Abilitly to produce complex form while remaining relative low cost. Ability to easy modify and update drawings compared to 2D AutoCAD. Can be scripted so the computer does most the work for you. Again saving time and cost. Able to create a geometry set which is based of natural systems which can be replicated in the built environment.

Clients will always change their mind and so will your drawings, then they will sometimes change back to their original needs. In 2D CAD this can be utter frustration, in BIM/ Digital 3D modelling it becomes bearable.

Every location will have different laws and regulations restricting building type and size. When drawings go to planning there are most likely always going to be changes needed.

Cost and staying under cost if possible is one the most important aspects of any project. The best way to save costs is usually to reduce the area of the building.

Number of people and laws apply to the requirement of square meters per person needed. These change also depending on the type of building being constructed.

Creating clean framework or known as construction lines is one of Digital Projects major strengths. The ability to mass out floor areas based on calculations and adjust them when needed, due to numbers, cost or site coverage is much easier than in 2D programs such as AutoCAD in which the drawings would have to be reworked over.

This keeps all within constrained to this diamond, for keeping the model clean.

Main Facade Constraint

This is the main constraint that the facade will use. This is constrained to the diameter/ radius of the two circles. When the circles sizes change the oval moves with them.

Used to connect the line work cleanly to the circles.

Extrusions to the facade are more evident the higher up the geomtry of the facade goes as this is set back to the x/y axis with a length parameter which increases the further from this axis.

Problems arise when the global divider is set above 2.0. Errors start to take place with the geometry of the facade.

View showing the 9 pointed star in the ceiling roof. Done very easily in Digital Project while would be much harder in 2D CAD or even Rhino3D.

For the complex roofwork I have used 2 planes at different vertical heights, then used construction framework circle with points constrained to it. From there the Splines are used to connect the Points and then a Fill is used to create the complex roof. As this is all constrained to the underlying framwork, the Radius can be changed and with it the roof perimeter changes.
