One of the biggest powerplants in Europe, built from 1980 to 1984 and property of ENEL s.p.a., can provide 8% of the national energy demand. It was powered with diesel until 1995, then with the petroleum derivate ‘orimulsion’. The fuel might be soon converted to ‘white carbon’, while a recently proposed nuclear conversion plan was abandoned after the italian referendum against nuclear power. The high chimney is visible from all over the Delta.
