The Meaning of Life The meaning of life is different for every person. To me, the meaning of life is to make the most of everyday and make the world a better place than when you came into it. Making the world a better place sounds like a huge goal, but simply improving one person’s day makes a bigger difference

than people notice. When on the negatives that we it comes down to it, life is forget about the positives. short. There simply isn’t time to hold grudges against people. Drama is pointless and a waste of time. At the end of the day there are many more positives than negatives in our lives. People spend too much time dwelling

Time Capsule If I had to represent myself with five items I would choose my assignment notebook, a volleyball, a Francesca’s shopping bag, my iPhone, and a Penguins jersey. My assignment notebook would go into the time capsule because it shows what I do on a day to day basis. Not only does it show my school work, I have all of my other plans written in it too. I would put in a vol-

written in it too. I would put in a volleyball because I spent a portion of my life playing. It would reflect on that time and show I was an athlete. Francesca’s is my favorite store to shop at and I spend the majority of my free time shopping. I enjoy shopping and it also is a stress reliever. Nothing is wrong with a good shopping trip! There is rarely a time when I am caught without my phone. I’m not

always on it, but I almost always have it with me. People have become reliant on their phones, and I believe in a time capsule it would show how people were. Finally, I would put in a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey. I am a die hard hockey fan and the Penguins are my favorite team. It would have to be a Sidney Crosby jersey because I am in love with him.

Achievements Being accepted into Indiana University is my biggest triumph to date. After I applied waiting to hear back about it felt like eternity. One day when I got home from school I walked through the door and saw the letter sitting on the table. After a few minutes I had built up the courage to finally open the envelope and see their decision. Opening the letter I was extremely nervous and extremely excited. Reading that I had been accepted was the most rewarding

feeling. My goal has been to go to IU since I was a little kid. Both of my parents went there and it has been the only college I have ever really considered. Nothing thus far can compare to that moment. Getting accepted into IU taught me that hard work does pay off. All of the late nights studying and doing my homework was all worth it. I am going to carry the same, if not better, work ethic with me to college. Now that I have accomplished this goal, I can’t wait to

start making new goals for college. Once I got into Indiana University I realized if you work hard towards your goal that you can achieve it. (203)

Future Goals Next year I am going to attend Indiana University. As of right now my goal is to graduate with a major in psychology. For a long time I was unsure of what I wanted to major in. I spent time thinking about it, and I decided that psychology would be a great fit. I took AP psychology in high school and it was one of my favorite classes. I actually looked forward

to going to that class. I hope that I will enjoy it as much in college and will want to pursue it as a career. It isn’t going to be an easy transition going from high school to college. I am a hard working, determined student and I plan to continue that at IU. College is going to be more work, so I will have to work even harder. Staying focused on school and my studies will be

more difficult with all of the freedom. I will have to have more responsibility. No one will be there to keep me on track; I will have to do it myself and want to achieve my goals. I believe if I keep the same work ethic I will be able to continue to achieve my goals. (206)

What I Will Miss the Most When thinking about leaving for college in the fall, one particular thing pops into my mind, my parents. My parents have always been there for me and have gotten me through everything in my life up to this point. I have never had to be without them. Next year will be an enormous adjustment. It isn’t just the big things I’ll miss either. I’ll miss the simple things

like coming home from school and my mom asking how my day went, or my dad helping me study for a test. I don’t want to even think about the fact that I will have to start doing my own laundry. Their endless support will continue; it will just be a long distance relationship. Laundry is a big reason why I can’t think about leaving my mom. No one

will be able to replace what my parents have done for me throughout my life. Even though I won’t be living with them next year, that doesn’t mean that they will stop having an influence on me. I will surprisingly miss their constant nagging and invasion of my personal life. My day to day life won’t be the same without them in it. (200)

Most Influential Person Nothing is more inspiring than a strong, hardworking, brave woman. My mother is all of the qualities and is the most inspirational person I have been privileged to meet. The greatest part about her is that she helps me strive to be as astonishing as she has become. Every goal I have in life is because of her, and is pursued with her support. My mom, arms extended towards me, has never been as proud of me as the mo-

ment I received my acceptance letter to my college of choice, Indiana University. Together we have been working towards this goal for 12 years. She has always been there in my moments of need and my moments of countless achievements. Since my mom never attended college, she’s pushed me to my boundaries to make sure that I could have that experience. Even without a college education she

has been a successful woman. There is no one else I would rather be like. I strive to become the women my mother is today. My mother is always there to be honest with me, even though I might not always want to hear the truth. Even though I’ll be leaving for college soon, I will continue to be the person my mom has taught me to be and strive to become the person she believes I can become. (225)

As a Daughter

“I don't care how poor a man is; if he has family, he's rich.” Dan Wilcox

Being a daughter has taught me the true meaning of being thankful. Everyday my parents have done their personal best to better my life in every single way. Nothing I do will ever be enough to repay them. From this I have learned to love people even when they have nothing to give in return, love people when they least deserve it, and love people to the fullest every day. With all of the love and sup-

port that comes along with being a daughter, comes an equal amount of stress and pressure. Disappointing the people who believe in you the most is the worst feeling. Since I have this pressure, they push me to strive to be my best self. I will continue to try and repay my parents for everything they have taught me until I no longer can. They have helped me grow as a person. Not only have they helped our rela-

tionship grow, but also my relationships with other people. Being a daughter helps me be a more caring and understanding person. Even though being a daughter has its ups and downs, being a daughter will always be my favorite person to be. (198)

Remembered As Walking through the doors on my first day of high school I expected to fly under the radar. I didn’t want to get caught up in pointless drama. Throughout my high school career I have tried to establish a positive connotation with myself. Leaving high school I hope my peers remember me as someone who was hard working and an optimistic individual to be around. As

a student I want my teachers to remember me as someone who always put all of their effort into everything that they did. I want the students around me to remember how I was someone they could go to for support and advice. I don’t want to leave high school with any grudges or unsolved problems. I want to leave on a positive note with everyone. Of course there have

been broken friendships along the way, but there have also been new friendships made and old ones fixed. Even though the friendships are no longer at their strong point, I hope that people realize that they can still find a friend in me. When my peers and I look back on myself in high school, I hope we reflect on nothing but positive traits. (200)

Sandy Hook The article reflected on the tragic events that happened in a Connecticut Elementary school early morning on December 14, 2012. Adam Lanza, the shooter, impacted this country in numerous ways. My initial reaction when first hearing the news caused my heart to sink. Shocked, I immediately informed the people surrounding me. The shooting makes me apprehend how lucky I am to attend a school that is tremendously safe, but also allows me to ponder how it would feel to partake in such a tragic occurrence. Such devastating events make me step back and consider what would happen if

BP Oil Spill The article gave information on the oil spill and the tragic events that followed because of the oil spill. All of the animals that were hurt and possibly even killed is what gets to me the most. It breaks my heart knowing that innocent animals were hurt because of carelessness from a major company. BP did not follow regulations and did not check on their pipelines, which ended up being the cause of this awful event. It is hard for me to wrap my head around the idea of the company not doing what they needed to do to keep

others safe. Even though the company lost money because of the tragedy and are still being sued for all of the damage they caused, I don't think there will ever be enough punishment for the damage they did. I’m sure they didn't think anything major could come out of them not following everything they needed to do, but hopefully they learned from their major mistake. Since they are such a large company I’m not sure if they will ever feel the consequences like they should, Even though they lost

money I don’t believe it was enough to have a lasting effect. The incident is beyond tragic and I hope all oil companies learn from BP’s mistake. (216) Press, The Associated. "Florida Sues BP Over Gulf Oil Spill." The New York Times. The New York Times, 21 Apr. 2013. Web. 16 May 2013

I choose this picture because it shows a moment when I am truly happy. It is also from one of my favorite moments of senior year with one of my best friends. It is a cheesy picture that looks posed, but it was just an in the moment type of picture. What I like most about the picture is that neither of us knew that picture was being taken. We were having one of our awkward friend moments. Our parents kept trying to take a nice picture of the two of us, but we didn’t know how to pose. Katie and I have become really close our sen-

ior year and I think this picture shows that. To me the picture means more than just a simple picture on prom night. I will be able to look back on it and see how happy I was at that point in time. The picture shows the friendship that Katie and I have and will always have. When I look back on the picture I won’t just think of the memories from prom, it’ll make hundreds of memories pop into my head. I believe that this picture captures numerous memories in what seems to be one moment. (204)

“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Dr. Seuss This quote appears to just be an elementary quote. Most people hear it numerous times without thinking much of it. I probably heard it more than ten times before it finally meant something to me. People struggle with being themselves and figuring out who they want to be. I can’t lie and say that I wasn’t in that position at one point in my life. I think as you grow older you find

out more about yourself and it makes you grow more as an individual. You can’t pretend to be someone you aren’t just so people will like you. You are going to be happiest when you are you. As simple as this quote is, it has a lot of meaning behind the words. People need to learn to be themselves. That is the only way you can truly be happy. I have learned this throughout

high school. Once you stop trying so hard everything falls into place. It truly is a meaningful quote. You have to put meaning behind the words. You have to believe the words. The happiest you can possibly be is when you are being yourself. I believe that everything will fall into place if you are just yourself. (204)

Twitter I think that society has become too reliant on social media. The idea of people “following” other people kind of disgusts me. I personally don’t use my twitter at all. I made it a few years ago and never used it. I also don’t care enough to sit there and read through people’s tweets for a long time. Even though I am against it, I understand that Twitter has more depth than it appears. I know a lot of work and effort goes into

it. I can also see how it could be helpful. It is an easy way to spread news. It could be personal news or actual news. I am also impressed that it has stayed relevant for as long as it has. It has yet to fade away like MySpace and Facebook have. I’m not sure if it will ever be something I will enjoy or take part in, but I can see why other people enjoy Twitter. I will never understand why people get so worked up about Twitter and their followers.

People worry way too much about their “following ratio”. People let social media control too much of their lives. I am not a fan of Twitter. (202) Johnson, Steven. "How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live." Time. Time, n.d. Web. 16 May 2013.

Uggs The article reflects on Ugg boots. The author of the article is defending Ugg boots and is a fan of them herself. She talks about how they might not look that great, but that they are extremely comfortable. I agree with her. I am a huge fan of Uggs and own several pair of them myself. I have boots, slippers, and moccasins. They are the perfect pair of shoes to throw on when it is cold outside. They might not

be the most fashionable shoe, but they are up there for the most comfortable. Uggs have managed to stay popular for years. I bought my first pair in sixth grade and bought my most recent pair this year. They aren’t as popular as they used to be, but you can’t walk through the hallways in the winter without seeing numerous girls wearing Uggs. I doubt I will be purchasing any more pairs of Uggs be-

cause I have enough right now. It isn’t because I don’t like them. I like how they keep the same look so your pair never goes out of style. I can still wear old pairs without anyone knowing. I don’t know how anyone can not like Uggs. (201) "Good Life: Journal: In Defense of Uggs | Philadelphia Magazine Articles." Philadelphia Magazine Articles. N.p., n.d. Web. 17 May 2013.

I just want to thank my parents. They have always been there to support me in everything that I do. I couldn't have accomplished all that I have without them. They have

been the driving force behind all of my success. Nothing I do will ever be able to pay them back for all that they have done for me. Next year is going to be so hard being away

from them, but I know they will continue to support me in everything that I do. I am so blessed to have parents who care so much about me. I can’t thank them enough!
