Troops to Teachers: Meet our State Grant Offices State Incentives for Military: Fee Waiver- The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has eliminated fees for educator licenses to recognize the contributions of military veterans. For certification questions or other information regarding the processing of your military certification fee reimbursement, please contact the Michigan Department of Education Customer Services Center at MDE-EducatorHelp@michigan.gov Certification Extension- A member of the Armed Forces or National Guard who is called to active duty, and who, at the time of deployment, holds a valid educator license in Michigan is entitled to have the license extended for a period of time commensurate with the length of active duty service. State Continuing Education Clock hours (SCHECH) are earned by educators who attend professional development activities approved by the Michigan Department of Education. These hours may be used towards renewal of certificates and licenses issued by the MDE, Office of Educator Excellence (OEE). Military veterans may use active-duty-related training only if prior authorization is given by OEE.
