SPRING/ SUMMER 2021

WELCOME BACK TO

ome r d o p ip H n o t g in l r a D Dear theatregoer,

Front cover image - Dragons and Mythical Beasts Friday 8 October - Sunday 10 October 2021

It is hard to believe that it’s been over a year since we released our last major brochure of this scale. Like everyone else we were looking at 2020 with a great sense of anticipation for what promised to be one of our strongest lineup of events for some time. As we know, that sense of anticipation was turned on its head with the announcement that all theatres in the country were to close. Over the last twelve months we’ve done a tremendous amount of work to keep the theatre viable through the pandemic and to ensure the venue’s future success. We have been so fortunate that our applications for Culture Recovery Fund grants were accepted and we were awarded £1m in the first round and £499,304 in the second round of funding by Arts Council England. These grants have been a lifeline allowing us the opportunity to navigate this difficult period. As a result of the hard work of the theatre’s dedicated staff and the Culture Recovery Fund grants we have been able to present a host of activities both onstage (where possible) and online to keep Darlington audiences healthy in body, mind and spirit. We are now in a position to be able to look ahead to a brighter future and we are proud to present this spring and summer season brochure full to overflowing with live theatre, classic cinema, summer events, workshops and classes. Our plan is to re-open to the public once more on Monday 17 May following current government guidelines, naturally our priority will be for the health and safety of our audiences. 2 | www.darlingtonhippodrome.co.uk

To this end you will notice we are utilising three different seating arrangements in line with the on-going roadmap restrictions. Some performances are on sale with a 2m+ socially distanced seating plan, others at a revised 1m+ seating arrangement and shows taking place later in the year are being sold at our usual 100% capacity. Should any guidance change following the production of this brochure we will of course inform you all of any amendments and be in contact with all bookers with full details and options available. I hope you enjoy reading about the vibrant and varied programme we have on offer in this brochure taking us into 2022 and beyond, and I look forward to welcoming you soon to Darlington Hippodrome.

Heather Tarran-Jones

Programming and Development Director

We are proud to have been granted the use of the ‘See It Safely’ mark. This certifies that we are complying with the latest Government and industry COVID-19 guidelines, to ensure the safety of our staff and audiences.
