upon first application, reinforcing the success of this design.

By incorporating high quality materials such as Zinc, Slate, Render and Cedar we have complimented the modern approach to the interior and exterior forms of the design.

“Swish was able to create a beautiful home for my family and I, in a way that I could never have imagined alone.” - Mrs Hicks

Holme Road

Remodel & Extensions

Stage - Complete Style - Contemporary & Traditional Footprint - 240m² The client for this project was a growing family living in a detached home that no longer met their needs. The end result is a beautiful five bedroom home that addresses the heritage of the area in its use of materials and building characteristics.

Build Cost - £200,000 End Value - £800,000 The success of this project is in the subtlety of its unassuming presence that conceals the distinctly contemporary architectural approach to the interior and rear of the home.

With a preference for modern design, our client agreed with our approach to treat the front and rear of the property as two separate entities. At the front of the building we have introduced a traditional gabled roof form with intricate dentil course brick detailing and enhanced existing stone window surrounds to reinforce the historic street scene. Simultaneously in designing the rear we have incorporated bi-fold doors and Velux windows in a clearly modern way to promote outdoor living.

“Dino’s sense of design, knowledge and vision were imperative to the success of our project.” - Mr and Mrs Fuller

Ranmore

Remodel & Extensions

Stage - Complete Style - Contemporary Footprint - 210m² At Ranmore we were challenged to incorporate an impressive development of useable space within the loft and outward within the existing rear amenity space turning this small three bedroom bungalow into a luxury four bedroom family home. With no coherent style of architecture or consistent build quality in the area, the design we proposed brought a modest, m o d e r n a p p ro a c h to t h e r e s i d e n c e . With the existing property infringing upon the boundaries we were challenged to design and incorporate an impressive development of useable space within the loft and outward within the existing rear amenity space.

Build Cost - £180,000 End Value - £695,000 The double height glazed entrance is extruded forward of the property to gain additional space and become a prominent feature on the street scene. Other characteristics that add to the overall success of this scheme include expansive corner bi-fold doors that allow the open plan interior to bleed into the landscaped outdoor living area. As one of our earliest projects this design is a successful example of a small residential transformation that has an impact much greater than its size.

“I have recommended Swish to many friends who required planning or help with a design” - Jackie Mather

Chantrey

Remodel & Extension

Stage - Complete Style - Contemporary Footprint - 90m² This small West Bridgford bungalow did not meet the spatial requirements of its owner calling for a single storey extension at the rear in order to achieve a more desirable and functional home. A common issue for growing families, there are many possible solutions for extending a property ranging from traditional pitched roofs to contemporary flat roofs with orangeries, all offering the possibility to reconfigure internal spaces to work better for you.

Build Cost - £30,000 End Value - £305,000 The introduction of a new open plan living area has freed space from what was once the lounge meaning we were able to bring an additional bedroom to the proper ty w h i l e s i m u l t a n e o u s l y i m p rov i n g t h e quality and value of the rest of the house. This project is a prime example of a two-bed bungalow with the addition of a simple single storey extension becoming a desirable threebed home with enviable modern living space.

Chantrey benefited from a considerable rear amenity space meaning we were able to propose a large contemporary addition containing a bright open plan living space.

“I have no hesitation in recommending Dino, and hope to work with Swish again on my next project.” - Alan Lindsey

Dovecote

Remodel & Extensions

Stage - In Progress Style - Contemporary Footprint - 260m² This project brings this dilapidated two bedroom bungalow an addition of much needed space in order to create a luxury four bedroom home for our client’s expanding family. The design modernises and maintains the existing gabled front elevation whilst introducing a twin gable housing a two-storey side extension to bring a sense of completeness and symmetry to the design.

Our treatment of the design and finish of this building with modern materials and glazing results in a home that is considerate of its surroundings whilst offering a unique place to live for this deserving family.

Internally we have reconfigured the new larger spaces to create a generous open plan living area at the rear of the property alongside a separate study, lounge and adjoining garage.

“Their ability to be creative within the limits of our site and budget made the very most of the opportunity.” - Caroline Sharpe

The Grange

Remodel & Extensions

Stage - In Progress Style - Contemporary & Traditional Footprint - 450m² Built in 1910, The Grange in Beeston is a grand and beautiful four bedroom home situated in the St. John’s Grove conservation area. Currently an outdated single-storey extension awkwardly adjoins the building, detracting from its overall grandeur. An ambitious and creative self-builder is the client for this project and his vision for a new luxury five bedroom home is to reinstate the presence of the Grange by combining and contrasting new and old with a bold, contemporary addition that compliments the existing structure. The design consists of a two-storey side and wrap around extension that works together with a reconfiguration of the original house to create; five luxurious bedrooms, a generous open plan living space, a grand feature entrance hall, a cinema room, a study and additional formal and informal lounges.

Build Cost - £400,000 Projected Value - £1.5 M In order to best address the heritage of the site, the design aims to retain and enhance existing features with considerable repair works. Bringing the building to a point of quality like new is essential to prolonging the life of the structure and improving the internal environment. A two story façade of glass pours light into the new open plan living area while creating a passive external presence in relation to the existing brickwork. Above and within the glass is a unique copper canopy feature that ties the modern to traditional with a striking flash of colour. Behind the façade is an atrium containing a dramatic bridge link that connects the first floor bedrooms. As a whole, this iconic new scheme is unlike anything that has come before and will be a true realization of the client’s innovative approach to modern conservation.

“I can’t wait to break ground on this exciting new project, and I’m certain it will exceed all of our expectations.” - Mrs Labbate

Church End Farm

Extension

Stage - Complete Style - Traditional Footprint - 25m² An orangery is one of the many options possible when extending an existing dwelling. This approach offers an abundance of light unlike a solidly constructed extension as well as a level of style and quality that far surpasses that of a simple conservatory. Possible to build in a contemporary or traditional form, this versatile addition can create a fantastic new space for your home.

At Church End, we have designed a bold new orangery in a traditional style, and painted in a subtle olive green colour that contains a bright new living space that works to complement the existing farm house. This project is a stunning example of a relatively small extension adding an immense depth of character and style to an existing building.

“Swish’s relationship with us and our builder, flexibility and desire to listen resulted in a very successful partnership.” - Mr and Mrs Booth

Redland Drive

New Build Dwelling

Stage - Complete Style - Contemporary Footprint - 150m²

Build Cost - £150,000 End Value - £330,000

We have taken an open plan living approach within the core of the house with a double height apex glazed frontage and balcony to flood the interior with natural light.

We have taken an open plan living approach within the core of the house with a double height apex glazed frontage and balcony to flood the interior with natural light.

Situated within Chilwell in Nottingham, the site was a small vacant plot with a dramatic change in level. In a mid-century housing estate with no consistent architectural style, the site is restricted on all sides by overlooking neighbouring properties and a retaining wall requiring a creative design solution to maximise its potential.

Unique features such as the specially fabricated loft and entrance stairs come together to create a contemporary interior of high quality and lasting style. This project is a successful example of economical design making use of a disregarded plot to create a one-off and desirable home.

Designing around a traditional front to back aspect design was crucial due to the sites restrictions. Eliminating a drastic level change internally, the home has a bespoke stair case within the lobby entrance the achieve a consistent floor level above.

“I was extremely impressed both by the interesting design proposals Swish put forward, and the quick response.” - Mrs Labbate

New Build Dwelling

Stage - Under Construction Style - Traditional Footprint - 270m² The existing dilapidated bungalow on this rural site did not fit the needs of the client and his growing family, resulting in our proposal for a beautiful five bedroom home in a traditional yet contemporary feeling style In order to achieve the most successful design possible for the site we have remained sympathetic to the local country style and context, whilst introducing grand modern features that enhance the scheme for the client and the immediate vernacular.

Build Cost - £300,000 Projected Value - £1 M We took particular consideration of the front elevation, making use of reclaimed brick and dual coloured dentil coursing to complement our traditional approach. Alongside brick, we have accented the design with an oak entrance structure, containing aluminium windows that frame views of the grand interior and aspects out into the surrounding grounds.

Cheadle Close

New Build Dwelling

Stage - Under Construction Style - Contemporary Footprint - 205m² A married couple living in a detached 1960s house, benefiting from a large corner plot, were the clients for this contemporary five bedroom new build. Abstracting the traditional pitched roof form in a contemporary style, and making use of modern materials such as cream render, cedar cladding and split faced tiles allows this design to achieve its full potential.

Carefully considering the design of the roof plan reduced the overbearing impact and overshadowing on neighbouring proper ties maintaining the continuity of the existing street scene. One Cheadle Close is a successful example of inside-out liv ing a nd a contemporary open plan design resulting in a home with longevity for our client.

“Making use of this corner plot Swish has helped us realise our dream of building our own modern family home. - Mrs Casimiro

Reindeer Inn

New Build Dwellings

Stage - Under Construction Style - Traditional Footprint - 390m² The clients for this project were two brothers hoping to move their young families to the same location in East Bridgford. The site is currently backs directly onto a greenbelt conservation area bringing fantastic views as well as additional planning considerations. The two five bedroom dwellings and additional outbuilding have been designed in a traditional New England style and will be constructed using a mix of Reclaimed Red Facing Brick, Lime Washed Render, Clay Pan Tiles with Timber Cladding to the front and rear gables. The dwellings have been designed to promote the ingress of natural light, making the property feel larger and spacious and each have rear balconies that overlook their own paddocks.

Due to the layout of the property and the size of the site, access to the rear garden will be easily available. This development is a successful example of meeting a client’s ver y par ticular expectations whilst maintaining a sympathetic traditional approach to new build design that will stand the test of time.
