Genasci Dairy The final hurrah ... here we are again, 5 years later and 5 years better. I am honored and saddened as I write these final thoughts today. 5 years ago I thought I would never be writing these words for Genasci dairy, and today I am sitting here again writing about an amazing five years since the last sale. I have been in the Central Valley as a large animal practitioner and owner at Lander Veterinary Clinic for 16 years and have seen a lot of dairies, but few as unique as Genasci Dairy. The owners, Edwin, Jim and Bill are some of the finest, most trustworthy people in this industry. Their reputation speaks for itself and they are known from one end of this state to the other, and beyond. Family means everything to the Genasci family and through this pandemic it has become even more clear that family needs to be the focus in life above all else. This pandemic may have stopped many things but it has not stopped Genasci Dairy cows. Herd checks continue to be every Monday and it truly is the highlight of my week. I work with amazing staff here at the dairy, Paul, Rudy, Miguel, Willy, Augustine, Marcos, Armando, Noel, Daisy (the dog who pushes cows) - all the milkers - it is an amazing crew. Our services per conception is 2.55, our average days at first breeding is 73 DIM with a calving interval of 13.1 and a pregnancy rate of 23.4% (DHI). The Average age at first calving is an amazing 23.5 months, with very few problems. The heifers are big and beautiful, the maternity crew and the fresh cow programs are great. Milk production currently sits at 95.3 lbs, and 305 ME is 32,385 for milk, 1263 fat and 943 protein with an average DIM sitting at 155 days. The average SCC is currently 130,000 but is rarely more than 160,000. Fresh cows, dry cows, fresh heifers and mastitis cows are milk quality tested and treatment protocols are in place for everything from mastitis. fresh cows, sick cows, lame cows, calving protocols and euthanasia protocols. The herd has a complete vaccination program which includes BRSV, BVD. Pl3, leptospirosis, clostridium, e.coli, rota and coronavirus and salmonella. I thank God for an additional 5 years working with this fine crew of people and even though I will no longer be the vet at Genasci Dairy. the friendships and camaraderie will continue for a lifetime. No doubt we will cross paths at future cattle sales. shows and events. Cheers to making it through a pandemic of epic proportions with the greatest group of cattle people and friends that I know. I hope and pray for health, love and prosperity for every single one of the fine friends I have gotten the chance to meet and know at this dairy. Dr. Lori Lenihan Lander Veterinary Clinic, Inc.
