Urban District Overall Review

Shanhua Urban District Planning

This project is a review of the renewal project of the Shanhua district. Our main approach takes findings from empirical studies about real commuter traffic patterns. These studies reveal that the real center of traffic is Yongkang district. We wanted to change it, letting Shanhua be the regional center. we approached this review by:

10 min

Yongkang

1. strengthening the development around the Shanhua station. 2. revising the floor aera ratio and code name 3. adjusting the road type and making green TOD

We examined three different areas:

Our recommendations are as follows: Preserve the old low density area

1. a low density old area,

without much change; rezone the medium density area for mixed use; for

2. a medium density apartment area,

the high density area, reappropriate unproductive or unused blocks and

3. an area adjacent to the train station.

convert them into areas viable for commercial and residential use..

Moreover, Green Traffic is engcouraged. Changing the road types and setting the bike lanes are used to guide the public, in order to offer a variety of transportation choices. It leads to eliminate the amout of scooters and to solve illegal parking problem.

New Town Development Planning

South Tainan Culture Town Masterplan

Site

This project takes a site in the south of Tainan city and attempts to reorient traffic by building new centers of interest. In order to mitigate the spatial separation of transportation hubs that may be too far apart, we propose building greenbelts, new commercial centers and a small sports arena between select transportation hubs. By connecting the train station and the main shopping streets,we can settle c u l tu ra l a n d c re a t i ve i n d u s t ri e s to commercialize troditional products. In order to meet the needs of Tainan identity, this new town is boosted with a vigorus living and shopping area in the future.

This model is composed by 40x40 square and we put lots of different types of buildings beside the river. From upstream to downstream, there are three main type of village and they connect by the bridge and road, this not only create the mix of our home town image but extend to show the spatail structure of time traces.

TOD is applied here in Tainan, mingled with walking and cycling. Plating side trees creates much more comfortable environment in the hot and humid weather, which offers residents green bike paths to commute to this new town.

AC_CA Architecture Competition

Berlin Street Food Court Design This is a AC_CA international competition, the main goal is designing a temporary structure for gourmet street food event on Berlin TV Tower plaza. By studing urban form and special street food culture, we connected them with our site and make our design. Berliners have tasted delicacies from many corners of Berlin, but not underneath the Berliner Fernsehturm! It, and the KarlMarx-Allee, owes its existence to the socialist classism. The super blocks and monumental buildings impose huge, negative voids, thus resulting in a “street food dessert” in Central Berlin. The site, measuring 60m X 90m, is no short of an example of the lack of human touch.

The essential aspect of this “street food dessert” is the scale. In the current scale, people have to “decide” to “cross,” which means getting “out of” a building just to get “into” another; we therefore start with a semi-outdoor street food “unit” to blur this boundary, then we segregate the site into many smaller patches with suggestive cues in the pavement; the designs complete each other in a number of ways.

Prototype

Type1-looking for fun The most flexible. This is street food as its simplest, a food truck can go anywhere, anytime.

Various types of street food bloom all over Berlin, they have not only fed Berliners but also have created a street food culture; we look into the essential parts of these street food types, and work to reenact the cultural sensation.

The openess of the unit serve to blur the boundary horizontally, as people would regularly hop between units, creating layers of spaces. The steel frame’s sloping feature serve to blur the boundary vertically, as it would encourage people to venture between levels; it would also serve as a visual intermediate between the rail and the Fernsehturm’s sloping wings. At last, the created places echo with those aside it.

In the final iteration of this project, we show the how this plan evolves around a river by connecting three different areas, new and old, via road and bridge. The focus of the project was to achieve an interesting overall narrative while preserving the unique individual characteristics of each segment.
