ABOUT DAC

Genevieve Favorito is the Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Dance Academy Cambodia (Former Russian Ballet Cambodia). She is an experienced and passionate dancer coming from the Philippines, and accredited member and teacher of the Russian Ballet Society United Kingdom. After moving to Cambodia, she started together with Devi Vanhon Russian Ballet Cambodia. She's also the coach and choreographer of the Competition Team that represented Cambodia and won places at the ATOD International Dance Competition in Bangkok, Thailand in February 2017. Devi Vanhon is the Principal and Co-Founder of Dance Academy Cambodia (Former Russian Ballet Cambodia). She is a Khmer-Swiss coming from a family of royals and politicians, being the granddaughter of HRH Princess Norodom Thiek and the great-grandniece of former Cambodian Prime Minister Chau Sen Cocsal Chhum. Devi is passionate dancer accredited as a member and teacher of the Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD). Before starting with Genevieve Favorito at Russian Ballet Cambodia, she was a founding member of Central School of Ballet Phnom Penh. Sundee Viùas, External Relation and Co-Founder is the former owner of STEPS Dance and Fitness Studio in the Philippines, a place combining different dance styles and fitness programs, to target not only the social but also the workout scene. Johannes Rohrer the Business Development and partner of Dance Academy Cambodia supported us since the beginning of 2017. Working in Cambodia for more than 2 years now, he is doing a great job in bringing solutions to the academy and helping us to move further. The achievements of Dance Academy Cambodia during its first 18 months speak for themselves: Dance Academy Cambodia and its students performed at a factory employing over 1,000 workers and supplying ballet shoes to Bloch Ltd, the world’s premier dance shoe maker. The dancers helped with product testing and quality control by giving comments and suggestions for the improvement of their products.

ABOUT DAC

On the 11th of December 2016, Dance Academy Cambodia held their very first concert at the International School of Phnom Penh (ISPP) Black Box Theatre, showcasing a variety of dance styles and dance pieces that the student took part in and can learn. Also, they performed the dance pieces they compete to the ATOD International Dance Competition. Representing Cambodia at the ATOD International Dance Competition in Bangkok in 2017, the students won the 2nd place and top on their categories, competing with more than 900 dancers, 50 schools from over 25 countries. On the 30th of May 2017, Dance Academy Cambodia held their second event, the “Dance of the Elements”, a combination of dance, film and fashion. In the beautiful facilities of Raintree Convention Center, the afternoon and early evening was filled with two sessions of dance and fashion. The students of Dance Academy Cambodia not only danced, but also modeled in their selfmade dresses and dresses by fashion designer Janeth De Elegante. With Sundee Viñas joining the company in June 2017, Dance Academy Cambodia expanded. Composed of the 3 before said organisations, Russian Ballet Cambodia, Steps Fitness and Wellness and Dance Social Cambodia, Dance Academy Cambodia now boasts nearly 100 students and over 40 classes per week. In November 2017, Dance Academy Cambodia hit the big stage for a third time with a huge concert that included all the academy’s dancers. The event attracted Cambodian royalty and many VIPs. Returning to the second edition of the ATOD International Dance Competition in Bangkok in February 2018, Dance Academy Cambodia students once again swept up awards and trophies. From here onwards, nothing stands in the way of success and Dance Academy Cambodia is ready to grow even further.


OUR SCHOOL Dance Academy Cambodia is a professional dance school made up of three distinct organisations: Russian Ballet Cambodia - ensuring quality dance and particularly ballet education through continued accreditation and review from Russian Ballet Society UK Steps Dance Fitness & Wellness - providing accredited fitness instructors Dance Social Cambodia - experienced and well-respected founders of social dance instruction in Cambodia Dance Academy Cambodia has two modern and beautiful studios in Phnom Penh were dance classes are held: one in BKK1 and one in Toul Kork. Both studios are fully equipped with shock-absorbing wooden floors, tall mirrors, ballet barres, air-conditioning, and powerful sound systems. In addition, additio Dance Academy Cambodia offers tailor-made dance programmes for schools and educational institutions to help enrich their extra-curricular offerings. The school also has an outreach programme that ensures that the benefits of dance reach children in less priviledged parts of our community by providing low-cost programmes and workshops.

OUR VISION Our aim is to grow a new generation of strong, technical, and versatile dancers by providing the best possible dance training and opportunities to perform to people in Phnom Penh. In order to create strong dancers, dancer a major focus of our school is classical ballet. The training we provide is the Legat System of classical ballet instruction in the Russian Style, which is a free flowing style with a strong basic technique, logical and constructive in execution and developing in the student a performance quality through the ever varied enchainements. Dance Academy Cambodia offers students the possibility to take yearly accredited examinations.


OUR FACULTY TEAM Genevieve Favorito MRBSoc (P/T)

Genevieve started ballet at the age of 8. She trained at Ballet Philippines on a scholarship at 15, and went on pursue a BFA in Dance at De La Salle College of St Benilde, also on a scholarship. She then trained in Hip Hop with G-Force Dance Management. She moved to Thailand to complete her two-year teachers’ training at Russian Ballet Thailand, upon which she received her accreditation from and membership of the Russian Ballet Society UK. As the only RBSoc accredited teacher in Cambodia, she now offers and maintains the Legat syllabus at the school. Genevieve is the lead classical ballet instructor at DAC. She teaches all the upper levels. She also teaches modern jazz and lyrical contemporary dance. In addition she coaches all dancers preparing for major competitions.

Devi Vanhon Devi started dancing at 15 and quickly developed a passion for the A.A.T.O.D disciplinary art of ballet. She trained for four years at Chiang Mai Ballet in Thailand before her move to a new location put a halt to her intensive dance education. In 2011 she returned to dance full-time and the following year opened Central School of Ballet Phnom Penh, which she co-owned and co-ran until 2015. In 2016 Devi completed her teacher training with the Australian Teachers Of Dancing Ltd. (ATOD) and obtained her Associate Teacher Diploma in February 2017. She is also a certified Progressing Ballet Technique® instructor. Devi teaches classical ballet to children at the introductory and primary levels, as well as character dance and beginning jazz dance. In addition, she teaches classical ballet classes and dance conditioning for adults.

JULIE HéDON Julie has been dancing all her life, learning from great Italian and French teachers such as: Angelo Monaco, Bruno VandeIIi, Michael Cassan and Vincent Ansart. .In 2013 she joined Cie Vie & Danse - a small dance company in Lyon. Since August 2016, she has been teaching contemporary dance to teens and adults with passion, using all the experience she had, focusing on technique, and enjoying each movement.


OUR FACULTY TEAM JILL CLEMENT French-Japanese dancer Jill Clement trained for many years in hip hop and classical ballet in both France and Japan. She recently moved to Phnom Penh and joined the DAC faculty late 2017. She’s been teaching hip hop to adults for the past semester.

Aldrin started dancing Salsa and Bachata in Phnom Penh in 2014. Since then, he has become one of the most recognizable faces in the Phnom Penh Salsa scene. Together with Ayumi he started Dance Social Cambodia. He too has been teaching salsa at DAC since 2016.

Ayumi Matsuura Japanese born and bred Ayumi trained in African Dance in Tokyo, but it was in Cambodia that she got introduced to salsa. Soon she started to attend salsa festivals in Asia and Africa and go to social dance events every city she visits. In 2016, she had her first performance at the International Latin Dance festival in Ho Chi Min City, as a member of the team with the renowned Garry Portugal from New York. To share her passion and her skills acquired through attending many workshops with world-class salsa dancers, she launched
