HUB AND COMMUNITY CENTRE

Because of the extension of the Gran Canaria Airport, it is needed to re locate as soon as possible all the families living in Ojos de Garza. And it should be in a place close to there not to uproot those affected.

It has been taken into account to design the project these aspects: The strong sun light and winds around the area. The relationship existing between the natural and built space, integrating on the proposal the ravines which cross the landscape. The adaptation to the slopes. The “Hub and Community Centre project

stems from the fusion of two landmarks of the territory: A pond for rain water collection and a conservatory. The project is a pond in its ability collecting information, data, culture... and conservatory due to the simile (and of course the need) to protect those goods from the hard sun light and winds of the area.

intermediate floor plan (above) and down hill cross section (below)

In its pond quality the project acquires the square shape with round corners and, most important, the beach which serves as a solarium (with great views to the East where their home was) on the upper floor. In its conservatory quality the project acquires the coating textile membrane that allows filtered sunlight by day and, in addition, it gives lightness to the solution. To maximize this lightness, the ring or dam of the pond doesn’t touch the ground, enabling pedestrians run through to the inside of the project.

The project has three main floors: The upper floor is the extension of the street at this level. It is also the square with the great views and solarium. The intermediate floor lets run the flows of the Master Plan. And the lower one, the one of exchanging goods, has wide openings to the ravine allowing trees to enter.

CORNERS AND VIEWS

The statement of the exercise of the block located between 1ยบ de Mayo Avenue and Cairasco Square, establish two main tasks:

un

A.- Morphological character: Investigate a metamorphosis among the block, the public space and community services with an articulation in the heart of it, alternative studying more complex internal structure.

B.- Typological character: Investigate the group housing managing different types and programmes. Try to response to contemporary social demand and the construction of the relationship between housing and public spaces.

The project is about a series of patios or public spaces which hold the edification that is arranging itself as it is approaching to the lower level, the Cairasco Square. The project lines flow towards the cathedral location, a few blocks away from the site.

THE BOOK SHOP

y7

The exercise tries to solve a little residuary barren plot which has a triangular floor plan. It is on San Bernardo street at the corner of General Bravo street, attached to the house represented on the model. The plot is so little that the entrance to the book shop had to be done through the house itself. The only book shelf of the project is traversed upwards and in the end offers a great sightseeing to the tripple-height ceiling and to the street that goes far away under trees.

The project borns with the intention of holding the landscape as unchanged as possible, with a great green space featuring all the services and public space. Furthermore, it should has small streets connecting the new housing and urban amenities with the existing landmarks.

The housing network is thought as two big tapes built up by single modules which tour around the plot adapting itself with the different assemblies projected not to damage the land. Thanks to the dobleheight junction, this adaptation to the land is easy, and in the other hand, this height allowed enough public space under the lifted ones.

The main task of these two tapes is to try to connect physically all those points disjointed, like the commercial area Siete Palmas with Almatriche.

almatriche Eventually, to achieving the goal of a low percentage of housing divided by the total square meters available, the modules can stack up to six heights in what we called a “Building Type” with a big patio in the middle. Thanks to the same movements done than with the tape aforementioned, the building type is also permeable and lets the public and green space go through.

SHELF FOR THE SCHOOL

2.5 m

The exercise was a shelf project open to any kind of idea or shape, with the only task that it were useful in the courtyard of the school. The versatility of this particular shelf is due to the infinity locations of every piece after opening the whole thing. The shelf promotes a dynamic space around it depending on the different locations or uses given.
