Welcome

Welcome to the 29th Annual Joe Manchin Tournament. There is no better way to head into the holiday season and the new year than to honor a man who dedicated his life to helping others. This Tournament is a fitting tribute to a man who has spent countless hours working for the good of the people of this University, this region and the great state of West Virginia. The Joe Manchin Tournament has been and will remain a highlight of the University’s basketball season. This year, after a year long wait, we hold the first tournament in T. Edward Davis Gymnasium after the building renovation. We are please to be back in our own comfortable confines with the new Connor floor. The Tournament would not be possible without the support and help from a tremendous staff. First and foremost, recognition needs to be given to Tanner Hill who spearheaded the planning as the Tournament Director. Sports Information Director David Oliverio has produced this program and his staff professionally handles all of the game statistics. Frank Harrison coordinates the hospitality room

and organizes the halftime youth basketball games. Also thanks to the entire Salem International Athletic Department and the facilities staff. They remained steadfast through all of the plans that were made and contribute in various capacities throughout the event. I would like to thank the SIU Auxiliary Club for providing Coaching Polo’s for all the participating head coaches. Our Tournament hotels, the Days Inn, the Sutton Inn, and the Wingate Inn have again been very supportive and always treat our visiting teams well. Lastly, thanks to teams, coaches, trainers and fans. I hope that you enjoy the tournament as much as we enjoy providing it to you. I wish all the teams good luck and safe travels who will be on the road at the conclusion of the Tournament.
