We have quite a small reading group, only three people. We all work together sometimes, and other times we work alone. Ms Freehill sometimes meets with us. We have a whole list of things to do. I also agree with Olga and Erica, because we all have different opinions of questions where they ask us what we would do or think. We have read books in our reading books. They were about natural disasters like hurricanes, storms, lightning, tornadoes, and more. We read a book about earthquakes, and it was pretty good. The similes were descriptive, but the metaphors were not as great. The grammar we have been doing during Morning Work includes:
conjunctions and compound sentences. On school house rocks, there is a song Conjunction Junction. Ms Freehill uses funky little songs to help us remember things, like this one: " Compound Sentences have a comma and a conjunction." There are hand motions to go with it, too. Subject and Predicates have been good. I learned them in third grade, but I had forgot, so I was glad for the refresher. We also learned about the genres of writing. They are: narrative (stories, plays, etc) expository( essays) descriptive( poetry, who am I questions, sensory language, and more) and finally persuasive, which is when you try to convince, or talk someone into doing something you want them to do. Asking questions and monitoring and clarifying are good strategies. Also,

In writing we have been doing many things. We started off doing our podcast of our secret locations. If you go on our portfolios, you can listen to all of our secret locations. We also published a poem about storms. On Thursday, we started learning about how to use an introduction in a story. One of the different types of introductions is a shocker. Currently in room 126 there have been many new exciting things that have been going on. This week in Language Arts, we worked on our first expository essay. We also read a non-fiction selection called "Volcanoes" that taught us about different types of volcanoes and the aftermath of their eruptions. We watched a YouTube clip of famous volcanoes and saw eruptions shown from on-site webcams. We had a spelling test on Thursday.

introduction. A descriptive introduction a description of a connected event. The next one is a personal anecdote. A personal anecdote is a personal connection to the topic. The last one is a question introduction. A question introduction is to ask a question connected to the topic. That is what we have been learning in writing. Music-In music we are learning about different composers. This week we are learning about Gustav Holst. Our class is listening to his famous piece "The Planets". It is a very enjoyable piece to listen to. Gym- In gym we are playing lots of fun and exciting games. We are in the middle of the Soccer Unit. We are learning overhead throwing, punting, and goalie kick. We are also learning the different positions. In Gym every class has a sticker chart. The sticker chart is a opportunity to play what
school students from GBN came to talk to us about how it affects our bodies and how many people can die from it. We learned a very important lesson about not to smoke. The walk for Wescott is a fundraiser that supports charities and gives money to our school. you want if you and your class is good. The class at the end of the year gets a party and you get to choose games. Art- In art we are making 3d Halloween houses and Halloween pots. We drew Halloween houses with sharpies and colored them and next week we are going to paste them on colored paper. We made pots for Halloween also. Next we we are going to paint them and take them home for Halloween. It was really fun especially the pinch pots. We cant wait to paint them! By: Emily and Michelle R.

breaking words down are good too. Picture walking and predicting are really good, too. I like these strategies because they really help me when I am reading at home. One of my favorite things to do are read and write. We read a book that was expository about a storm chaser, Warren Faidley. He is brave, because he goes into all sorts of storms, just to take pictures. I liked that book, and now he has inspired me to want to take pictures of writing. Sensory writing is one of my favorite things to work on. There are so many juicy words in the whole wide world just waiting to be used up by me in my great writing and reading pieces. I like this because it is really fun for me.

The selection that we are reading are about natural disasters. The first story that we read was Earthquake Terror.
vegetables like el maiz means corn, la calabaza means pumpkin,and las zanahorias means carrot. We also learned about numbers 1 to 100 like dies y seis is sixteen. We learned colors like verde means green and amarillo is yellow. I think that it is really fun to learn another language like Spanish. It was about a boy named Jonathan who is 12 and his sister Abby who is 6. The second story is called El Nino. It's about a part of the water that is by Indonisa that gets warmer then usual.

In reading we have learned a lot of
different things like Grammar. In grammar we have learned about subject\predicate, conjunctions, and compound sentences. Also in our
reading text books we have been reading about earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, and we are starting to read and learn about volcanoes. We also
have guided reading groups which are fun too. In the beggnning of the year we read a story called Eye of the Storm by Warren Faidley.
